Urban Giant Wolf Legend (Part 3)

Urban Giant Wolf Legend (Part 3)

An hour later, Liang Qing appeared at the side door 1B on the first floor of the office building, carrying a training bag and wearing sunglasses.

She paid special attention to the direction of the main gate, where a dozen men were gathered and distributing weapons. The leader was a bald man who rolled up his sleeves to reveal his tattoos.

There was no motorcycle among their spoils. Liang Qing took a look and hurried away.

She found a familiar path and headed toward the city. She had no clear destination in mind. That morning, while shuffling the baby's swaddling clothes, Liang Qing noticed they were made from a single bed sheet. In the center of the blue and white plaid was a medical school logo. The medical school was two subway stops from Liang Qing's home, so she decided to walk there and try her luck.

In one corner of the sheet, three letters were scratched in marker: LBB. The font was large and bold, like a man's handwriting. I couldn't tell if it was the initials of the sheet's owner or the child's name.

BB, Bingbing, Binbin, baby?

In the training bag, the little cub let out a crisp burp while snoring. Liang Qing pulled the corner of his mouth and chuckled.

The baby drank one-third of the half bucket of milk, which was at least 1L. If Liang Qing hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed that a three-month-old baby could have such an unscientific appetite.

The amazing thing is that even after eating so much, the little guy's belly was only slightly bulging. He smacked his lips sweetly, looked at Liang Qing with satisfaction, and fell asleep in seconds.

Liang Qing told himself that when it comes to anti-science, there is nothing more unscientific than entering this game.

Just as he finished feeding the little one, a new message popped up on his phone: [Congratulations, you've unlocked the "Feeding a Bonded Character for the First Time" achievement and received 5 system points as a reward!]

Followed by the points balance of 23 points.

Soon, the gate of the medical school came into view. Liang Qing's T City Karate Team included members from the medical school. On weekends, they often came to the nearby University Food City for a bite to eat. Liang Qing was very familiar with the terrain here.

As usual, she entered the school from the small path, went around to the woods in the southwest corner and observed for a while, then suddenly realized that her decision to come to the medical school was the right one.

It had rained a few days before, leaving the ground in the grove soft and shabby, with giant wolf footprints scattered across the clearing. Several trees had been snapped in half, leaving the scene in ruins. Dried blood clung to the trunks, as if they had been in a recent battle.

The tracks were in all directions, but they were mainly pointing outwards. A giant wolf had recently been spotted here.

Liang Qing had just stood up when he heard a burst of explosions coming from the main building, followed by the sound of the building collapsing.

After the loud noise, someone shouted loudly, at first in joy, but later mixed with curses.

Liang Qing retracted his steps. Inside the training bag, the sleeping kid was awakened by the noise and looked over half asleep. Liang Qing unzipped his pants and patted his face: "It's okay, just a small scene, go back to sleep."

She put the pacifier back into the doll's mouth.

The baby stared at Liang Qing, as if to confirm that she was still around, then sucked hard on the pacifier and really closed his eyes obediently to go back to sleep.

Liang Qing looked around, then looked up and quickly climbed a fir tree. The fir tree had dense branches. From a height of three stories, Liang Qing saw a group of people running out from the main building's laboratory, carrying a man.

"Who pulled the wire in advance?" the bald man angrily asked the person behind him.

A thin man raised his hand: "I..."

"Damn it, I asked you to pull the wire last, are you deaf and can't hear it?"

He argued aggrievedly: "I did hear people shouting three, two, one!"

"Get out of here! The door didn't blow open, and a corner of the main building collapsed. If you bring that thing over here, you'll have to deal with it yourself! Third brother, get his gun back! Get out of here!"

Without any explanation, the thin man's only weapon was snatched away and he was pushed out of the team.

"Someone come and help!" Just as everyone was arguing about who had given the order to start the fire, the only man who was taking care of the wounded man spoke.

He was in his early twenties, young and fair-skinned, carrying a huge mountaineering bag.

He tore open his T-shirt and tied it around the injured man's bleeding thigh, and kept checking his breathing and pulse.

"Brother Mu, look at me, don't fall asleep!"

"Thirsty..." said the man lying on the ground weakly.

Someone nearby offered their water bottle, but the backpacker stopped him, saying, "Don't give it to him! Please help carry him. We're rushing him to the infirmary. He can still be saved!"

When someone wanted to help, the bald man kicked him rudely, and no one dared to move in an instant.

