Chapter 122 Cannon Fodder with Replaced Memories 04

Ji Wei and Jiang Fei settled down in this cramped tin shack.

Ji Wei was naturally responsible for all three meals a day.

His cooking skills were terrible, but he had a brilliant mind. After identifying and correcting his mistakes, the food he made the next day was much better.

Jiang Fei would still casually comment, "Disgusting."

Then eat it all up.

Ji Wei was already able to calmly face her sharp tongue, and showed no unusual reaction upon hearing her words.

Occasionally, Ji Wei would think back to those days.

From childhood to adulthood, he has always lived in an environment of extreme convenience and luxury brought about by technology and money. He eats food carefully prepared by nutritionists, wears custom-made clothing made of expensive materials, and even exercises on the artificial lawn on the rooftop.

His wealth, genius mind, and photographic memory kept him a privileged and high-ranking figure.

Even when he reached a certain age, he had a beautiful and gentle fiancée whom everyone envied.

His life plan was originally almost perfect.

He never expected, or rather, he never imagined, that such a dark and damp slum existed in the corner of a bustling metropolis.

Having lost everything and become blind, he was still living in such an environment.

They wore the cheapest clothes, used cheap items, and ate only what was needed to fill their stomachs.

In fact, he knew everything about this tin shack.

He learned that the distance from the sofa to the door was twelve steps, to the kitchen was nine steps, to the bathroom was seven steps, and to the old-fashioned television was six steps.

He never went into the cubicle.

That's Jiang Fei's bedroom.

Even though she has Ranran's memories, she is still not Ranran.

Ranran is his fiancée, the one he is a perfect match for, and the one he wants to spend his life with.

Everything here was unfamiliar and unbearable for him in the past.

He had never been in such an environment before, much less had he met... someone like Jiang Fei.

Every day, besides preparing three meals a day, Ji Wei's main task is to wait for Jiang Fei to return from outside so he can apply medicine to his eyes.

Unlike the calluses on her palms, her fingertips were soft and slightly cool.

He didn't know where Jiang Fei got the money to buy those expensive medicines, but she was indeed able to bring them back every day.

But there are some things he cannot ask.

Even if he asked, he is now unable to repay the debt.

But day after day, there was still no sign of improvement in his eyes.

Ji Wei told herself countless times to wait a little longer, but she could not suppress the anxiety in her heart.

That day, Ji Wei waited in the house as usual for Jiang Fei to return with the medicine.

The television next to me was broadcasting the news with a crackling sound.

Now that he can't see and the house is empty, he has to turn on that outdated television and listen to the sound to keep his mind from wandering.

Ji Wei was thinking about revenge when the female announcer's voice, crackling with static, came from the television, making his fingertips tremble.

"...A spokesperson for the Gu Group stated that the group's president, Gu Xi, and Lin Ran, the daughter of the Lin family, have recently become secretly engaged. The official wedding date has been announced and is set for 100 days from now. It is understood that Lin Ran was previously engaged to Ji Wei, the only son of the Ji family..."

The female announcer's voice was devoid of any emotion, yet it easily stirred up a huge wave in Ji Wei's heart.

Ranran is engaged.

His fiancée got engaged to another man.

Gu Xi.

Ji Wei sat on the sofa, his face pale, his fists clenched tightly. He felt ashamed and angry. His fiancée was now engaged to another man.

Ji Wei's hand trembled slightly, but after only a few seconds, his expression suddenly turned deathly still, and he let go of his hand in despair.

What right does he have to be unhappy?

Now, it's still unknown whether he can even regain his eyesight. He's just a helpless blind man. What does he have to compete with Gu Xi?

A useless person.

Do you still think you're the chosen one of heaven?

The television was still on.

Ji Wei sat on the sofa in a daze, her eyes staring straight ahead, her dark pupils unfocused.

The sky outside gradually darkened.

The tin-roofed house was completely dark.

Ji Wei remained frozen in place.

After an unknown amount of time, the door was pushed open from the outside, and Jiang Fei's voice rang out, filled with more surprise than usual: "I'm back, and I have good news..."

