Chapter 47 Liang Yanzhe Loses Control During the Rainy Season.
Liang Yanzhe stopped in his tracks and repeated her words.
"who I am?"
His heart felt like it was being gripped by an invisible hand, so tight that he couldn't breathe properly, and a dull pain shot through his chest.
She has amnesia?
Don't you remember him?
Lin Fei hid behind the curtain, revealing a pair of bewildered eyes: "Are you a doctor?"
Liang Yanzhe glanced at his scrub uniform and white coat, remaining silent with a furrowed brow.
Regardless of whether it was true or not, looking into her fearful eyes, his nose wrinkled and his palms grew colder.
"Brother-in-law, why are you standing at the door?" Chi Yao, who had just returned from paying the bill, entered the ward, his gaze sweeping between the couple, wondering what they were doing.
"Sister, don't get up suddenly. The doctor said you need to rest more." Chi Yao put down the medical record and went over to help Lin Fei back to bed.
Lin Fei blinked and asked timidly, "You call him...brother-in-law?"
"Hmm...isn't that wrong?" Chi Yao was a little confused by her older sister and tentatively asked, "Can't we call him brother-in-law, we should call him...Dr. Liang?"
“Call him brother-in-law, call me sister, and me and him…” Lin Fei pointed his index finger back and forth between the two of them.
"Sis...Sis...you didn't really damage your brain, did you?" Chi Yao stood up in alarm, making as if to rush out the door, wailing, "Doctor! My sister has amnesia!"
Liang Yanzhe grabbed Chi Yao and said coldly, "No need, just take her upstairs for a brain CT scan."
"Brother-in-law, you should still get a doctor to take a look. My sister hit her forehead pretty hard; she almost needed stitches." Chi Yao was so nervous he almost stammered.
Liang Yanzhe took out a small lamp from his breast pocket: "I can take care of it."
Chi Yao thought worriedly, "Is it reliable for a cardiac surgeon to examine the brain?"
As Liang Yanzhe approached step by step, Lin Fei pulled the blanket tighter and kept shrinking back until her entire back was pressed against the hospital bed, until there was nowhere to escape.
She gave a dry laugh and exclaimed dramatically, "Wow, I actually have such a handsome husband, and he's a doctor! I've hit the jackpot in my life!"
Chi Yao sensed something was wrong, rushed forward, grabbed Lin Fei's wrist, and said through gritted teeth, "Sis, you scared me to death! I really thought you'd gone idiot!"
"You're the idiot! All of you with the surname Chi are idiots!" Lin Fei pulled his hand back and twisted his wrist. "You're in the way. This is just marital fun. You wouldn't understand."
Chi Yao, her eyes red, said, "What kind of romantic gesture is this? It'll scare people to death!"
"Why are you reacting so strongly? Dr. Liang didn't have any objections." Lin Fei nudged Chi Yao. "Go home and report to Grandma that I'm fine and don't get in her way. I need to rest."
Chi Yao wanted to scold Lin Fei for using him and then kicking him out, but the most important thing right now was to go back and report to his grandmother, who was living in fear at home.
Moreover, Liang Yanzhe also came, so Lin Fei had someone to take care of her.
Chi Yao left first, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
Only they remained in the ward, and Lin Fei felt... it was excessively quiet.
"I was just joking, I'm fine." Lin Fei raised what he thought was a very cheerful smile.
On the contrary, the light in Liang Yanzhe's eyes gradually dimmed.
"Okay, I shouldn't have made that joke, I apologize."
If the person involved doesn't find it funny, then it's offensive.
Lin Fei sincerely apologized: "I didn't go to the front line. I was just helping to distribute supplies. I didn't expect to run into Uncle Min, who had secretly run out to look for his son. I was afraid something would happen to him, so I rushed forward and grabbed him without thinking. But he was too strong, and I couldn't hold him down. I was pushed and bumped my forehead and knee. That's the whole story. I'm sure the gentle and refined Dr. Liang won't hold it against me, right?"
