Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Yan Jiayu stood at the door of the ward, took a deep breath and pushed the door open. He never thought that he would take the initiative to see Cheng Huaian, and under such circumstances.

Cheng Huaian was half leaning on the hospital bed, his face still a little pale, but the sharpness in his eyes had not diminished at all. He was reading a document, and when he saw Yan Jiayu come in, he just raised his eyes slightly, as if he had expected him to come.

"I heard you recovered well." Yan Jiayu stood three steps away from the bed with his hands in his trouser pockets.

Cheng Huaian closed the file and placed it on the bedside table: "Thank you for your trouble."

The air between the two seemed to freeze. Yan Jiayu glanced around the ward. It was extremely tidy. Apart from the necessary medical equipment, there were almost no personal belongings.

There was only a glass of water on the bedside table. A faint pink lip print was visible on the rim of the glass. His intuition told him that it was left by Rong Susu.

"If Cui Ying hadn't been arrested, I would almost suspect that all this was a trick you carefully planned." Yan Jiayu's voice was as cold as ice.

The corners of Cheng Huaian's mouth rose slightly, a very shallow arc, but it made Yan Jiayu's knuckles tighten unconsciously.

"I never joke about Rong Susu's safety." Cheng Huaian said in a steady voice, "It seems you don't agree with this."

Yan Jiayu took a step forward: "But you are willing to make her sad. If you hadn't disappointed her time and time again, why would she choose to leave?"

"It's not your place as an outsider to interfere in what's going on between us." Cheng Huaian's eyes swept across Yan Jiayu's tense jawline. "Besides, she's back now. After all these twists and turns, we're all back to square one."

"Origin?" Yan Jiayu keenly grasped the profound meaning of the word. "What do you mean?"

Cheng Huaian adjusted his sitting position, the IV tube swaying gently, "Your fiancée has arrived in Shanghai this afternoon. You can take the 6 o'clock flight and you can have dinner together."

Yan Jiayu's expression suddenly changed. He rushed forward and grabbed Cheng Huaian by the collar, "What did you do?"

His arm was so long that it had reached Yicheng.

The door of the ward opened and two bodyguards quickly entered, clamping Yan Jiayu's arms on the left and right.

Cheng Huaian raised his hand to signal them to leave, his eyes never leaving Yan Jiayu's face. His eyes were as calm as a deep pool that had been silent for a hundred years, without a trace of ripples.

"Tell her, that Wanwan account, and all the others to unfollow Rong Susu's account." Cheng Huaian's voice was low, but with unquestionable force. "Tell her not to mess with people she can't afford to mess with."

Yan Jiayu's pupils suddenly contracted, he stood up and straightened his wrinkled suit jacket.

"You think you can win like this?" His voice was filled with suppressed anger. "Using this method?"

Cheng Huaian slowly leaned back on the pillow, but this simple action made his brows frown almost imperceptibly, because Yan Jiayu's question was too stupid, and he hadn't dealt with stupid people for a long time.

"I'm not competing with you, Yan Jiayu," he said. "I'm protecting the one I love."

Yan Jiayu sneered, "You are already divorced."

"I think it won't be long before we get remarried." Cheng Huaian looked out the window, the afterglow of the setting sun gilding his profile. "Anything else? You still have some time to see Rong Susu before 6 o'clock."

Yan Jiayu suddenly noticed a faint mark on Cheng Huaian's left ring finger. It was left by wearing a ring for a long time, but he was not wearing it now.

"Just throw away your wedding rings. Feelings can't be mended just by saying so." Yan Jiayu sneered.

"If you throw it away, buy a new one. If you can't make up for it, start over." Cheng Huaian was calm as usual, not looking angry at all.

Cheng Huaian turned back, his eyes sharp as a knife, "Yan Jiayu, you can't even handle your own family affairs, why do you think you can be better than me?"

He picked up the water glass on the bedside table and gently stroked the lip print on the rim of the glass. The provocation was self-evident.

"Wan Ling is the granddaughter-in-law chosen by your grandfather himself. Wan Canglan and your family are old friends. I am your competitor. Will your family accept your competitor's ex-wife as the wife of the future leader? You are too stupid."

Yan Jiayu was silent for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice was a little tired: "I will take care of everything. We will not have any contact with them."

"Really? Do you really think that if your last name isn't Yan, people will still be so polite to you?" Cheng Huaian has always looked down upon this junior. He clearly took advantage of his family's reputation but denied that he had benefited from it. He was so hypocritical.

Yan Jiayu's eyes suddenly turned cold. "Are you threatening me? Don't forget that Cui Ying is your ex-girlfriend. You sent her to jail without mercy! What will Rong Susu think? Will she think you are too cruel? "

"Hahaha." Cheng Huaian actually laughed. It was the first time he discovered that his junior was not only stupid, but also quite interesting.

After laughing, she looked back at him calmly, "Cui Ying brought this upon herself. I won't let her frame Rong Susu again and again. She should bear the legal responsibility for things having come to this point. I certainly won't save her. As for you, Wan Ling has provoked Rong Susu several times. You know about this. Are you still thinking about our past relationship and not resolving it?"

