Chapter 21

The trees in the forest began to change color gradually. In the daytime, Song Xu climbed to the top of a tree and could see the gorgeous colors of gold and red in the distance.

She was picking fruits from the trees and saw a red tree in the distance. She immediately became interested and pulled Wumu to look for the red-leaf tree in the distance. When they found the tree, they discovered that only the top of the tree was red, and there were still many green leaves underneath. It had not been completely dyed. She

picked up a fallen red leaf from the ground. The leaf was not the five-pointed maple leaf she was familiar with, but an oval shape, symmetrically growing on a stem.

"Look, what a red leaf."

Wumu's eyes fell on the red leaf in her hand. The fallen leaves on the ground were all of this kind of red leaves, and he didn't see any difference.

"If it were in the past, I would have used it as a bookmark." Song Xu said to himself.

There are so many beautiful leaves in the forest, especially in autumn. As long as you walk in the forest, you can often see fallen leaves that are green and yellow, red and yellow, or pure red, dark red, or golden. The shapes are also different, perfect circle, ellipse, with sharp corners, trident, palm shape... all kinds of colors.

As Song Xu walked, she would often stop to pick up a leaf and comment on the autumn light falling through the gaps in the trees: "This leaf is evenly colored and has a perfect shape. No wonder bugs like it. There are several holes bitten by bugs."

"The shape of this leaf is not very good, but the traces of bugs crawling on it are very abstract, art!"

"The yellow diffusion effect of this leaf is like watercolor, beautiful."

She covered her face with a leaf that was half golden and half green and took a deep breath: "This is the smell of autumn."

She was so interested in even the most ordinary things in the forest.

Wu Mu's face was also covered with a large piece of fallen leaves. Song Xu asked, "What do you smell?"

Wu Mu stared at the leaf, unable to understand the abstract smell of autumn. Xin Zi spit and uttered two words in Song Xu's expectant eyes: "Rabbit."

Song Xu: "Rabbit?"

She responded, "Ah! You mean there is a smell left by rabbits?"

After smelling it again, it seemed to be true. This means that there must be a nest of rabbits nearby. Song Xu switched from the art channel to the life channel: "We have almost stockpiled nuts, why not change the taste and get some meat?" Although

it is not delicious, it is okay to eat it occasionally.

She followed the smell left on the leaves and searched for the nest of rabbits with the help of Sheshe and caught them all.

The meat was casually made into barbecue jerky, but what really made Song Xu spend a lot of time to deal with was the rabbit fur.

When autumn arrives, winter is not far away. What needs to be prepared is not only food, but also various tools to resist the cold. The "clothes" she usually wears are her own squirrel fur. It is soft and not too thick. It can cover the main body freely, or it can be partially folded up, but it cannot cover the whole body.

In beastman form, there will be a layer of membrane on the soles of the feet and palms to protect from injuries when walking or climbing branches, but it cannot be covered with fur, so it will be cold in winter.

Song Xu recalled that his original self was often shivering in the forest of his hometown last winter, and he decided to make some gloves and shoes for himself to protect his hands and feet. It would be better if he could make a big thing as a sweater, so that it would not be so cold when going out in winter.

The fur was processed using the common method used in the orc tribe, scraping off the fat, soaking and rubbing with wood ash. The fur processed with this simple method usually stops keeping warm within two years, but in the poor little tribe of the original body, being able to have a large beast skin for warmth was considered a "wealthy family".

Song Xu knew a better way to nitrate the fur, but unfortunately he had no medicine or equipment, so he could only make do.

While scraping off the fat from the rabbit's fur by the water, Song Xu thought about the hibernation of snakes. Although Wumu is an orc, snakes and orcs are the same as ordinary snakes, so they should

all have a hibernation period, right? Hibernating snakes will find a place to sleep in a sheltered place, without eating or drinking, and as long as no one disturbs them, they can sleep through the entire winter.

If Wumu was like this, Song Xu felt that while she was making preparations for the winter, she should also try her best to create a good hibernation environment for the snakes at home. This was her unshirkable responsibility.

First, she had to repair the stone cave that was leaking air everywhere, and use mud to fill up the leaking gaps and holes. Throwing

the half-finished rabbit skin in the water to soak, Song Xu picked up mud with her bare hands at the water's edge. The soft mud that was often trampled by wild boars, antelopes and deer at the water's edge was most suitable for filling the gaps between stones. It was delicate, soft, and had good adhesion.

Wumu dragged a prey and found Song Xu playing in the mud by the water. The snake's tail loosened, and a strangled animal fell heavily in front of her.

The two have different recipes and basically do not share their food. Only Song Xu would invite Wumu to taste her food. Wumu would never let her taste his prey... because he would always swallow it whole.

So when Wumu suddenly put his prey in front of her, Song Xu was a little confused.

