Chapter 11 Buying an Old House

Tang Ping rolled his eyes and said, "No, Officer An, I'm here to bring some people. Look, they are Gao Qiqiang's younger brother and sister. It's the New Year, you see..."

"Gao Qiqiang, I'm also handling this case. How about I go and check on things for you?"

An Xin glanced at the anxious Gao Qisheng and his sister, seemingly feeling a little sorry for them, and nodded before heading to the interrogation room.

To put it bluntly, this fight was a one-sided beating of Gao Qiqiang. He was the one who suffered a loss, but there was nothing he could do because he had come to the fight on his own initiative.

Tang Xiaolong and Tang Xiaolong are both seasoned veterans. They insisted that Gao Qiqiang had come to their door to rob them and that they were acting in self-defense. Although An Xin sympathized with Gao Qiqiang, procedurally, Gao Qiqiang should at least be charged with disturbing the peace.

In serious cases, it could even lead to imprisonment.

After waiting in the lobby for a while, An Xin came over and said, "You've been detained for three days. You can go home now."

"Officer, may I see my brother?" Gao Qisheng asked.

An Xin shook her head: "That's definitely not allowed, it doesn't comply with the regulations."

Gao Qilan asked, "Could you help us get the dumplings for my brother?"

An Xin couldn't help but laugh: "That won't work either. Let's go back. It's not a big deal for him. He'll be released in a few days."

Gao Qilan stubbornly replied, "No, we're going to wait for my brother here. We eat dumplings and watch the Spring Festival Gala together every year."

An Xin had no choice but to let them be. Before leaving, she casually turned up the volume of the TV in the living room.

Gao Qisheng said, "Brother Ping, it's the New Year, and we're really troubling you. You should go back first; we'll wait here."

Tang Ping laughed and said, "Forget it, I'll go with you. Otherwise, you won't have a ride home tomorrow."

"Thank you, Brother Ping."

2000 was the year of the millennium and also the year of the dragon, China's zodiac year. This year also saw the reform of the Spring Festival Gala, with many creative programs.

Gao Qisheng and Gao Qilan watched the Spring Festival Gala with great interest. After the Gala ended, both siblings fell asleep, with Gao Qilan leaning on Tang Ping's shoulder.

To make her more comfortable, Tang Ping let her sleep on his lap and borrowed a blanket from An Xin to cover her with.

It wasn't until dawn that Gao Qisheng and Gao Qilan were willing to go back. Tang Ping took them home and then went to the internet cafe.

Li Qiang and his team were still fighting hard. Tang Ping smiled slightly, and he seemed to see his former self reflected in them.

Since none of the shops were open on the first day of the Lunar New Year, Tang Ping could only order a bucket of instant noodles for each of them, then gave them a few words of advice and told them to go home and sleep early before leaving the internet cafe.

This illegal internet cafe is filthy and chaotic, with even worse service, yet it's always packed, even with people booking overnight sessions.

The surrounding area is full of people from the old factory street, so there's no shortage of business.

Tang Ping became even more determined to open an internet cafe.

When I got home, my aunt and elderly mother were already up and making breakfast.

"Aping, Uncle Qi on the third floor wants to sell his house for 50,000 yuan. What do you think?" the old mother suddenly asked.

"That's great, definitely worth the price." Tang Ping grabbed an apple, took a bite, and then asked curiously, "By the way, is Uncle Qi moving away?"

"Yes, his son wants to take him to live abroad. Yesterday was his last Lunar New Year's Eve, and he's leaving this afternoon. If you think it's okay, we can buy it, tidy it up a bit, and then renovate it when you get married."

"We can talk about the wedding later, we need to buy a house first. Mom, you've really helped me a lot."

Tang Ping smiled.

He had long wanted to buy a few old houses in the old factory street, as they would be worth a huge sum of money when they were demolished and redeveloped, but he was afraid that his elderly mother would not agree.

Aunt Tang Shuyun said somewhat apologetically, "Aping, I'm sorry to trouble you. I feel bad that you have to buy another house after I come to stay with you. I still have some savings, and I'll help you out a bit."

Tang Ping immediately became unhappy and said with a stern face, "Aunt, what are you saying? How could I take your money? You're insulting me! You're my aunt, we're family. I'd be happy if you stayed here long-term, let alone for a while. As for buying a house, I was planning to buy one anyway."

Upon hearing this, the old mother immediately smiled and said, "See? I told you A-Ping wouldn't agree. Shu-Yun, you shouldn't insist. You've doted on this child since he was little, so it wasn't for nothing."

“Aping is filial and a good child,” Aunt Tang Shuyun said, her eyes also red.

Uncle Qi is in his sixties. His son has been doing business abroad, and he lives alone. Now that he is older, it is more convenient for him.

My son is earning money now, and I've been wanting to bring him over to enjoy a comfortable life for a long time. This time, I finally managed to convince him to come.

Uncle Qi's son is named Zhu Rui, and he is a capable man.

After meeting and talking, Tang Ping realized that this person had read a lot and was truly insightful.

They didn't care about the price at all. Because they needed to complete the property transfer procedures, the two chatted a lot along the way, and Tang Ping benefited greatly from the conversation.

Zhu Rui sighed and said, "China's development is still too slow, at least several decades behind other countries. But thankfully, there have been signs of a resurgence in the last two years. I hope our motherland will continue to develop and prosper. Only when our motherland is strong can we overseas Chinese have confidence."

"It definitely will. Believe me, in less than twenty years, our motherland will take a giant leap forward."

Tang Ping smiled.

The two hit it off immediately and chatted very congenially. Zhu Rui was surprised that Tang Ping, despite not having a high level of education, had a very insightful analysis of the future situation, which impressed him greatly.

Before parting, Zhu Rui left an email address for future contact.

Tang Ping was naturally happy to make friends with her.

Although the old house left by Uncle Qi was old, it was clean and tidy, with two bedrooms and a living room, and the area was not small. After tidying up a bit, Tang Ping moved in directly.

Another 50,000 yuan has been spent, and now the funds available for opening an internet cafe are dwindling.

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, we started visiting relatives.

However, Tang Ping's father's relatives had fallen out years ago and rarely contact each other anymore, while his mother's relatives were few in number and lived far away, so they could only keep in touch by phone.

With a rare moment of free time, Tang Ping began planning to open his own internet cafe.

Opening an internet cafe is not like opening a music and video store. First, you need to find a good location, and then you need to buy computers. In addition, you need to recruit good staff for the internet cafe; they must be reliable people.

That evening, Zhao Wei came looking for him.

He spends most of his time driving trucks and doesn't even have time to rest during the Spring Festival. Since he finally has a day off today, he insists on inviting Tang Ping to his home for dinner.

Tang Ping had already given the money for the turtle to Zhao Wei's wife.

"Come, come, Tang Ping, please sit down. Thank you so much for the turtle. Let's have a good drink together today!"

Zhao Wei took a bottle of liquor and was about to open it.

Tang Ping quickly stopped him, saying, "I don't drink alcohol, I'll just have water. Zhao Wei, don't be so polite, we've all grown up together, this is nothing."
