Chapter 117 Forcibly Taking the Prince Consort

Jiang Hai was stuck on his way back to the palace.

Today, the top three scholars (Zhuangyuan, Bangyan, and Tanhua) will all enter the palace for a banquet.

Jiang Hai was very happy to see his younger sister.

Jiang Hai was also very happy that he had not let his family down.

Seeing Ye Huan, a hint of surprise flashed in Jiang Hai's eyes. Jiang Chuwei said with a grin, "Third Brother, Ye Huan and I have something to tell you." After saying that, she pushed Ye Huan forward.

Ye Huan blushed, lowered her head, and whispered in a voice barely audible, "Brother Jiang Hai, I...I like you."

Jiang Hai was slightly taken aback upon hearing this, then a smile appeared on his face.

He said softly, "Ye Huan, actually I've always liked you too."

Ye Huan was incredulous. She suddenly looked up at Jiang Hai, a joyful smile spreading across her face.

Really? She must have heard correctly.

Jiang Hai also likes her.

Suddenly, tears streamed down her face.

Jiang Hai was startled and immediately grabbed a handkerchief: "Wipe yourself!"

Jiang Chuwei chuckled to herself.

These two are really inexperienced.

The second and third place winners also enjoyed a good show.

"Brother Jiang Hai, you are very fortunate." The two men smiled.

Jiang Hai's face flushed red, and he immediately mounted his horse: "We'll talk about it when we get back!"

What Jiang Hai didn't expect was that he almost became the emperor's son-in-law at the banquet.

The emperor looked down at the rivers and seas below, a hint of satisfaction flashing in his eyes.

He said, "I have heard that you are not yet married, and my princess is of marriageable age. Why don't I betroth the princess to you?" Jiang Hai was shocked and immediately stood up and knelt down. "Your Majesty, I would never dare to presume to marry the princess."

The emperor laughed heartily, "It's alright. If I say you're worthy, then you are worthy. Prepare to become the emperor's son-in-law."

Jiang Hai's face turned extremely ugly. He knew that if he refused the emperor's bestowed marriage, it would be disobeying the imperial decree.

But he did not want to become a prince consort.

Just as Jiang Hai was at a loss, Jiang Chuwei stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty! This humble woman has something to say."

The emperor looked at her and said, "Granted!"

"My third brother already has someone he loves, and I hope Your Majesty will grant his wish."

The emperor frowned slightly. Could it be that she dared to deceive the emperor in order to avoid Princess Shang?

"Oh? Who is this woman?" the emperor asked.

Jiang Chuwei looked at Jiang Hai, and after receiving his tacit approval, she said, "She is my good friend, Miss Ye Huan."

"Ye Huan?" Why does that name sound so familiar?

The emperor narrowed his eyes, then suddenly remembered.

"Ye Jinhu's daughter?" Emperor Rongsheng asked.

"Yes," Jiang Hai said.

The emperor thought for a moment and concluded that Ye Jinhu would be a wild bull.

The emperor dreaded the thought of anyone daring to compete with him for his son-in-law.

"Well, since the top scholar has said so, I can't very well separate the lovers."

Jiang Hai breathed a sigh of relief.

He was relieved that they had just expressed their feelings outside the palace gates.

The emperor glanced into the distance; Princess Anyang looked pale.

How dare he refuse?

He dares to disobey his father?

Princess Anyang's handkerchief was almost torn to shreds.

Why should she? She's a princess; is there anyone she can't have?

The emperor did not take the matter to heart.

His daughter can marry anyone.

Now that the top scholar has someone he loves, the emperor will not forcibly take her as his son-in-law.

After Jiang Hai kowtowed to express his gratitude for the Emperor's grace, he withdrew.

Princess Anyang was still unwilling to give up, so she ran to the emperor.

"Father, I refuse! I don't want to marry someone else..."

The emperor sighed helplessly, gently comforted his beloved daughter, and promised to find her a better husband.

On the other side, Jiang Hai breathed a sigh of relief.

The banquet was still in full swing.

Ye Jinhu went to the palace for a banquet, but unexpectedly, he got to know about his own daughter.

Ye Jinhu looked at the top scholar not far away and was secretly pleased.

His dim-witted daughter finally did one thing right.

He stared at the top scholar for a long time. This was his future son-in-law. It felt like a dream.

Before entering the palace today, Ye Jinhu was worried about his daughter's marriage.

Unexpectedly, they brought a top scholar back to their residence.

Ye Jinhu beamed with joy.

Who cares if the general's mansion is feared by the emperor?

He will definitely protect anyone his daughter sets her sights on.

When Ye Jinhu saw that the top scholar was finally free, he immediately and enthusiastically pulled Jiang Hai aside to talk.

Jiang Hai answered respectfully, but felt somewhat helpless. He hadn't expected Miss Ye's father to be so warm and welcoming, completely unlike the cold-hearted person he'd been rumored to be.

Ye Jinhu became more and more satisfied as he looked at it.

I immediately decided to invite Jiang Hai to my residence for a chat.

Jiang Hai wanted to refuse, but seeing Ye Jinhu's expectant eyes, he had no choice but to agree.

Princess Anyang, however, refused to accept this.

She fell in love with Jiang Hai at first sight.

No matter who he likes, Princess Anyang will snatch him away.

After the banquet ended, Jiang Chuwei and Ye Huan left by carriage.

Jiang Hai walked to the palace gate.

On the road, someone blocked my way.

Jiang Hai looked up and met a pair of provocative eyes.

Princess Anyang, dressed in red, stood before Jiang Hai: "I have taken a liking to you, so why do you refuse my father's arranged marriage? Where do you place my dignity?"

Princess Anyang was very angry.

When has she ever been treated so disrespectfully?

“Princess! We are complete strangers. I have someone I love. Why can’t I refuse him?”

What Jiang Hai didn't say, and what the Emperor didn't say, was which princess the marriage was to be bestowed upon. If Princess Anyang hadn't come forward herself, how would anyone have known it was her?