Liang Yanzhe chuckled softly, his voice barely audible. "You've already said all that. If you're still angry, then I'm being tactless."
Lin Fei felt that this sentence was strange, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
"I'm glad you're alright. You can rest at the hospital tonight." Liang Yanzhe tucked the blanket in. "I'm going back to my department now."
Lin Fei felt annoyed, thinking to herself, "I've said so many nice things, and this is how he reacts?"
The ward door closed, and Liang Yanzhe left without looking back.
After a while, Cai Cai opened the door. She asked with concern, "Are you feeling better?"
"Oh..." Lin Fei came back to his senses, "I'm almost healed."
"Let me help you dry your hair." Cai Cai ran over during her break, worried that Lin Fei would catch a cold if he didn't dry his hair.
Lin Fei then realized that his hair was still wet.
After drying her hair, Lin Fei lay back on the bed and checked her phone several times.
There has been no news of Liang Yanzhe.
He wouldn't have walked away like this before. Is he really angry?
She apologized!
The more Lin Fei thought about it, the more depressed he became. He kept his eyes open until dawn broke.
Chi Xin sent a message saying that the floodwaters in Chunxi Street had not yet receded completely, but the mudslides had been mostly cleared, the water was clean, and the signal and electricity had been restored.
Lin Fei thought it was a message from Liang Yanzhe. After reading it, he replied with an "okay," then put down his phone and stared blankly out the window.
Her mind was in complete turmoil, so she checked out of the hospital and took a taxi home.
In the car, Lin Fei sent a message to Liang Yanzhe.
Lin Fei: [I've been discharged from the hospital and gone home.]
About ten minutes later, she arrived home, and Liang Yanzhe replied.
Lin Fei was so frustrated by the short reply that he stayed in bed until noon before finally falling asleep.
When she woke up, the room was pitch black, but she could vaguely hear sounds outside. She was sure that Liang Yanzhe had returned, so she threw off the covers and went outside to find him.
Liang Yanzhe was tidying up the kitchen when he glanced at Lin Fei, who appeared at the door, and said calmly, "There's food in the insulated box."
He turned around again, his brows furrowed: "Go back to your room and put on your shoes first."
Lin Fei remained motionless, staring intently at Liang Yanzhe.
Liang Yanzhe didn't say anything to blame her. Instead, he went back to her room, got her shoes, and placed them by her feet.
"Get dressed."
"I'm going on a business trip in a couple of days. There's a project in Lu San Liya. I don't know how long I'll be gone, so I'm letting you know."
Without waiting for her reply, he turned and walked towards the stairs after speaking.
"Liang Yanzhe, if you're angry or upset, just yell at me. Is it necessary to give me the cold shoulder?" Lin Fei wanted to avoid conflict as much as possible, so she hesitated to expose the awkwardness between them, but she couldn't stand his indifferent treatment of her.
Liang Yanzhe stopped in his tracks.
Lin Fei kicked off her shoes, walked barefoot to him, and said very confidently, "I've already apologized to you!"
"I have to accept your apology, right?" Liang Yanzhe's voice was devoid of emotion, flat and cold.
Lin Fei realized she was being a bit unreasonable: "That's not what I meant..."
"Then what do you mean?" He lowered his eyes, his gaze cold.
"It's just...it's just..." Lin Fei stammered, feeling timid.
Liang Yanzhe scoffed, "You can't even say it yourself."
"If there's a conflict, you can talk about it, and we can resolve it." Lin Fei reached out to take his hands, but he dodged away.
"Isn't what I did what you expected? How can there be a contradiction?" Liang Yanzhe retorted coldly. "Lin Fei, haven't I performed according to your expectations? Are you dissatisfied?"
Lin Fei found himself in a low-pressure environment, bombarded with questions until he forgot to breathe.
“I think…we should calm down,” she said softly.
Liang Yanzhe asked, "Lin Fei, what exactly do I mean to you?"
Lin Fei opened his mouth.
"You can't answer that, and you don't have the answer in your heart either."
"Do you like it? But the things you say to me are almost entirely insincere."
