Chapter 337: So Mysterious

There were four beautiful young maidens with voluptuous figures standing at the front and back of the palanquin. The two maidens standing behind made lovely music with a zither and a flute, while the other two maidens walked ahead and scattered flower petals in front of the palanquin. As the palanquin was led forward, the ground was covered in a layer of petals of vibrant colors as a faint, delicate fragrance from the flowers wafted by.

It was certainly an extravagant display, with the melodious music and scattering of flower petals. Furthermore, there were four handsome, elegant young men lifting the palanquin beside the young maidens. It was exactly like the Golden Boy and Jade Girl from the legends.

However, no matter how refined or cultured you appeared to be, you were still a silly old man. First the music, then the scattering of flower petals, and even the delicate fragrance from the palanquin - wasn’t that just cringey? View the correct content at fre.ewe(bn)ovel.c om

"Who is the person giving such a display? Even if he or she is a prince or princess from another country on an excursion, they would not have such an impressive procession, right?" One of the guests exclaimed in awe.

"Master, there is a teahouse here. Would you like to take a rest?" One of the young maidens turned to ask the person seated inside the palanquin. Her voice was crisp and pleasing to the ears. The person in the palanquin did not make any sound, but it seemed like the young maiden had received an order, as she nodded to motion for them to stop there.

"Were you the one who spoke just now?" The old man sitting in the palanquin asked indifferently.

"If it really was a prince or a princess, there would be guards to protect them. It’s more likely that it is a young miss of an aristocratic family," another young man guessed.

Ling Chuxi was astonished and curious at the same time. She wanted to see the person seated inside, but the rippling movement of the silk veil only allowed a faint silhouette to be seen. fr\(e)ew(e)b.(n)o (v)(e)l.com

Amidst their laughter, the palanquin approached and a faint fragrance like orchids and musk wafted out.

"So what if it was me?" The man sneered. These men were used to roaming the country, and they had a certain toughness about them. Besides that, he also possessed the cultivation of Battle Qi Level-5, and could also be considered a good opponent amongst the others.

The other guests also paused and stared curiously at the palanquin, but if even Ling Chuxi could not get a clear view, they were no better.

The young men stopped and put down the palanquin. One of the young maidens paved the ground with petals, and then only did she draw the silk veil in front of the palanquin.

The laughter immediately stopped, and all eyes locked on the inside of the palanquin. Even Ling Chuxi was stunned. Everyone had thought that that if it wasn’t a beautiful young miss of an aristocratic family, it might be a charming, flirtatious young man in the palanquin. Who knew that it would actually be an old man with a head full of silver hair? However, he had a healthy complexion and the airs of someone who was cultured and refined.

"If it were me, I would gladly accept her even if she was a pig, if it meant I could climb the social ladder. Hahaha!" Another person laughed out loud.

"Don’t say that. Don’t be fooled by the extravagant display though, we have yet to see her appearance. Would she even want a kept man like you?" His friend said jokingly.

"Cheh, turns out it was just a silly old man." The man who had spoken earlier was both surprised and disappointed, and scornfully turned his head away. If it were a real pig inside the palanquin, it wouldn’t be as disappointing as it was now.

"How is it possible for a miss from an aristocratic family to notice someone like me?" The young man answered shyly and blushed, embarrassed by the comment.

"You should seize this opportunity to climb the social ladder and get to know that young miss then. You won’t need to roam all over the country and endure hardships with us anymore, and we can even share your good fortune," one of his companions teased.

The man had just finished his sentence when the old man’s silhouette flew out of the palanquin with great speed like a frightened swan.