Yan Jiayu's impeccable expression finally showed obvious cracks. Everything was under Cheng Huaian's control. He just shook his head slightly: "If you can't even provide the most basic protection, what qualifications do you have to stand by her side?"

A long silence fell in the ward. The two men stared at each other, a silent contest hanging in the air.

At this moment, Yan Jiayu realized how terrifying the person in front of him was, and finally took a step back. His eyes fell on Cheng Huaian's fingers, which had turned slightly white due to the force. Cheng Huaian had never relaxed his vigilance against him, even when he was lying weakly on the hospital bed.

"She deserves better," Yan Jiayu said.

Cheng Huaian nodded slightly: "I totally agree. So I will be the better one."

Yan Jiayu turned and walked towards the door, pausing when she grasped the door handle.

"Cheng Huaian," he said without looking back, "if you disappoint her again, I won't let you go."

Cheng Huaian stared at the closed door for a long moment before he slowly loosened his clenched fist. On his palm, four deep nail marks were slowly turning from white to red.

He picked up his phone and dialed a number.

"Remove all surveillance on the Yan family," he said into the microphone. "Also, keep a close eye on them tonight and report everything."

After hanging up the phone, he looked out the window at the night and whispered to himself: "This time, I won't give you any more chances."

The noise outside the ward was like a blunt knife, cutting through the tranquility that should have been on the VIP floor.

"My brother is in there! I want to see him!" The woman's voice was sharp, with undisguised anxiety and arrogance, penetrating the heavy door and reaching Cheng Huaian's ears without missing a word.

"Who do you think you are? How dare you stop me? Do you know who I am?"

It was He Shurong. Cheng Huaian closed his eyes, and a very shallow wrinkle appeared between his brows, revealing his impatience at the moment. He needed to rest instead of dealing with such meaningless noise.

Outside the door, the bodyguard's voice was calm and restrained, without any emotional fluctuations: "Mr. Cheng needs to rest and will not see any guests."

"Didn't someone go in just now? How could that man get in?" He Shurong's voice rose higher, filled with anger at being treated differently.

"That's what Mr. Cheng allowed."

"You mean, my brother won't let me in?!" He almost screamed this out, with an incredible arrogance.

Cheng Huaian slowly opened his eyes, his gaze filled with deep fatigue and annoyance. He raised his hand and pressed his brows, then turned towards the door and said in a low, yet clear, voice, "Let her in."

It would be better to win the battle quickly and deal with all these trivial troubles at once, so that he could concentrate on dealing with the real opponent and coaxing Rong Susu back to him.

The door was flung open.

He Shurong almost rushed in, and the worry that she had deliberately squeezed out of her face was instantly covered by a smug look.

She glared fiercely at the bodyguards standing at the door, and even reached out her hand and pushed one of them with all her strength, but the other person didn't move at all. Instead, she staggered slightly due to the reaction force.

This made her even more angry, and she walked quickly to the bedside in her high heels that were at least ten centimeters high.

"Brother! Are you okay? You scared me!" Her voice was filled with exaggerated crying, and she leaned forward with her arms open as if she was about to pounce on Cheng Huaian.

"Stop." Cheng Huaian's voice suddenly cooled down, carrying an unquestionable pressure.

He Shurong's movements froze in mid-air.

"Just stand there and talk." He didn't even look at her, his gaze fixed on his hands resting on the snow-white sheets, his tone indifferent as if he was giving orders to a stranger.

The expression on He Shurong's face froze instantly, and the "Brother~" that she had been brewing came out with a twisted and coquettish tone, and the ending tone was dragged out for a long time, using her usual and tried-and-tested gesture to soften him.

When she finally met Cheng Huaian's gaze, all the words she had prepared were stuck in her throat.

There wasn't the gentleness or tolerance she'd expected in Cheng Huaian's eyes; only undisguised disdain. Yes, disdain. It was like looking at a piece of filth that couldn't be shaken off.

He Shurong knew her stepbrother too well. He had been deep and unpredictable since he was a child, never showing his emotions. Even when he was angry, it was usually with a cold and oppressive feeling. When had he ever written such straightforward impatience and disgust on his face like he did now?

This huge gap made her stunned for a moment, her mind went blank, and she even forgot to cry. She just stood there blankly. The only sounds in the ward were her slightly rapid breathing and the very light but panic-inducing tapping sound of Cheng Huaian's fingertips unconsciously tapping on the edge of the bed.

"Brother, Rong Susu cheated me." It took her a long time to remember the purpose of her visit. She complained aggrievedly, adding fuel to the fire and saying that Rong Susu hired someone to pretend to be an agency to sign a contract favoring her, but did not give her any resources. This was blatant revenge!

But after hearing this, Cheng Huaian wasn't the least bit surprised, as if he had already seen through everything. He actually smiled and asked her, "Didn't you sign the contract willingly? Did she force you to do it?"
