Chapter 59 Melon Seed Skin

Lin Wei only heard the whole story from Liu Dan in the evening of the next day.

Originally, today was Saturday and the class schedule was relatively easy. She only had to take care of the morning reading and attend two classes before she could enjoy the weekend.

But the second-grade math teacher had a stomach upset in the morning and went to the bathroom six times during two classes, and was almost exhausted. Finally, I couldn't bear it anymore and asked for two classes off, and Tolinwei helped me teach two classes.

Seeing the other person's frowning brows, pale face, and beads of sweat rolling down his hair, Lin Wei couldn't say no and agreed.

After finally finishing the last class of the morning, on the way back to the office, Lin Wei was still thinking about whether to take the children out for a walk in the afternoon.

Although the school did not arrange many courses for her and she had more freedom in her time, it was definitely not comparable to going to work.

In fact, if you don’t cook and eat three meals a day in the cafeteria, you will still have a lot of free time. The big pot meals are convenient and affordable, but the taste is really not that good. It’s okay to eat one or two meals occasionally, but eating like this every day, not only Lin Wei, but also the two children can’t stand it.

Therefore, Lin Wei now eats breakfast in the cafeteria regularly and lunch in the cafeteria depending on whether she has classes in the third or fourth period. She usually cooks dinner at home.

If she eats in the cafeteria in the morning and at noon, she would prefer to have a bigger dinner, so the cooking time would increase accordingly.

In addition, the classes for her three children are still going on, so Lin Wei doesn’t have much free time now. She hasn’t been out for some time.

Going out here does not mean leaving the house, nor does it mean going to far places, such as going to the county to watch movies or go shopping. She has to go to work every day for the former, and even when she is not at work, she may not be able to go to the latter once a month.

Going out here refers to hiking, or simply taking a walk on the beach in front of the family quarters to relax.

Just as she returned to the office, the head teacher of Class 3 came to her and said that the child was not feeling well and needed to be taken to the hospital, and asked her to help take care of the afternoon labor class.

Lin Wei couldn't help but twitch her lips when she heard that.

As the name suggests, labor classes are about letting children do work, and the work is generally divided into two categories: inside and outside school.

Vegetables are planted and watered on campus. The school has set up a vegetable plot behind the office. There are not many kinds of vegetables planted, probably just green vegetables, radishes, potatoes and eggplants. They are all easy to grow and delicious. Then there is cleaning, including cleaning of each class and the campus, which includes all the sweeping and mopping.

There are more tasks to do outside of school, such as planting trees in spring and sweeping fallen leaves in autumn. During the busy farming season, I go to the surrounding brigades to help with work. During the slack farming season, I do work assigned by nearby units, as well as weeding and sweeping the streets.

Anyway, the main purpose of this course is to allow students to combine learning with practice.

Because there is no need for a teacher to lecture, this class is basically attended by students from the entire grade. As long as there is a teacher watching and making sure the children don't get hurt, it's fine.

The person in charge of looking after the children today is Class 3's head teacher, Mr. Qian.

The head teacher of the senior grades is basically the main subject teacher. There are only two classes in each grade anyway, and it is just right for the main subject teacher to teach one class each.

However, there are basically three classes in the lower grades, and two main subject teachers are not enough. After all, it is not easy to be a class teacher. It is too much of a squeeze for one teacher to teach three classes and be the class teacher of two classes at the same time.

If there are not enough teachers for the main subjects, the teachers for the auxiliary subjects will be used to fill the gap. Anyway, there are enough teachers after all the effort is put into it.

Teacher Qian is the assistant teacher. She teaches art and music classes for all grades in the elementary school. Even though she teaches many grades and has to teach two courses, her workload is definitely not as much as that of the main teacher.

The main subjects in elementary school are usually two consecutive periods, and they are held every day. Like Lin Wei, who teaches two classes, she has four classes every day on weekdays except Saturday.

But for elective courses like art and music, each class only has one class per week. There are five grades and thirteen classes in the Military District Primary School. Even if Teacher Qian teaches two elective courses, there are only twenty-four classes a week, which is an average of four classes a day, which is less than Lin Wei's substitute teacher.

Teacher Chen, who teaches the second grade main subject, was hospitalized due to a fracture, another main subject teacher had a stomachache, and the child of the head teacher who teaches the secondary subject was sick again. All in all, the only one who could take over was Lin Wei.

It’s just that, if it weren’t for the fact that this era was all about getting rid of feudal superstitions and all the temples and monasteries were closed, Lin Wei really wondered if the position of second-grade teacher was inherently unlucky.

Having said that, because the three class teachers or their family members were all ill, Lin Wei’s dream of going on vacation early was shattered.

I have to take care of students in the afternoon.

And when you think about it, Saturday, which should have been the most relaxing day for her, was busier than the previous five days.

I can only say that man proposes, God disposes.

Fortunately, we don’t have to work outside the school today. The tasks of the second-grade students are only to clean the classroom and pull out the weeds in a certain area on the campus.

In this way, she only needs to assign tasks and arrange class monitors to supervise, and she will have nothing to do.

All she had to do was stay in the school and go out for a walk from time to time to see how the children were doing and whether anyone was quarreling.

