She went inside, sat on the bed, and opened the bedside table, which contained photos she had collected since childhood.
She casually flipped through the photos, and Lan's father, sitting next to her, pointed to a particular photo with great interest, recounting the interesting stories from that time.
Linghu Lan tried hard to recall, but she found that she had forgotten a lot of things that happened when she was a child. It seems that having too many memories is not a good thing, because you forget them quickly.
The two were enjoying themselves when Lan's mother called them to go eat. It was Saturday, and everyone was resting at home.
On the table were steaming hot buns, steamed bread, millet porridge, congee, corn, sweet potatoes, and a plate of vegetables.
Lan's mother wiped her hands on her apron and said, "Why didn't you tell me beforehand? If you had, I would have prepared the dishes. Now I can only make this much in a hurry. Just make do with this for now. I'll go out and buy some meat and vegetables later. What would you like to eat?"
Linghu Lan took a sip of the millet porridge her mother had lovingly prepared, and felt completely at ease. "Mom, I'll go grocery shopping with you later. I'll eat whatever you cook; everything Mom makes is delicious."
Lan's mother smiled and then tears welled up in her eyes again. "It's been so long since we last met, and you've become so eloquent. In a little while, we'll steam rice, and I'll cook all my signature dishes for you. These past two years, while you were away, I've learned so many new recipes, just so I could cook them for you. How's work at your company? What do you mainly do for people?"
Linghu Lan paused in her porridge. This was a question her parents would ask every year when she went home. For others, it might not be difficult to answer, but for her, it was an epicly difficult question.
"Mom, the job is going very well. The job content needs to be kept confidential, but it's a great job. The environment there is very nice. I live in a dormitory, and I don't have to worry about food, clothing, or transportation. There are people to take care of me. I don't even have to wash my own clothes. I just need to work hard. You can see that from me."
Lan's mother carefully examined Linghu Lan's face. "You've lost weight! Is the food bad over there?"
Linghu Lan touched her face. It seemed that three months of recovery was still too short a time. However, she was much better than when she first woke up. Back then, she looked more like a telephone pole, which might have been blown over by the wind.
After three months of being kept in a state of pampered living, my face has gotten fatter and fatter, but now I'm at least presentable. "I don't like being too fat. The food is pretty good, but it's not as delicious as my mom's cooking."
Lan's mother was overjoyed at the praise. "Then eat more. How long can you stay at home this time? Can you stay a little longer?"
“I have a two-month vacation, and I won’t go back until after the Lunar New Year. I can spend a lot of time with you all. Also, we won’t need to be completely closed off anymore, so I should be able to come home anytime I want.”
"That's great!" Lan's parents were finally relieved, and their faces beamed with smiles, making them look much younger.
After finishing the meal.
Lan's mother told Linghu Lan to rest and insisted that she not wash the dishes, but sit on the sofa and watch TV.
Lan's father went to the side to discuss taking leave with his boss. Linghu Lan looked at her parents who were circling around her and felt that she had finally found her roots. The dazed and uncertain feeling had finally dissipated.
She took a moment to send Mo Tang a message: "I'm back, everything is fine, don't worry!"
Mo Tang replied quickly: "Linghu Lan, do you dare to say a few more words, like 'I miss you'?"
Linghu Lan couldn't help but laugh. "I wouldn't dare! I'm afraid of you!"
Mo Tang: "..."
