Chapter 5: The Building of Ashes (5) If you move here, your neighbors will be even more…

The residential building was very quiet in the morning, and the warm sunlight poured into the elevator hall, dispelling the weirdness inside. If you don't think about the corpses in the corridor and the evil spirits behind a certain door, this place is no different from an ordinary community.

Yueya pressed the elevator button and remembered something: "Just a reminder, stay away from 403. There's a fierce guy living there."

The young man with glasses couldn't help but look back: "More powerful than the ghost bride?"

Yue Ya nodded. The elevator arrived, but before the door opened, Fei Fei in his arms suddenly twisted his body and crawled into his pocket, hiding his furry tail.

Yue Ya looked up and the elevator door opened to both sides, and he met the old man standing inside.

"Good morning, it's rare to see a young man getting up so early." The old man waved a palm-leaf fan from time to time, still looking very kind.

The old man's behavior last night showed that he was very aware of the secrets of the community. He was suspicious but did not show any aggressiveness for the time being. Yue Ya maintained his attitude as usual and said good morning before entering the elevator.

The old man chatted with them in a familiar manner, like an elder who cared about them: "Are you getting used to living here?"

Yue Ya replied calmly, "Very good."

The old man lowered his eyes and took the initiative to talk about what happened last night in a low voice: "When we were taking the elevator last night, didn't someone say that the community was haunted? It was only when I got home that I remembered that the haunted wedding room she mentioned was on your floor!"

"Thanks for the reminder," Yue Ya looked at the old man calmly, giving him a chance to tell a story: "Is my floor the only one in this neighborhood haunted?"

The old man thought for a moment and said hesitantly, "There is another thing. I just heard it from others and don't know the details."

"It's okay, I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity."

The old man recalled: "I heard about this from my relatives who work in the property management. I heard that when the property was just taken over, a property management staff member fell from the building and was gone all of a sudden while working. However, no one had moved in at that time, so the matter was quickly suppressed.

"They thought the matter was over, but unexpectedly, on the last day of the seventh day, the property staff worked overtime at night and saw the young man who fell from the building go back to work. He fell from a high building, and there was not a single piece of intact flesh on his body. He was slumped over the table typing on the computer..."

What the old man said was so vivid that the image of the vengeful ghost falling from the building seemed to be right in front of him. Glasses shuddered and shrank silently into the small corner of the elevator.

Yueya asked: "Which building did you fall from?"

The old man shook his head: "It happened a while ago, I don't remember it very well."

"Where is the property office?"

"It's on the second floor of Building 1. If you have any questions, you should go directly to the housekeeper and avoid going there."

Yue Ya thought of the housekeeper in the contact list and suddenly felt something was strange. Could it be such a coincidence?

As they were talking, the elevator had already reached the first floor. Yueya moved to the side to make way for the old man and said, "You go first."

The old man patted his head with his fan and said, "Look at my memory. I forgot to take something. I have to go back. You guys go first."

Yue Ya looked outside. There was an entire wall of translucent glass windows in the hall, and plenty of sunlight came in. He immediately understood that the old man was most likely a vengeful spirit who couldn't bask in the sun and so found an excuse not to come out.

As soon as you get out of the elevator, you can see the players gathered in the rest area. They seem to be familiar with each other.

Glasses scratched his head: "They woke up so early and looked so energetic. Were we the only ones who got into trouble last night?"

Yueya was not surprised: "The people who took the other elevator yesterday were safer than us."

The tall man standing in the center of the players was very perceptive. As soon as Yue Ya and the others appeared, he immediately took the initiative to greet them: "Good morning, do you want to have dinner together?"

Without waiting for Yueya to answer, the tall man noticed the injuries on Glasses and the blood on the soles of their shoes: "What happened to you? Why is this guy injured like this? Where did the blood on the soles of his shoes come from?"

"Two people were killed by the ghost bride last night, on the fourth floor." Yue Ya said concisely.

The relaxed expressions on the players' faces disappeared as this sentence once again dragged them back into the cruel game.