So while she was free in the afternoon, Lin Wei corrected the homework collected in the morning. After she finished, she saw that there was still time, so she wrote a lesson plan.

Just after four o'clock, Lin Wei finished her work and brought the graded homework to Class 2.

The cleaning in each class has basically been completed. The students have gone outside to pull weeds. There is no one in the classrooms. Lin Wei puts the homework book on the class representative's desk and goes outside to the playground.

The playground is much more lively than the classroom. Looking around, it is full of children working hard.

Although there is no requirement for teachers to join in the work, these teachers in the school basically just assign tasks and do nothing during the activity classes. But Lin Wei was a novice teacher, and seeing those sweaty children was inevitably inspired, and she got excited and started working with them.

It's not that tiring to pull out weeds, but it hurts your hands. Plus, there was no shelter on the playground and the sun was shining directly on it. In less than half an hour, Lin Wei's face was sunburned red and her clothes were soaked with sweat.

Fortunately, there is strength in numbers, and before five o'clock, the grass on the playground was almost all pulled out.

Lin Wei looked up and saw it, clapped her hands and stood up, preparing to ask everyone to line up to wash their hands and get ready to go home after school.

But because she had been squatting for too long, and she stood up so quickly, she felt dizzy and started to sway. Zhao Mei, who was squatting nearby pulling weeds, saw this and quickly stood up, supported Lin Wei and asked with concern: "Teacher Lin, are you okay?"

"It's okay." Lin Wei steadied herself, feeling a little embarrassed. She was an adult, but she was not even as good as a little girl. She felt ashamed.

But she just thought about it in her heart, it would be too embarrassing to say it out loud, so she just smiled and thanked Zhao Mei, then clapped her hands to attract everyone's attention and said, "Let's stop here, everyone has worked hard." She called out the name of each class monitor, asked them to organize the class and line up to wash their hands.

After washing her hands, Lin Wei called the Chinese class representative of Class 2 and asked her to distribute the graded homework when she got home, and then she went back to the office.

It was already late and all the other teachers had gone home. Among the three offices in a row, only the one where Lin Wei was had its door open.

Because the homework had been graded and the lesson for next week was almost ready, after entering, Lin Wei just took the bag she brought in the morning, locked the door and walked out.

After walking only a few steps, Lin Wei was stopped by someone. She stopped and turned around to ask, "Principal, what can I do for you?"

Feng Ying walked up to Lin Wei and asked with a smile, "I want to go back too. Let's go together?"

The leader asked if she wanted to go together. Of course Lin Wei would not refuse. She agreed with a smile and walked out while asking, "Why are you out so early today?"

"I'll go home early after I finish my work." Feng Ying answered and then asked, "Why are you coming back now?"

Lin Wei explained: "Ms. Qian's daughter is sick and needs to be taken to the hospital. There is no one to take care of the afternoon activity class, so she asked me to help her."

Seeing the sweat on Lin Wei's clothes, Feng Ying asked, "You not only helped with the class, but also went to work, right?"

"I worked for a while, but not for long." Lin Wei said self-deprecatingly, "Maybe I haven't done farm work for too long. Now I'm not even as good as these kids at doing things."

As they were talking, the two walked to the row where the second graders were. The students who came out of the classroom saw them and greeted them, "Hello, Principal, hello, Teacher Lin!"

Lin Wei has been substitute teaching for some time and can now basically match the faces and names of the students in the class. When those students greet her, she will call out their names and ask them to be careful on their way home.

During this period, Feng Ying never spoke again.

It was not until they were out of the school gate and there were fewer students on the road that Feng Ying said, "It seems you have adapted well."

Lin Wei said: "The children are all very cute."

"Yeah," Feng Ying smiled. "No matter how hard or difficult the times are, seeing these children makes me feel that I can hold on a little longer and get through this."

From the smile on Feng Ying's face, Lin Wei could tell that she really loved children, so she worked hard to create a better learning environment for these children.

These children were lucky to have such a principal when the great movement was in full swing.

Before going home, Lin Wei went to Zhou's house to pick up Mingming and Ruirui.

Considering that the scene might be chaotic while each class was cleaning, Lin Wei sent the two children back during the lunch break and asked Chen Bamei to help look after them.

When Lin Wei arrived, the three children were sitting together eating melon seeds.

I don't know who came up with the idea, but instead of spitting out the melon seed shells after cracking them, they hold them in their mouths and wait for others to crack out the shells as well, then spit them out together to see who can spit farther.

After Lin Wei finished talking to Chen Bamei, she went into the backyard to pick people up at a very unfortunate time. The three children had just finished preparing and they all spat the melon seed shells in their mouths forward.

Lin Wei was certain that at that moment, what was sprayed on her was definitely not just the melon seed shells, but also the saliva of three children.

Although after becoming a mother, the word "cleanliness" has nothing to do with her. Not to mention saliva, her two children have even urinated on her. But Ruirui obviously knew it early. After she turned three, she rarely wet the bed and she didn’t need her help to wipe her butt.

Therefore, it had been a long time since she had wanted to change her clothes immediately like she did now.

Look at the three children again, especially Mingming, who, after discovering the melon seed shells hanging on her pants, instead of feeling guilty and apologizing, burst into laughter.

Lin Wei felt that her fist had hardened.
