Chapter 46 Accidental Events.
The dripping liquid accumulated higher and higher, sticking to the soles of shoes and making it difficult to move.
"There's a ghost in here, get out quickly."
"You think I don't want to go out? I can't even walk! The damn thing is still dripping."
The figure of a little boy appeared in everyone's sight, holding a short knife in his hand. The highly viscous liquid slid over his body without leaving even a single black spot.
The flames that appeared out of nowhere suddenly illuminated the entire air-raid shelter, and also illuminated Shu Maomao's bottomless black eyes.
Fire? Good stuff, he wanted it.
The flames burned the boy's clothes, but the boy stood there motionless like a wooden man.
Shu Maomao, using his clone ability, appeared beside the fire-type mutant like a shadow, and stabbed the knife in his hand into his lower back.
On the flat ground outside, District Eight Commander Shi Zhenbang frowned and looked in the direction of the air-raid shelter.
"Why did they take so long?"
The secretary next to him picked up the intercom and asked, "What's going on? Haven't they caught him yet?"
There was no response from the intercom, but instead a slender figure emerged from the end of the road. Amidst the stunned gazes of the remaining people, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry for not introducing myself to you yet."
"I'm the new commander of District 9, Qin Xiaoshuang."
A gust of wind blew up from somewhere, blowing up the sand and dust on the ground. The woman's figure was submerged in the yellow sand, but her voice was particularly clear.
"Welcome to District 9. There can only be one commander, and only one—"
"A person with superpowers."
It was like lighting firecrackers to welcome guests. After she finished speaking, the cars parked in the open space suddenly exploded one after another. People standing nearby were blown away by the waves of fire. The supplies that they had brought out with great effort turned into fragments and flew into the sky. The people whose attention was diverted suddenly came to their senses, but it was too late to save the situation.
The wind and sand were getting stronger and stronger, and I couldn't see anything except the flames. It seemed like something sharp was scratching across my cheek. I reached out to grab it but found it was a very thin ice needle.
"Go ahead and kill her."
All guns were simultaneously trained on the blurry figure in the dust. Then, a tender voice rang out: "Establish a new rule. Raise your hands, kneel down, and do not resist."
Thump, thump, everyone who heard this sentence felt their knees weaken at the same time and fell to the ground.
Shi Zhenbang's knees went weak and he fell to the ground. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stand up. A look of shock appeared on his face, and he couldn't believe what was happening before his eyes.
He screamed uncontrollably, "No, this isn't right! This is supposed to be my ability! New rule: Get down on your knees."
Shi Zhenbang's special ability is called rule-making. He can make a new rule every working day, and others must obey it unconditionally, with a time limit of twenty minutes.
The wind and sand stopped, and the sky was so dark that it seemed like it was going to rain. Against this gloomy background, after Shi Zhenbang established the new rules, the boy still sat on the rubble, looking at them indifferently, like a god looking down at the mortals crawling at his feet.
It was a gentle and helpless female voice that pulled him down to earth.
"Good boy."
Shu Lan, who was also kneeling on the ground, said, "Next time you use this ability, remember to exclude Mommy."
…
It started to rain outside, and with more than a hundred people in the relatively warmer underground residence, the originally spacious space became crowded.
Fang Botao put down a wounded man and saw a bunch of strangers tied up on the ground. He was about to speak when Zhong Mei, who was passing by, elbowed him in the ribs and reminded him, "Do your job, don't ask questions."
Fang Botao quickly swallowed the question back. Yes, the commander doesn't like to explain.
Shu Lan passed by, followed by a little kid. Her tactful subordinates brought a chair over to her. She sat down confidently and said, "These are our friends from District 8 who have joined us. Of course, it's okay if they don't join. I respect everyone's wishes."
Shi Zhenbang raised his head, looked directly at Shu Lan, and asked firmly, "Your child is a predator. He can steal other people's superpowers, right?"
Shu Lan raised her lips slightly: "Not all questions will be answered once asked."
"Even if you don't answer, I know he must be Li Yanli's son!"
"Li Yanli was beaten half to death and used as a biological sample for research. Sooner or later, he will suffer the same fate!"
Shu Lan rested her elbows on the armrests of the chair, supporting her face. When she wasn't smiling, one could tell that the child next to her had facial features that were almost identical to hers.
Ignoring the hysteria of the person in front of her, Shu Lan thought absentmindedly, it turns out that person's name is Li Yanli, but she doesn't know which two characters it is.
When the prisoners, influenced by their commander, began to curse, the people from District 9 could no longer bear it. Sister Wang, who was in charge of cooking, came out with a rolling pin and said, "Let's see who dares to curse our commander again."
"Her son is trying to steal everyone's superpowers. Are you going to side with a robber?"
Shu Lan collected her wandering thoughts and said with a smile, "Why not? Drag the person who just scolded me out and make him a snack for the zombies passing by tonight."
"No! You can't be this bad! You will die a miserable death!"
After dragging a group of people out, the underground became much quieter. Shu Lan took a sip of warm water to moisten her throat, and said softly, "You can choose between staying and leaving. Make your choice before dark. Only then can Sister Wang decide how many cups of rice to add tonight."
"……What's the meaning?"
Zhong Mei pulled out her notebook and said in a serious tone, "Those who choose to stay, please come and register your name with me, including your previous job and any specialties you have. If you are injured, you can also come here. I have healing abilities."
Fang Botao stood beside her: "If you want to leave, tell me and I'll give you a ride."
Shu Lan left the rest to them. She took a large umbrella and walked Shu Maomao down to the ground. She squatted in front of Shi Zhenbang, the commander of the Former Eighth District, and asked him, "You probably have a lot of questions you want to ask me. How about I ask you one, and you ask me one?"
The man lying on the ground drenched for a while. The spring rain still carried a chill. His lips turned pale from the cold, and his glasses were covered with water droplets. His voice trembled as he spoke, "Give me back my superpowers first."
Shu Lan said, "They only know how to plunder, not return."
Shi Zhenbang's head tilted to the ground, letting the mud and water soak his cheeks. He looked extremely angry and had no desire to live.
"Did you abandon the ordinary people in the base if you were able to escape?"
"I at least saved some of them. Your actions were even more extreme. You have no right to condemn me."
Shu Lan said, "I don't mean to condemn you. I just want to know how powerful the zombies out there are. Now that all communications have been cut off, I want to know the outcome of that negotiation."
"We lost. District One arranged for all irregular troops to ambush the Zombie King at the negotiation site, but the Zombie King saw through their plan and killed them."
It's not surprising that he knew this news, after all, he was once the leader of an area.
Shu Lan asked, "The Zombie King refers to the female zombie named Anselin?"
"Who else but her?"
Her legs felt a little sore from squatting, so Shu Lan stood up and stamped her feet. "If someone told you that our Blue Planet would have only night and no day in the future, would you believe it?"
Shi Zhenbang opened his eyes again: "The power of prophecy?"
"no."
"I don't believe it."
Shu Lan thought, it seems that the so-called eternal night stage is not a secret known to every district commander.
Could it be that these were really the nonsense that Jiang He spoke before he died?
"Are you Li Yanli's wife?"
This time it was the man's turn to speak first, and Shu Lan understood that he had agreed to the deal of exchanging information with her.
"I don't know him at all. I only know that he's from Donghu Province and has the same abilities as my son."
"So, your son becoming a predator was also an accident?"
Shu Lan lied calmly: "Yes, my husband died before my son was born, and I don't have any special abilities."
She didn't say that the answer had to be true.