Yue Ya was too lazy to repeat it again, so he asked Yan Jing to tell them the whole story to prevent more people from getting involved.

The tall man was silent for a moment, then said to the other players, "I think we should go up and take a look at the scene. If you are brave, follow me."

These players were very scared, but they also knew that the more they knew, the safer they would be, so they all followed.

Only a gentle girl with a bun stayed behind and walked slowly to Yue Ya: "Let's go to dinner, do you mind taking me with you?"

Yue Ya raised her eyes and said, "Aren't you going to see the scene?"

The girl with the bun-like hair shook her head and counted quickly with her fingers: "What's so good about it? I counted with my fingers and it's safer to follow you. Do you agree?"

Yue Ya didn't care: "It's up to you."

Feifei poked his head out, grabbed Yueya's clothes and climbed onto her shoulders, looking at the girl with the bun curiously, his heterochromatic eyes sparkling with clear light in the sunlight.

The ball-head gave a thumbs up and said, "This cat is awesome. Where did you get it from?"

"I picked it up." Yueya walked lazily into the morning light.

The neighborhood is at least somewhat lively during the day and much more pleasant than at night. They cannot leave the neighborhood and can only go to the living area to find restaurants.

The largest and most conspicuous living area is a fresh food supermarket. Next to it are two small restaurants with very distinctive storefronts. One looks like a Bagua mirror and the other looks like an incense burner, with "warding off evil spirits" clearly written on the doorfronts.

Glasses pointed ahead and said, "There should be cat food in the fresh food supermarket. Let me buy some."

The ball-head smiled meaningfully: "The cat food in the supermarket can't satisfy this little cutie."

Glasses was stunned: "What does this mean?"

The girl with the ball head smiled but didn't answer.

Yueya didn't mention Feifei's special physique, but Marutou saw it at a glance and did not hide his ability. This person is not simple, and it would be very troublesome if he was not one of them.

Making the best use of things is Yueya's principle. He asked Wanzitou: "Let's eat first. Which restaurant should we choose?"

The man with the ball head did some simple calculations and frowned: "The hexagram is a bit strange. I chose the Bagua mirror during the day and the incense burner at night."

"This is the one." Yueya walked straight to the Baguajing Restaurant.

The front door of this restaurant is an automatic sensor glass door. When someone approaches, it will automatically open to both sides and say "Welcome...come here". There is a long pause and some noise between "Welcome" and "come here", which makes it sound like saying "Welcome a living person".

There were only the fat boss and a waiter in the store. They sat behind the counter with their cheeks in their hands, staring at the door.

Seeing someone coming, the waiter rubbed his eyes to make sure he was not dazzled, then he took the menu and greeted them. He saw the glasses covered with black marks, but he was still calm: "Please take a seat, what would you like to eat?"

Yueya ordered a few dishes quickly. After the waiter left, the boss slowly came over to chat with them: "You are new here, did you just move in?"

Just looking at the store, I knew that this boss was something. Yueya followed his words and started chatting: "I just moved in yesterday. The neighbors are too noisy. I don't feel very comfortable living here. Do you have any good suggestions?"

The boss stroked his mustache and raised the corner of his mouth: "I suggest you move out quickly."

Yueya poured him a cup of tea: "You can't move it."

"Then be a blind, deaf and dumb person. This method applies to your friends. As for you..." The boss took a sip from the teacup, looked at Yue Ya, and then at the little white cat sitting on his shoulder: "Why do I feel that your neighbors will be even more uneasy if you move in? I think it won't be long before they can't wait for you to move out."

Yue Ya: “…” Unable to refute.

If he hadn't blocked the barrage, he would have seen the audience praising the boss for his sharp eyes and being able to see through his true nature at a glance.

The boss's words are rough but his point is there. Being deaf, blind and dumb means turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to all the evil and filth. This is the same principle as what Yue Ya concluded: "Don't touch NPCs."

The boss put down his teacup and cleared his throat: "If you promise me one thing, I can give you a suggestion."

