Urban Giant Wolf Legend (VIII)
The fighting continued, and the number of players originally stationed at the Medical University continued to decrease. Other players scattered across the city also continued to arrive. Many came with the intention of picking fruit, but were completely unable to withstand the wolves' attacks and quickly died or dispersed.
The air was thick with painful howls and the smell of blood. The remains gnawed by the giant wolf quickly piled up into a small hill, which was then cleared away by the system in the blink of an eye.
Liang Qing and Shi Xiaofeng waited until late at night. The intense team battles had ceased, leaving only a few players armed with advanced equipment still stubbornly resisting. The wolves had also dispersed, and now was a good time to strike.
Liang Qing noticed that in the chaos, the man named Shanye ran to the second floor of the medical school alone with a rocket launcher and hid there.
"The rocket launcher is very powerful, but it only has three rounds of ammunition. Is he planning to fight the three wolves alone?" Shi Xiaofeng said.
Liang Qing stared at Shanye intently, and after a moment, he said calmly, "He's aiming at the laboratory door. I'm afraid he won't hesitate to attack anyone who opens the door now."
"What should we do then?" The two had originally planned to take advantage of the fact that the gate was unguarded and quickly go over to try the password. Now it looked like they might become sitting ducks. Shanye resorted to his old tricks again, hoping to reap the benefits without further ado.
"Leave it to me. In half an hour, I'll cover you with firepower while you go open the door."
Before Shi Xiaofeng could say anything, Liang Qing disappeared like a gust of wind.
——
The blood on his hand had already dried, but it mixed with sweat, causing his hand holding the cannon to slip several times. Shanye cursed and wiped his hands.
The blood belonged to his comrades. The armored vehicle he'd spent so much on was like a piece of paper against the giant wolf, offering no protection at all. Almost exposed to the wolf's sight, he shot the teammate in the passenger seat and pushed him out. This gave him a glimmer of hope.
He wants more, more points, better equipment, higher ranking. He wants to live.
A drop of wet liquid suddenly dripped onto his face.
Is it raining? Shanye looked up, but before he could see clearly, a large bubble of hot liquid fell from the sky.
There was a faint smell of urine in his nose.
Is it human urine?
"Baka!" he yelled in anger.
This noise obviously did not satisfy the little boy. As the last drop of urine fell, he started and cried briefly. It was this cry that activated the magic pacifier.
The mountains and fields were frozen in place.
The last thing he could remember was seeing a white, tender baby with its bare bottom looking at him from the cave on the third floor, a bright red pacifier in its mouth...
Liang Qing tied Shanye up tightly, stripped him of his gear, and threw him down from the second floor. Shanye, awakening from his frozen state, fell into the grass, screaming in pain. The sound attracted three nearby wolves.
Liang Qing was also stunned. She hadn't expected the wolves to arrive so quickly. She surveyed the surrounding terrain and realized she couldn't find a way to escape unscathed anytime soon.
Shanye screamed in agony as the giant wolf devoured him. With only one prey, the other two wolves turned and ran away. The wolf that had eaten Shanye looked larger and more mature, both in size and fur.
It seemed to notice that there were other people in the building, and it tilted its head back to discern a smell in the air that did not belong to the mountains.
It wouldn't take long for it to figure out that there was a human cub in the building. Liang Qing, hiding in the shadows, clenched his fists.
Her actions were faster than the detailed plan in her mind. The wind suddenly rustled in her ears, and when she opened her eyes again, she was holding the bag on her chest with one hand, and the other hand had already grasped the wolf's mane.
She jumped down with her cub and rode on the giant wolf's back.
The burning stench of the beast was nauseating. Liang Qing saw clearly that the wolf under his feet should be the leader of the giant wolves.
It is ten meters long.
The giant wolf immediately realized that someone had jumped on its back. It desperately shook its body and head to try to throw the person off its back, and called all its companions with a wolf howl.
Liang Qing grabbed its mane tightly, feeling like he was riding on a crazy hill.
Soon, the remaining wolves followed the call and came over. Liang Qing glanced at them, his lips curled up. Come on, a family should die in peace.
At first she wasn't sure why all the players were helpless against the wolves. Since it was a game, there must be a key to crack it.
Now standing in the moonlight, she could see clearly that except for the leader wolf which had a thick layer of mane on its back, the other wolves did not have that. Instead, there was a white dot on the back of their necks, like a birthmark.
Perhaps this is their weak spot. However, the giant wolves' height and their attack power make it difficult for players to easily reach this point.
Although they had a strategy, implementing it proved incredibly difficult. Besides the leader's thrashing, which was like a magnitude 10 earthquake, the other wolves extended their claws, attempting to tear Liang Qing off the leader.