The backpack man turned his head angrily: "You know that Brother Mu was injured because of our mission!"

"I know. Why, Lao Liu, are you going to stay here with him and wait for death?"

At the mention of the word "death", anger burst out from Lao Liu's eyes. He stood up and grabbed the bald man's collar, but unfortunately, his physical strength was too weak, and the bald man instantly grabbed him and pushed him to the ground.

"Give me the bag! Let this brat calm down!"

The bald man spat, but he did not drive Lao Liu away like he did the previous man. Instead, he let two men carry Lao Liu away.

No matter how Lao Liu struggled and yelled, the passerby remained indifferent to the wounded man lying on the ground. The bald man took one look at the dying man on the ground, turned around and left, and the main group followed suit.

The open space in front of the main building fell silent. After confirming that no one had returned, Liang Qing quickly climbed down from the tree.

When she reached the wounded man, he was already nearly dead from blood loss. Liang Qing felt his carotid artery and withdrew her hand after confirming that he was beyond help.

"I can't help you much. The giant wolf will appear at night. If you don't want to be mutilated, I can hide you on the second floor of the medical school. The student lockers there have lockable doors and are quite sturdy."

Liang Qing said to the man sincerely.

After a few seconds, the man nodded slightly with his last bit of strength. He pointed at his trouser pocket, and Liang Qing pulled out a dagger and a carved lighter. She put them away.

After placing the man's body, Liang Qing came out again to check the gap created by the team's explosion.

This was the entrance to the underground laboratory of the medical school. Liang Qing had never been here before. Now, the place was in ruins, with a silver explosion-proof door standing at the back.

It should be a game setting.

Liang Qing read the origin story of this copy from his phone -

"In 2046, an animal experiment conducted in a world-renowned, state-of-the-art laboratory went awry. A virus, originally sealed in a top-security safe, leaked and infected three pregnant female wolves in the lab. All three died during childbirth, the cause of death unknown. The lab was originally under a three-month lockdown, but after it was lifted, relevant organizations discovered that all the researchers involved in the lockdown had tragically perished. Furthermore, a bizarre incident occurred: the experimental data recorded that the 11 pups born that day also disappeared."

"A few months later, a horrific incident of giant wolves attacking humans occurred in a medium-sized city at coordinates A80. Residents were attacked one after another. No one knew where these giant mutant creatures came from. Surviving witnesses claimed that they were five to six times the size of ordinary gray wolves, with astonishing attack power and higher intelligence than ordinary wolves."

She recalled the dungeon's background description. The subsequent storyline involved the military's intervention, but the heavy weaponry proved ineffective against the wolves. These escaped monsters possessed exceptional defensive abilities and intelligence, and neither firearms nor cold weapons could stop their nightly slaughter. Slowly, the inhabitants of A80 fled or perished, leaving the city in ruins.

The last message states that if the giant wolves cannot be eliminated by October 20th, the government will blockade the city and use nuclear weapons to bury the giant wolves and their secrets forever. This should be the countdown to the end of the game.

Less than four days left.

Liang Qing noticed that Wu City's number, A80, was the first digits of her player ID. She speculated that the game chose real-life cities as the origins of new dungeons, with players like the woman in red being airdropped there, and also native residents like her being inexplicably swept in.

The fact that Baldy and his men went to such great lengths to blow up this door only meant they had a clue: behind this door was the laboratory where the giant wolf was created. This also explained why most of the footprints in the woods were pointing outward.

She circled the door and saw a small hole that could be turned. She had seen this combination lock on TV; it was one of those old-fashioned twist-knob locks. This type of lock required both the sequence of numbers and the direction of the twist. Even worse, the number could be any number, meaning it could be a single digit, a hundred, or a thousand. A single mistake in either number or direction would negate all the effort.

It’s no wonder that Baldy and his men used such brutal means to blow up half of the teaching building. If Liang Qing had some good explosives, she would also want to solve the problem directly when facing this door.

Liang Qing figured Baldy and the others would return before dusk, so she didn't stay too long and headed straight for the boys' dormitory.

After climbing over the wall on the first floor, she had just stepped into the dormitory at the end of the corridor when she heard the noise of men coming from the dormitory manager's room. The bald man's loud duck-like voice was particularly prominent.

Oh no, they made this place their base camp and set up camp.

Liang Qing smiled: "That's great. No need to look for it everywhere, it comes to my door."