"you say."

The boss looked at Fei Fei, spread out his palm, and said pitifully: "Lend me your cat to pet it. My wife doesn't allow me to keep a cat. I haven't touched a cat with this hand for a long time. It's so miserable!"

From the moment they entered the store, the boss kept stealing glances at Feifei from time to time. Yueya thought he had noticed that Feifei was peculiar, but she didn't expect that he wanted to jerk off.

Yueya asked the cat in question for his opinion: "Fei Fei, do you agree?"

Feifei tilted his head and observed the boss as if examining him. The boss sat upright with a standard smile showing eight teeth, as if he was interviewing for a job.

After a while, Feifei jumped in front of the boss, meowed, and lay down.

Life is not easy, Feifei has to perform.

The boss was overjoyed, gently touched Feifei's ear, and said with emotion: "So good, so cute, my heart is melting."

The scene of a grown man holding his heart and saying such things is quite...fresh.

Yueya: "Can I give you a suggestion?"

The boss touched his fat little head, his mood soared, and he said cheerfully: "If someone asks you for money, don't give it to him. It's that simple."

This suggestion sounded a bit nonsensical, and both the man with glasses and the lady were a little confused.

Yueya had a feeling that they would soon need this advice: "Don't think too deeply about it, just remember it."

The waiter had already served the dishes. In addition to the dishes they ordered, he also gave Feifei a small plate of chicken breast. The boss shamelessly stayed and squatted beside her, watching Feifei eat, muttering, "You can't just eat this."

Yueya ordered porridge and side dishes. After eating, they felt much better and felt that life had rekindled new hope. When leaving, the boss looked at Feifei reluctantly and said to Yueya: "As long as you bring your cat, the door of my store is always open to you."

After leaving the restaurant, Feifei's stomach growled. Glasses said in surprise, "Didn't you just eat a plate of chicken breast? Why are you hungry again?"

Yueya said, "It doesn't matter whether it is full or not when it eats that."

Glasses thought simply: "Then let's go buy some cat food. Buy a big bag and keep it at home. It will be enough for us."

"Sure." Yueya walked in the opposite direction of the fresh food supermarket.

Glasses was confused: "The supermarket is over there, where are you going?"

"Property Office." Yueya answered without turning his head.

Glasses was even more confused: "Didn't the old man say that there are ghosts in the property office? Why do we have to go there to buy cat food?"

The ball-head patted the glasses' shoulder and said, "Don't ask so many questions. Just follow me."

When passing by Building 4, Feifei twisted her body restlessly, her eyes fixed on a certain place. Yueya followed her gaze and saw the little girl from last night on the mezzanine floor of Building 4.

A little girl was sitting on a swing in a children's playground, and a smiling old lady was standing beside her, swinging the swing intermittently. This scene should have been harmonious, but the real fear in the little girl's eyes made everything weird.

The little girl also saw Yueya, and she immediately jumped off the swing and ran towards him.

The old lady held the little girl's shoulders and shook her head helplessly at them.

Tears flowed from the little girl's black grape-like eyes. She looked very sad, but combined with the old grandmother's behavior, it looked like a child throwing a tantrum with her parents.

Seeing that Yue Ya was still watching, Yan Jing whispered, "They are educating their children, it seems inappropriate for us to interfere."

"Seeing is not necessarily believing," Yue Ya continued to observe: "Wait a little longer."

His waiting gave the little girl new hope. She suddenly broke free from the old lady's shackles and ran away desperately. She ran too fast and fell to the ground. Her tender palms were rubbed and bleeding.

The old lady chasing behind saw the blood, her eyes suddenly turned red, her kind face became distorted, her skin quickly shrank, black cracks appeared, and a lot of saliva flowed out of her mouth...

"What the hell! There's a ghost in broad daylight!" The man with glasses stepped back in fear, and the other two also looked grim.

Yue Ya didn't even bother to use props, he picked up a roadblock cone beside him and rushed directly into the mezzanine: "Fei Fei, get ready to eat!"
