"Are you really going to retire?"
"right!"
Jingxing answered seriously. He had lost count of how many people had asked him this question, and he answered each one earnestly. The closer they got to parting, the more precious the camaraderie he felt.
Jingxing pushed open the door, and a heroic man was sitting behind the desk, waiting for him. This was Commander Huo, the highest-ranking officer of his unit.
"Report!" Jing Xing straightened his back and gave a military salute.
"Sit down!" Commander Huo was getting on in years, and the years had diminished his youthful vigor, but added peace and wisdom to his life.
"yes!"
"You're being discharged from the military? What's the reason?"
"I have children at home who need support!"
"As far as I know, you and Colonel Ling do not have any children."
Jing Xing paused, a pang of sorrow crossing his heart. "Reporting to the Commander, this is my sister's child. His parents are deceased, and I am raising him now."
"..." The commander was silent for a long time. "Raising children is good, but is it necessary to retire? There are many people in our army who have not retired and are taking good care of their children."
“Commander! That’s different.” Jing Xing looked at Commander Huo with firm eyes. “If it were my own child, I would be more relaxed and wouldn’t feel particularly uncomfortable. But that was my sister’s child. I have to be more careful to be worthy of her.”
"..." Commander Huo lit a cigarette and pondered quietly for a while. "I've heard about your deeds. I just want to ask you one question: Do you not regret it?"
No regrets!
"Once the arrow is released, there's no turning back. There are only soldiers who leave the army, never those who return. It's easy for me to let you go, but once you leave, you'll never have the chance to come back."
"Report! I have no regrets!" Jing Xing's voice was loud and clear, indicating that he had already made up his mind.
Commander Huo stared at him for a long while, then said softly, "Go back! I'll think about it some more!"
"yes!"
Jingxing turned and left the office.
He went outside and looked up at the blue sky and white clouds. In his eyes, the blue sky and white clouds in the military base were different from those outside. They had a more rigorous and solemn beauty.
Now, it's almost time to say goodbye. I never imagined that my more than ten years of military service would end because of a crying baby.
But all of this happened just like that. Life is unpredictable and ever-changing; that is the true meaning of life.
In the office.
Commander Huo pondered for a moment, the blue smoke making the room even more silent. He made a phone call, and after a few beeps, the call connected.
Commander Huo said in a deep voice, "Old Wei, Jingxing is a military talent. He could have been my successor, but you delayed his career."
Wei Meng's father was silent for a while, then slowly said, "I never thought he would go to this extent. I owe you a favor."
"It's good that you know. I don't need you to owe me any favors. Take care of yourself!" Commander Huo added as he hung up the phone. "My condolences!"
Commander Huo and Wei Meng's father were old friends, and he was not unaware that Jing Xing had adopted Wei Jing.
Logically speaking, he could understand Jingxing.
However, from the perspective of valuing talent, he did not want Jingxing to leave the army. Soldiers can be trained in many ways, but generals require military talent.
Jingxing had such talent, and so did his lover Lingyun.
What a pity.
It's a real shame that their military careers were cut short like this.
Commander Huo felt a pang of regret.
Finally, I signed the discharge application form.
Jingxing and Linghulan's military careers have officially come to an end.