Jiang Fei's voice stopped abruptly when she saw the figure sitting on the sofa. She then raised her eyebrows, her tone revealing concern rather than her usual casualness: "What's wrong?"

Ji Wei suddenly snapped back to reality, turned her head towards the direction of the sound, then thought of something else and stood up: "Excuse me, I'll go prepare dinner."

After saying that, he walked straight to the kitchen.

"What happened?" As she passed by Jiang Fei, she stepped forward and blocked his way.

Ji Wei paused slightly, walked around her and continued on, her voice turning colder: "It's nothing."

Jiang Fei turned to look at his back; a news report was being replayed on the television next to her.

Gu Xi and Lin Ran have secretly gotten engaged.

Jiang Fei chuckled.

No wonder he looked so upset that his beloved was about to marry someone else.

The room was already small, so Ji Wei naturally heard the television. Her face grew even paler, her lips pressed tightly together. In her anger and distraction, she forgot to grab the kitchen utensils and reached straight for the induction cooker on the stove.

"What are you doing!" a voice suddenly exclaimed from the side, filled with horror.

Before Ji Wei could react, his hand was suddenly grabbed and pulled, but the scorching flames still burned his fingers, causing a sharp pain in his fingertips.

However, immediately afterward, my fingertips were enveloped by a cool hand.

"Don't you feel pain?" Jiang Fei's voice came in a reproachful tone.

Ji Wei's fingertips paused slightly, his thoughts gradually pulling him out of his daze. He could clearly feel the thin calluses on her palm gently rubbing against him on the back of his hand.

His expression tightened slightly.

Ranran's hands had no calluses; none of the people he had ever met were as "rough" as Jiang Fei.

They were from two different worlds.

Ji Wei curled her fingers, trying to pull her hand away.

Before he could move, Jiang Fei suddenly lowered her head and gently blew cool air onto his fingers.

Her breath was very soft.

It carried the unique fragrance of this room.

Ji Wei's hand froze in Jiang Fei's palm, her expression still blank.

"Perfect timing, let's put some medicine on his eyes first." Jiang Fei thought for a moment, then took his hand and walked towards the sofa.

But before she could take a few steps, Ji Wei pulled her hand away from hers, stood still, pursed her lips, and stared blankly into some unknown corner.

"Ji Wei, what's wrong with you?" Jiang Fei looked at him in confusion.

Ji Wei clenched her fingers and then relaxed them, finally asking, "Is there really no cure?"

Jiang Fei frowned: "What?"

"Is there really no cure for my eyes?" Ji Wei asked again, her eyes dark. "Applying medicine is just to comfort me."

"Who told you that?"

"I will be blind forever..."

“No.” Jiang Fei interrupted him, her tone resolute.

Ji Wei stood still, her pupils twitching slightly in her lifeless eyes.

Jiang Fei walked up to him and said, "Ji Wei, I told you, I believe you. You should believe me this once too."

You'll be alright.

Ji Wei lowered her head. He couldn't see her, but he could hear the seriousness in her words.

Should I believe her...?

Finally, he slowly walked to the sofa and sat down.

Jiang Fei smiled and stood quietly in front of him, applying medicine to his eyes as always.

Ji Wei could feel the cool fingertips gently rubbing his eyelids. The woman's warm breath sprayed out softly, and her fingertips occasionally brushed against his eyelashes, causing a slight tickle.

An unprecedented level of intimacy.

Ji Wei lowered her eyes, her eyelashes trembling uneasily.

“Oh, right,” Jiang Fei suddenly said.

Ji Wei quickly snapped back to reality.

Jiang Fei smiled and withdrew her hand: "I'll take you somewhere tomorrow."

Ji Wei frowned, and almost instinctively said, "I'm not going."

In his current state, he would only become a laughing stock if he went out.

He was also afraid that someone would see him now, in this state of utter destitution, having fallen into "hell."

“I told you, I have good news.” Jiang Fei stroked his eyes with her fingers. “I’ve found a way to make you see.”
