Chapter 108 Framed

Jiang He finally left the palace.

He was so bored lying on the couch for seven or eight days.

The emperor was indeed kind to him, letting him live in a side hall of the Ganxin Palace and serving him good food and drink.

The assassin's identity has been confirmed.

They were spies from the enemy country who discovered the emperor's route during his incognito travels and laid an ambush in the vicinity.

There are spies from enemy countries everywhere in the capital.

But no one has ever dared to assassinate the emperor so openly.

Emperor Rongsheng was furious, and all the captured spies committed suicide by poisoning themselves.

"Investigate for me! You must find the mastermind behind this!" Emperor Rongsheng slammed the memorial to the ground.

The ministers kneeling below trembled with fear. "Your Majesty, please calm down. There are enemy spies everywhere in the capital. It won't be easy to track them down."

"If you still can't find the answer within ten days, you don't need to stay in the court any longer!" Emperor Rongsheng turned and left.

After learning about the incident, Jiang He, who had been recuperating at home for a while, decided to volunteer to investigate it.

"Your Majesty! Your humble servant is willing to personally avenge our enemy."

“Jiang Aiqing, you are not well yet, it is not advisable for you to go on this risky journey yourself.”

"Your Majesty! You have granted my wish, that I may personally cut my enemy into a thousand pieces."

The Emperor pondered for a moment. After all, Jiang He had almost lost his life, so his desire for revenge was understandable: "Then go!"

"Thank you, Your Majesty!"

"This journey is fraught with danger, so you must be fully prepared. The enemy is in the shadows while you are in the open, so be prepared and ensure your safety."

The Emperor unusually gave a few more words of advice.

"Your Majesty, please rest assured. I have wandered the streets for many years and am quite familiar with them. It will not be easy for the enemy to harm me."

The implication was that they had fallen into their trap last time because they were trying to save the emperor.

Only by eliminating all enemy spies can we ensure the safety of the capital.

After a moment's hesitation, the emperor granted his request and bestowed upon him a token that allowed him to freely enter and leave the palace.

Jiang He accepted the token, his eyes resolute. He knew the mission was arduous, but for the future of the General's Mansion, he decided to give it his all.

Only when the emperor sees his abilities will the emperor realize his usefulness.

Although the Jiang family members opposed Jiang He's reckless behavior, they were helpless to stop him.

Jiang He personally went to fight to the death with enemy spies; few people would dare to do such a dangerous thing.

A notorious playboy from the capital suddenly becomes the deputy commander tasked with capturing and killing spies from the enemy country.

Even Jiang Zhongyong found this transformation hard to believe.

Let alone people from outside.

People laughed at Jiang He for overestimating his abilities.

Some speculate that the emperor deliberately sent Jiang He to his death, causing the Jiang family's descendants to perish.

"You knew this journey would be fraught with danger, so why did you still volunteer to go?" Jiang Zhongyong asked, puzzled.

There will be plenty of opportunities to make a name for yourself in the future.

He almost lost his life as soon as he arrived at the palace to work.

Does my son think he has nine lives like a cat?

If Jiang He is just trying to show off, Jiang Zhongyong will do everything in his power to stop him.

“Father, though I am not talented, I know the greater good of the nation. Now that Daqing is in trouble, how can I, as a subject, stand idly by?” Jiang He said with a firm expression.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhongyong felt secretly gratified; his son truly lived up to his reputation.

“Good! Since you are so determined, I will not stop you. But you must remember to protect yourself no matter when or where. Our Jiang family cannot be without you as our pillar!” Jiang Zhongyong patted Jiang He on the shoulder.

Jiang He nodded heavily. "Father, don't worry! I will definitely return safely."

Jiang He began working long hours, searching for clues everywhere. Leveraging the connections he had built up over the years as a playboy, he quickly established relationships with all sorts of people from all walks of life.

By chance, Jiang He obtained an important clue—enemy spies had been frequently appearing at a restaurant in the city. Jiang He secretly observed them and discovered that their behavior was suspicious, as if they were plotting something.

Jiang He made a quick decision to investigate the restaurant. However, just as he was about to enter, a mysterious figure quietly approached him.

Jiang He turned around warily and saw a mysterious man dressed in a black cloak, his face obscured. The man handed Jiang He a note that read, "Be careful, there's a trap in the restaurant." Jiang He was startled.

I glanced cautiously at the mysterious man, wondering if what he said was true.

But the other party had already quickly disappeared into the crowd.

Jiang He pondered for a moment and decided to change his plan. He went around to the back of the restaurant to find another entrance. In a secluded alley, he found a back door, gently pushed it open, and sneaked into the restaurant.

A tense atmosphere filled the restaurant as Jiang He cautiously made his way forward. Suddenly, he heard a slight noise and immediately hid. He saw a group of dark figures hurrying past, whispering amongst themselves. Jiang He quietly followed them to the door of a secret room.

It turns out this wasn't a restaurant at all; it was a den of thieves operating under the guise of one.

Jiang He listened intently and vaguely heard words like "plan" and "tomorrow." He judged that this group of people were plotting a major conspiracy.

Jiang He decided to lie low for now, not wanting to alert the enemy. He led his men back the way they came, carefully avoiding the lookouts, and lay in ambush nearby.

On that day, the King of Yu kept his promise.

He personally came to present the betrothal gifts.

Madam Jiang was dumbfounded as she looked at the room full of trunks and chests.

"Wei'er, when did you ask Prince Yu for these things?"

This dowry is far too much.

“It was Prince Yu who wanted to propose marriage,” Jiang Chu replied with a smile.
