A unique, cool scent permeated the room.
The girl laughed and said, "It's cool, isn't it? That's one of the good things about this house; it's not hot at all. The main problem is that I live in such a big house all by myself, and the rent is a bit expensive. I'd like to find someone to share the cost with. May I ask what you do for a living?"
"I... write articles for others at home."
"Oh, I see! So you don't need to go to work?"
"No need, may I just take a look around? Which room do you need to share?" Linghu Lan got straight to the point.
“Oh! This one!” The girl pointed with her slender finger to one of the smaller rooms, which had been set up as a study.
Linghu Lan glanced around and saw that the furniture and decorations inside did not appear to have been moved, indicating that Ku Xi had previously used this room as an office.
The girl smiled and said, "If you want to rent, I'll clear out this place and move it to my room. There's a small bed here, which should be enough for one person. You can stay in the small room, and I'll stay in the big room. I'll pay the majority of the rent, and you can pay the minority."
"Okay, thank you!" Linghu Lan smiled. She then looked around the living room and kitchen, reached out and touched a glittering lamppost on the living room wall, and exclaimed, "The lamp is so beautiful."
When she took her hand down, a sparkling, rhinestone-like object from the top of the lamppost fell into her hand.
The girl stared wide-eyed at the rhinestone in her hand.
Linghu Lan hurriedly said, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect to break it. I apologize, I will compensate you no matter how much it costs."
"Ahhhhh!" The girl was stunned for a moment before she exclaimed, "This lamp has always been quite sturdy, how come it broke as soon as you touched it?"
Linghu Lan rubbed her forehead: "Maybe I used too much force."
The girl took the crystal from Linghu Lan's hand. The crystal was broken in two and could not be glued back together.
This was the first time she had dealt with something like this, and for a moment she didn't know what to do.
She hesitated, saying, "This belongs to the landlord, so it might not be very sturdy. If it were my own, I wouldn't care if it broke, but this belongs to someone else, so I..."
"It's my fault. Is a thousand dollars enough for you?"
One thousand dollars?
The girl was stunned. This was a much higher amount than she had imagined. She had been a little flustered and embarrassed, but she felt relieved when Linghu Lan offered compensation. However, she had only thought that she would ask for a maximum of five hundred yuan. She never expected that the other party would ask for a thousand yuan right away. How could they be so generous?!
She looked Linghu Lan up and down again, realizing she must have misjudged her earlier.
That well-tailored long dress, made of silk, looked expensive. The bag she was carrying looked familiar; it was a celebrity-endorsed style. Although the shoes she was wearing looked ordinary, they were this year's most popular fisherman style.
In short, this girl truly embodies what understated luxury means.
"You're not here to rent a place, are you?"
Linghu Lan smiled. "You saw through me. I'm sorry. I was just curious when you called out, so I came in to take a look. I hope I didn't interrupt your business."
"Oh!!! Is that so! Hahahaha!" The girl laughed too. "It's okay, I mistook you for someone else. It's so late, it seems the girl I was supposed to meet to view the apartment won't be coming. Sigh, I had to rush all this way!"