Seeing that she did not move, Wumu pushed the prey with gray and black fur with his snake tail: "Here you go."

Song Xu thought to herself, did he see her catching a rabbit to roast and suddenly catch a big one for her because he thought she wanted to eat meat? Squatting down and carefully examining the gift Wumu brought, Song Xu thought it was a dog at first glance. How could there be a dog in this place? It must be the dog's brother, the big wolf.

Wu Mu: "The fur is for the winter. I give it to you."

Song Xu was shocked: What kind of baby is it that you actually took the initiative to prepare fur for me for the winter? ! So why is your own cave basically empty?

She was moved to skin the wolf, which was probably a wolf, but she didn't know what kind of wolf it was. The smell of the remaining meat made her look melancholy: "This meat should not taste good."

There is nothing delicious about wild game, it's all just smell.

Glancing at Sheshe's flat belly, Song Xu thought about letting Sheshe eat the remaining meat. Before she opened her mouth, Sheshe had turned around and swam away. He looked down on such small prey and wanted to find a big one.

Song Xu resigned herself to dealing with the fur and meat, and did not go with Sheshe to watch him hunt.

It took him quite a long time to hunt this time, and no one knew where he went. Song Xu looked for him everywhere but couldn't find him. When it was almost dark, a ferocious snake head finally appeared in Song Xu's sight, and its two dark red eyes reflected the dim light like glass beads.

"You're back, let's go back." Song Xu called to him.

The snake swam to her side, its body squirming, and a bulging thing went from its body to its throat, and was finally spit out by it, falling at her feet.

Song Xu: "???"

It was a whole piece of fur, and when she used a branch to pick it open, she found that the bones and flesh inside were basically gone.

She had seen videos of snakes swallowing eggs raw and then spitting out the eggshells. She also knew that snakes have a special body structure, so it is easier for them to spit out what they have eaten. However, she had never seen a snake eat the flesh and bones of its prey and spit out only the fur!

Song Xu: "...Awesome!" It's a fully automatic snake skinning machine!

What's even more amazing is that when she soaked the fur in water, she later found out that it looked like a bear, a very large one, and the fur wrapped around its body looked like a woolen quilt.

After that day, every time Wu Mu ate, he would spit out the fur for her.

Every time Song Xu saw it, she would exclaim that it was amazing, and she would express her gratitude to Wu Mu for helping her prepare winter supplies. However, after a while, she looked at the dozens of furs soaking in the pond that she had not yet dealt with, and had to discuss with Wu Mu: "Baby, it's almost done. I have enough clothes. You don't have to force yourself to eat just to prepare a fur coat for me."

He has been eating a lot more recently.

Sometimes Song Xu thought Sheshe was a silly snake, and sometimes she found that he actually knew everything, and suspected that he might be pretending to be stupid.

Sheshe took the initiative to prepare furs for her without her request, and took the initiative to prepare firewood for her to use in winter without her asking.

Farther away from the cave, the trees near the water were not so strong. The snake could use its tail to wrap around the trunk of a tree and drag it back. One tree was enough for Song Xu to burn for several days.

He dragged dozens of trees back in one go, leaving long marks on the road they often walked on.

Song Xu squatted above the cave with mud on his hands to patch up the gap. He saw smoke and dust from a distance and thought it was a large wild animal fighting. He wondered if he should go to watch the excitement. Only when he saw Wumu dragging the tree back did he know what had happened.

Song Xu spent two days using stones and mud to fill in all the gaps, big and small. She also took some of the trees that Wu Mu had dragged back to make two doors for the cave, one in front and one in the back, to block the wind in winter and prevent other animals from getting in.

This should have been done a long time ago, but Song Xu was lazy. She had to find food and play every day, so it would be too tiring to make two more doors. She was not good at cutting trees, so she put it off until autumn. Wu Mu happened to bring back more materials, so she couldn't put it off any longer and had to accept her fate and work. The branches and

leaves of the trees in the forest became sparser day by day, just like a middle-aged man entering the hair loss period. A layer of new fallen leaves could be seen on the ground every day, and it could cover the entire ankle when stepped on.

The wind was getting colder day by day, and the bonfire that was abandoned in the summer because it was too hot was rekindled every night.

Song Xu finally made two satisfactory doors and installed them in the cave.

The furs for the winter were also processed and spread on the top of the cave and on the treetops to dry every day, and then put away at night.

Wumu dragged back many more trees to surround the cave. Song Xu had difficulty walking through the dead trees that were placed in a mess, and he objected to the snakes who were preparing firewood.

"Baby, I can't get out if you put them in such a mess. Can you not arrange them neatly and leave a path for me?"

Wumu didn't agree. He looked at the dead trees hiding the cave and said to Song Xu, "Don't go out in winter."

Song Xu: "I know, I know. You sleep in winter and don't go out, but I want to go out."

Wumu: "No, it's dangerous."