Lin Fei looked into his deep black eyes: "Does it really have to... have meaning?"
Suddenly, he grabbed her lower body, pressing three fingers tightly against her neck, closing in step by step, and asked uncontrollably, "Lin Fei, how can your feelings be so self-centered? You made me fall uncontrollably in love with you, but you don't accept this love. Your love is passionate but lacks sincerity. Am I being greedy?"
"Didn't you provoke me first?"
"Didn't I tell you I can't love you? Why are you still saying all sorts of nice things to me, wanting me to be with you?"
Lin Fei gripped his wrist tightly and shook her head slightly.
"Lin Fei, you are no different from them. If my performance does not meet expectations, you will abandon me too."
Liang Yanzhe suddenly became incredibly calm, released his grip, and took two steps back.
He joked, "I was greedy."
At that moment, he loathed himself utterly.
Why must she have so many emotional desires? Why force her to respond to him?
His struggling and dark heart makes him unworthy of her.
Lin Fei bumped into the sofa, but managed to brace himself with his hands to prevent his legs from giving way and causing him to fall to the ground.
"I'm sorry." Liang Yanzhe left these words behind and departed without looking back.
Lin Fei was completely stunned, gripped by fear and helplessness, unable to think, and had no time to process his words.
The doorbell rang for what seemed like forever before Lin Fei snapped out of her daze, thinking it was Liang Yanzhe returning. She stumbled and ran to open the door.
Zhong Shuwen, standing outside the door, saw Lin Fei with tears streaming down her face, and injuries on her forehead and lips.
"Did Liang Yanzhe bully you?" He ran over from across the hall after hearing the loud slam of the door.
Lin Fei shook his head and said weakly, "No."
"Don't speak up for him, I'll back you up, don't be afraid." Zhong Shuwen took out his phone from his pocket, ready to make a call.
Lin Fei pressed down on Zhong Shuwen's hand, unable to hold back her tears, and squatted on the ground, burying her head.
"Afei, why are you crying? If you have any grievances, tell your brother. Don't cry." Although Zhong Shuwen had often coaxed his two younger sisters, they were both stubborn and unyielding, and this was the first time he had seen them cry so sadly.
Lin Fei muttered to himself, "I feel like a complete jerk."
Liang Yanzhe has already made so many concessions for her, yet she has never seen the struggle in his heart. He is right; her behavior is no different from that of those who have hurt him.
Zhong Shuwen helped Lin Fei up and took her back to the living room, wiping her tears with a tissue.
After Lin Fei finished crying, she finally told him that they had just had an argument.
"I admit I'm afraid of getting too close to people, but I've never denied that he's not important."
“I told you before, don’t think I’m being wise after the event,” Zhong Shuwen said. “People like Liang Yanzhe may have a good temper, and it’s okay to be friends with them, but it’s not good to get too close to them. How can a person always be so gentle? The hearts of these kinds of people are unfathomable. Once they develop an obsession, they will only obsessively want to get it. You don’t like to take things too seriously, and you will definitely have a conflict with him someday.”
"Brother, you didn't say that!" Lin Fei glared at Zhong Shuwen.
Zhong Shuwen asked, "If I told you, you wouldn't marry him?"
"I..." Lin Fei was even angrier at herself, and tears streamed down her face.
As Liang Yanzhe's good friend, Zhong Shuwen knew a lot about his past. "A prodigy like Liang Yanzhe had many admirers during his school days, including Lin Manyin. She genuinely and sincerely liked him, as everyone in our circle knows. But as time passed, everyone moved on with their lives and stopped talking about the past. Lin Manyin, who had all the advantages, suddenly stopped pursuing him and reverted to just being friends. Do you know why?"
Lin Fei's nose was stuffy and he kept shaking his head.
"Because she couldn't bear Liang Yanzhe's dark past, and she couldn't give him the steadfast and passionate love he wanted." This was something no one else knew. Zhong Shuwen only found out by chance when she met Lin Manyin, who was drinking alone on the deck of the cruise ship, and they chatted all night.
