Seeing that Chen's words were becoming increasingly absurd, the old lady quickly changed the subject.
"If Granny Wu misspoke, you can tell Grandmother. Why did you hit her?"
Granny Wu was her confidante; beating her servant showed that she didn't respect her.
Looking at Jiang Chuwei, Madam Lu felt that she was different from usual today and had become difficult to handle.
In the past, she would never have dared to eat her bird's nest.
Jiang Chuwei sneered inwardly, only then remembering to seek justice for her servant.
It seems that bird's nest is more important than a servant.
Jiang Chuwei glanced at Granny Wu.
This lackey won't learn his lesson unless he's beaten.
When has Granny Wu ever been so low-key?
After Jiang Chuwei came in, she didn't dare to say a word.
In the past, if the old lady said anything to her, Granny Wu would have arrogantly added a few more words.
When has she ever taken the young mistress seriously?
Seeing Jiang Chuwei's gaze, Granny Wu quickly lowered her head.
Today, the old lady dared to talk back to her, so Wu Mama dared not risk getting slapped again.
“Grandmother! How dare Wu Mama, a mere servant, criticize her granddaughter-in-law for being unfilial? People who don't know the situation might think that you made your daughter-in-law drag her sick body to pay her respects. If word gets out, won't that leave you with a reputation for being mean-spirited?”
"Your granddaughter-in-law did it for you, and took it upon herself to teach her a lesson. Do you think this servant can or can't be hit?" Jiang Chuwei retorted.
Old Madam Lu almost choked on her breath. "You hit my people, and I still have to say 'good'?"
She narrowed her eyes; what a sharp-tongued mouth she had.
"Grandma knows you are a good person, and you know that Grandma has always been in poor health and is afraid of passing on her illness to you."
Grandmother was worried about you when she heard you were awake, so she rushed to have you come over. She never expected that this scoundrel would offend you like this.
After saying that, she turned to Granny Wu and said fiercely, "If you disrespect the young mistress again, you'll regret it."
Granny Wu quickly knelt down and begged for forgiveness: "Please calm down, Madam. This old servant will never dare to do it again."
Jiang Chuwei saw the two of them, master and servant, singing in unison.
The old lady was indifferent to his life or death, and fearing it would damage her reputation if word got out, she used her poor health as an excuse to distance herself from the situation.
"You dog of a servant, if you misinterpret my meaning again, I'll kick you out first, without the young mistress even needing to teach you a lesson."
Jiang Chuwei understood. It was not her place to discipline the old lady's people; the old lady would handle it herself.
"It's all my fault, please calm down, Madam!" Granny Wu cried bitterly, but she was secretly very pleased with herself.
Next time, let's see if the young mistress dares to touch her again. The old lady won't let this go.
"Get out of my way!" Granny Wu scrambled away.
Madam Lu looked at Jiang Chuwei: "Alright, I'm tired too, you can all go back now!"
She could see that the maidservant beside Jiang was carrying a pile of account books.
I wonder what the Jiang family is up to this time?
We should get rid of her as soon as possible.
What I feared most came to pass.
"Grandmother, there's one more thing, I'll say it while Mother is here."
"What do you want now? You've already been quite imposing today. The old lady stood up for you, what more do you want? If you continue to be so ungrateful, I'll have Yan Ke divorce you."
Chen Yulan was seething with anger.
In the past, this daughter-in-law was always obedient to her, but today she dared to ignore her.
And so he started talking without any restraint.
Jiang Chuwei originally didn't intend to pay any attention to this brainless mother-in-law.
Since she had said she wanted her son to divorce his wife, then Jiang Chuwei shouldn't be rude.
"Donghua, present the account book to your mother."
"Madam, these are the Marquis's account books. Please take a look." Donghua shoved the account books directly into Chen Yulan's arms.
Chen Yulan screamed: "Why are you giving me the account book?"
Over the years, she has become accustomed to a life of luxury, enjoying herself to the fullest.
Before Jiang Chuwei married into the family, she had her hands on the dowry of the deceased Lady Hou, and she was very generous in spending money that wasn't her own.
She was worried about how to manage the household when she ran out of money, but unexpectedly, her daughter-in-law married in with an even bigger dowry.
She's destined to enjoy a life of happiness.
She's not stupid; how could she possibly take back control of the household?
Jiang Chuwei sneered when she saw Chen Yulan shoving Dong Hua away like a plague god.
This is an attempt to make her continue to be taken advantage of.
"Mother, I'm about to be divorced, so it's not appropriate for me to continue managing this household. I'm returning these account books and the matching tokens to you."
Donghua placed the account book directly on the table. Before she could refuse again, Jiang Chuwei curtsied and said, "Grandmother, Mother, I'm not feeling well, so I'll take my leave now."
Chen Yulan's mouth dropped open. She couldn't believe it. She had only said "divorce" to scare her.
How could she have taken it seriously?
"You...you...Mother, look at her..."
Chen Yulan watched Jiang Chuwei's departing figure, too angry to speak.
She must have had a death wish to leave like that.
"Fool!" Old Madam Lu threw a teacup at him.
Chen Yulan dodged to the side.
"Mother, what are you doing?" Chen Yulan said angrily.
Because the Marquis dotes on her, she has no fear of the old lady.
"You idiot, you can't even do basic courtesy. Why didn't you go and see her when she was sick?"
Madam Lu got angry just looking at her; she was utterly useless and far inferior to her previous daughter-in-law.
“My daughter-in-law had no idea she would come back to life,” Chen Yulan muttered.
When Jiang was pulled out of the water, the physician said that she had swallowed too much water and her lungs were severely damaged, and there was no hope of recovery.
Chen Yulan didn't care anymore, she just kept her on medication for as long as she could.