A wolf's claws nearly scratched Liang Qing, but she managed to escape by hugging her cub tightly against its mane. Forget attacking the other wolves; just keeping herself steady took all of Liang Qing's energy. She knew if she kept this up, she'd be thrown off the ground, either to her death or smitten.
"Boss, here I come!"
Shi Xiaofeng's voice sounded in the distance.
Liang Qing didn't look up to see him. She heard a dense buzzing sound beside her ears. Through the gaps in their manes, Liang Qing saw that the other wolves who had just been "besieging" the leader suddenly twisted violently in their place.
Electronic bees?
Shi Xiaofeng's electronic bees could carry out targeted attacks. Although their stings didn't sting the wolves, their buzzing was enough to disrupt their hearing and vision. Several bees stung directly into the wolves' eyes. The brief pain and numbness made them irritated, and they stretched out their claws and swatted the air.
The leader wolf was not attacked. It obviously realized the human's intention. It stopped, bared its teeth, lowered its body, and faced the direction where Shi Xiaofeng's voice came from.
It was very sharp in catching the culprit.
We can't delay any longer.
Liang Qing quickly stood up, took out a submachine gun from his bag, used the leader wolf as a stepping stone, and shot at the nearest wolf.
She had less than a second to aim before a string of bullets flew out of the gun barrel and disappeared deep into the white dots of the wolf's fur. Then, the exploding flesh and blood turned into a bloody mist in mid-air. The wolf that had been shot fell to the ground with a thud.
The wolf pack froze for a moment, then the leader suddenly straightened up and issued a sharp warning. The next second, the other wolves scattered and fled.
How clever! Liang Qing gritted his teeth. The second shot, the second wolf fell down. The third shot, the third wolf, the fourth...
As the wolves fled, she killed five of them in one go. The leader, completely enraged, suddenly dropped to its knees. Liang Qing's eyes widened, and she instantly grasped its intention. She kicked off, quickly dislodging herself from the wolf's back.
At the same time, the wolf leader rolled violently on the ground, its tail sweeping across Liang Qing's body. Before she lost her balance, Liang Qing suddenly realized that the doll was still in her chest bag. She struggled to turn sideways and fell heavily to the ground. Her left hand lost consciousness in the severe pain.
Liang Qing slowly raised his head, first confirming that the training bag in his arms was intact, and then looked towards the door - while the leader wolf was dealing with Liang Qing, the other wolves fled in all directions, and Shi Xiaofeng was frantically turning the door lock.
He still needs time.
Liang Qing propped herself up and stood up, a sweet and fishy taste filling her chest. She pulled out Lao Mu's dagger from her Qiankun bag and quickly moved to the side of a wolf lying in a pool of blood.
After being shot in the back of the head and neck, the wolf's skull was shattered into pieces. Liang Qing quickly cut off a whole piece of gum. At this moment, the wolf leader, with red eyes, jumped up and pounced on Liang Qing.
The darkness obscured her vision. Liang Qing used the dead wolf's body as a shield and dodged the attack by an inch. The moment she dodged, she raised her fangs and stabbed them into the wolf's left forelimb.
The wolf's fangs penetrated the limbs for thirty centimeters, and must have touched the bones of the leader wolf. It turned around and wanted to exert force again, but its injured front limbs knelt heavily, blocking its movement.
Liang Qing also paid a price. Because of her dodging and attacking, she was carried away by the giant wolf's powerful inertia, dragged face up for more than ten meters. When she let go, her entire back and head were injured to varying degrees.
The pain was real. As his consciousness nearly blurred with pain, Liang Qing reached out his bloodied hand and touched the little kid in the training bag. He tossed restlessly, trying to crawl out. Liang Qing felt a surge of relief, and patted him to comfort him.
The wolf leader was so angry that he raised his injured leg high, turned around and rushed towards Liang Qing.
In the distance, the door to the laboratory opened. Overjoyed, Shi Xiaofeng immediately turned to tell Liang Qing the news, only to see a horrifying scene—the giant wolf was less than thirty meters away from Liang Qing, who lay on the ground with no chance of fighting back.
The campus lights suddenly blazed brightly. Countless floodlights switched on simultaneously, illuminating the entire school like daylight. Under the glaring light, Liang Qing raised her hand and, through her fingers, caught sight of a dark figure flashing past the control room at the edge of the playground.
Giant wolves are monsters born in darkness. They only move after sunset, and it takes them a long time to adapt to an environment as bright as daylight.
The wolf leader stopped moving, whimpered, closed his eyes, and buried his huge head between his paws.
"Let's go!" Shi Xiaofeng ran over from a distance with a pale face, grabbed Liang Qing and ran towards the laboratory door.
The door of the laboratory opened and closed again, and darkness came again, blocking out the fighting and light and shadow outside.