"Afei, loving someone isn't about saying it."
"Deciding to love someone means that you can accept them in the past, present, and future, and be able to respond to them and face things together with them."
Lin Fei had been crying so hard that her fingertips were still trembling.
Liang Yanzhe accepted all of her good and bad past, and remained steadfast in every choice she made. What about her?
It seems she never responded to his silent love.
"I'm so scared."
"I was a coward."
She said, blaming herself.
"Afei, what's there to be afraid of?"
"Think about it, the person you love is waiting for you ahead, there's nothing to be afraid of."
Zhong Shuwen could understand Lin Fei's hesitation at the door, her inability to ring the bell, and her lack of security.
His words awakened Lin Fei.
Liang Yanzhe was waiting for her ahead, so why was she afraid of love?
"Alright, rest first." Zhong Shuwen poured Lin Fei a glass of warm water. "Although I don't know exactly what he said to you, let's give him some time to calm down and talk again tomorrow, okay?"
Lin Fei looked at Zhong Shuwen and nodded: "Can I sleep at your house?"
I'm home alone tonight and I can't fall asleep.
Zhong Shuwen brought Lin Fei back, and also took the cat with her.
-
Lin Fei didn't sleep well. When she looked in the mirror in the morning, she had a slight puffiness, probably because she rarely cries. Her eyes were still red from crying, clearly showing that she hadn't rested well.
She put on her mask and left the room.
"My goodness!" Zhong Shuwen exclaimed in surprise, "What kind of outfit is that?"
Lin Fei picked up Shunshun and sat cross-legged on the sofa: "Your face is so swollen, let me cover it up."
Zhong Shuwen placed the breakfast on the table, removed Lin Fei's mask, and said, "There's no need to cover up so tightly at home. I won't say anything to you."
After last night, Lin Fei's impression of Zhong Shuwen improved slightly, and she ate breakfast as he suggested.
"Wait... to the hospital?" Zhong Shuwen asked tentatively.
Lin Fei shook his head: "Give me some time."
Zhong Shuwen thought it was good for Lin Fei to think it over again, since once you choose to provoke someone like Liang Yanzhe, you won't be able to get rid of him easily.
"Brother, what kind of person was Liang Sheng during his student days?" Lin Fei didn't know when it started, but she was curious about what kind of life Liang Yanzhe had lived in the past.
Zhong Shuwen recalled and smiled: "He was too perfect. He was able to take on heavy responsibilities at such a young age and could do everything to the best of his ability, so much so that he didn't leave a deep impression. Not only me, but if you ask people in the same circle what they remember about Liang Yanzhe, they will all say that when he was sixteen, he was no longer groomed as an heir and chose to go abroad to study medicine."
Humans are truly strange creatures.
You can only remember the feeling of a moment when you have a good thing, but you remember the bad things very clearly, without forgetting any details.
It's like a history textbook; a prosperous dynasty is only described with a single positive word, while most of the focus is on various events and failed uprisings, from their beginnings to their causes, which could fill half a book.
“Liang Sheng is really having a hard time. You guys don’t remember any of the good things he did.” Lin Fei finished eating and lay down on his side. “I’m different from you guys. I remember all the good things he did.”
"Why Liang Yanzhe?" Zhong Shuwen had asked before, but Lin Fei had always brushed it off.
Lin Fei seemed to be thinking about something from a long time ago, and smiled knowingly.
“He came back the night you took me to his apartment and made me dinner. I complained about Zhong Shuyu and told her that we had argued. He told me that I did the right thing and that I was very brave. At that moment, I thought, he's the one.”
Zhong Shuwen blinked blankly: "That's it?"
If he knew that praising Lin Fei would win her heart, he would have showered her with compliments.
"Yes, that's it." Lin Fei couldn't explain it clearly.
What she wanted wasn't praise, but the fact that in this unfamiliar city, isolated and helpless, suffering all kinds of grievances, only he was gentle and kind.
It was from that compliment that she began to consider him as a potential daddy.
