Han Lingxi belatedly realized that Gu Jingchen was touching her hair, and looked at Gu Jingchen with what she thought was a fierce expression.
"Don't move, you've messed up my hair."
"It's okay, it looks good no matter what."
Gu Jingchen suppressed a laugh and rubbed it a couple more times.
Looking at Gu Jingchen, who was smiling like a big boy, Han Lingxi felt that Gu Jingchen was a little different from what she had imagined.
Han Lingxi stayed in the hospital for three more days of observation. Gu Jingchen would bring different food over every day, but he always avoided Han's parents. Han's parents still complained about Gu Jingchen.
"Ah Chen, you're acting like a thief."
Gu Jingchen sneaked into the ward once again, and Han Lingxi covered her mouth, her eyes narrowing into slits as she laughed.
Han Lingxi took Gu Jingchen's kindness for granted, knowing that Gu Jingchen was responsible for the original owner's car accident.
Han Lingxi always felt that Gu Jingchen was very familiar. This familiarity was not because of the original owner's memories, but because of Han Lingxi's own feelings. It made her want to get close to Gu Jingchen, as if they had known each other before. This "before" did not refer to the original owner, but to herself.
"Isn't that being a thief, stealing someone's precious daughter?"
Gu Jingchen skillfully took out the food and placed it on the table for Han Lingxi.
"Then you'll have to hide from my parents forever."
"Of course not, but I can't be kicked out now. How can I miss something as blissful as watching you eat?"
Gu Jingchen looked intently at Han Lingxi, who was somewhat startled by his gaze. She quickly lowered her head to eat to cover it up, which made Gu Jingchen chuckle.
Han Lingxi was discharged from the hospital soon. Her parents came to pick her up. As soon as they came downstairs, they saw Gu Jingchen leaning against the car waiting for them. When Gu Jingchen saw them, he immediately put on a big smile.
"Uncle Han, Aunt Han, let me take you home."
If Shengyang's employees saw their usually expressionless president smiling like this, they would definitely suspect that the president had been replaced.
"No need for Mr. Gu to come all this way." Mrs. Han glanced at Gu Jingchen.
Han Lingxi wanted to say something, but felt that nothing she said would be appropriate, so she remained silent.
Han's father sighed, nodded to Gu Jingchen, and then got into his car.
As the car started, Han Lingxi looked back and saw Gu Jingchen still standing in front of the car, gazing in the direction they had left, which made Han Lingxi feel inexplicably sad.
Han Lingxi returned home, took a shower, and then collapsed onto the soft bed, rolling around a couple of times. It felt so good.
"Ding-dong."
Her phone rang, and Han Lingxi reached for it on the bedside table.
"Has my darling Xi'er arrived home yet?"
It was a text message from Gu Jingchen. Upon seeing the message, Han Lingxi recalled how to reply to text messages and sent a reply to Gu Jingchen.
"I'm home."
"Ding-dong." Gu Jingchen's text message arrived quickly.
"It was a mistake of mine as a boyfriend not to personally escort my princess home. To make up for my mistake, I'll take you out tomorrow. I wonder if I have the honor of inviting my princess?"
"Then this princess will reluctantly agree, my prince."
Upon receiving the text message, Han Lingxi rolled around on the bed a couple more times while holding her phone. Without thinking, she agreed. She had a mission to complete; the system had helped her leave the spacetime rift, and it was only right that she repay the system by completing the mission. She would finish it well. As for her own feelings for Gu Jingchen, Han Lingxi hadn't thought about it yet. "Where are we going? Don't you have work tomorrow?"
"Ding-dong."
"How could work be more important than my Xi'er? Keep the destination a secret, I won't let you down."
This was nothing like something a workaholic like Gu Jingchen would say; Han Lingxi was full of anticipation for tomorrow.
"I'm going to sleep now, goodnight."
Goodnight, my darling Xi'er.