It's ridiculous, but that's life.
"You should get some rest. I'm going to work now." Zhong Shuwen stopped worrying about it. Feelings are hard to explain; no one knows when sparks will fly.
Lin Fei slept on the sofa for half an hour. When she woke up, the swelling on her face had gone down, and it was impossible to tell that she had been crying.
She inquired about Liang Yanzhe's work schedule in the small group.
Tian Ying sent a tired voice message: "Teacher's wife, are you coming to visit the set? Please come quickly and persuade the teacher to rest for a while. I've been with him in surgery all day, and I feel like my soul is about to die."
Ye Zhan was too exhausted to type: "Teacher's wife, please come now, please be kind to us."
Lin Fei immediately perked up. "I'll go over now and order some snacks for everyone. Don't be shy."
Teacher Liang begs for mercy (Tian Ying): [My angelic teacher's wife, I will love you forever!]
Director Liang, please take a rest (Ye Zhan): [Please send this message to the group chat after you get in the car. I'll be waiting for you in the hospital lobby!]
The two even started acting, and Lin Fei was amused by their conversation.
Before leaving home, Lin Fei encouraged himself and drove straight to the Second Affiliated Hospital.
Ye Zhan personally ran over to open the car door for Lin Fei and stood very close to her.
“Madam, an old lady suddenly came by, accompanied by the dean. The dean is waiting in Director Song’s office now, and the old lady went into Teacher Liang’s office. I don’t know what they’re talking about. Would you like to go up later?” Ye Zhan told Lin Fei in advance, afraid that she would feel uncomfortable.
old lady?
Could it possibly alarm the old lady who is the dean?
Lin Fei only had one person he had never met before, so he went straight to the department.
Her first instinct was to push the door open and go in, but as soon as she raised her hand, the cursing coming from inside made her stop.
“You’re not allowed to go anywhere! Six years ago you also said you were going abroad for an exchange program, but you ended up staying there for six years.”
“Grandma, I have no intention of inheriting the Liang family business, nor am I capable of doing so.”
"Don't think I don't know you left to make way for your sister. Do she and Xiaoting think I'm stupid enough not to see through their tricks?"
"This is between you and them."
The two were speaking Cantonese, and they argued so fast that Lin Fei had some difficulty understanding them.
"Teacher's wife?" Tian Ying called to Lin Fei softly.
Lin Fei was somewhat dazed: "I... Grandma had an emergency, so I had to leave first. If your teacher asks, just say I heard he was still busy, so I left first."
Before leaving, she didn't forget to ask Ye Zhan to help deliver Zhong Shuwen's snack.
Lin Fei took a taxi back to Chunxi, his mind a mess.
Old Mrs. Liang's words were like a bucket of cold water, waking her up.
Wasn't Liang Yanzhe going to attend an exchange meeting? Is he going back to being a Doctors Without Borders?
He seems to have said that he wasn't sure if he would stay in Jiangdu for long.
So after being evaded by her time and time again, he chose to leave?
Lin Fei's thoughts were in disarray, as if he had lost his soul. After arriving home, he responded to his grandmother's concerned words with a few words and went back to his room.
She didn't know how long she had been sitting at her desk, until it was quite dark, when she received a text message from Liang Yanzhe.
He has already boarded the plane, which will take off in ten minutes, with a flight time of sixteen hours.
They only mentioned the itinerary, nothing else.
Has the trip been moved up?
Why are you leaving today?
Lin Fei panicked completely.
Coming to her senses, she dialed Liang Yanzhe's number. He didn't answer.
I didn't answer the second one either.
The third message, also delivered by a female voice, announced that the user's device had been switched off.
Lin Fei stood up and, with trembling hands, dialed Tian Ying's number.

Author's note: [Watching the drama unfold] Work is on hold; I'm going abroad to pursue my husband.
No one wanted to avoid it, but some issues just need time to work things out.
The overseas parts should be really exciting, right? Driving a car in the wilderness (just kidding [doge emoji]).
Still 66, love you all!
