Chapter 8: False Kindness

What a pleasant surprise.

I didn’t expect that there was an aunt in the village who understood this.

Lin Su smiled gratefully at the aunt who was speaking, then looked at Qin's mother, "Are you really not afraid of being reported?"

Mother Qin's lips trembled as she angrily cursed, "You have no evidence at all! Whoever has the guts and brain to report this? I curse him to have no descendants!"

"I'm not afraid of you, you shameless troublemaker. If you want to go back to your parents' home, go back. You can't even get any food if you want!"

"Qin Sui, that blind man, married a scoundrel like you, and you're already so arrogant right after you got married..."

Qin's mother walked into the yard while cursing. Her voice faded away but one could still hear that her curses were quite dirty.

Lin Su pretended not to hear.

Arguing is very exhausting. Lin Su felt a little chest tightness and forced herself to thank the aunts who spoke for her.

Seeing that she looked like she would fall down with a gust of wind, the aunts hurriedly asked her to go in and rest.

Lin Su smiled weakly and went in.

Although she felt very uncomfortable, the result was good. Look, Qin's mother just glared at her with a gloomy face, but did not dare to make up any more stories.

Fearing that something might happen if she delayed any longer, Lin Su hurried into the house to pack up quickly. However, when she entered, she found that Qin Yao and the others had already packed up their things and they could just carry them away.

"Then let's go."

Lin Su didn't need to bring anything because everything was there at her mother's house, but after leaving, she still took the key and locked the door of their room, for fear that Qin's mother would come in and vent her anger or take things.

Seeing her anti-theft-like movements, Mother Qin became angry again and wanted to scold Lin Su a few more times, but the dead girl was weak and walked very fast.

Outside the door.

Qin Yao took the things from Lin Su's hand and didn't let her carry Qin Keke, but asked Qin Ni to do it instead.

Lin Su was about to be moved, but Qin Yao seemed to know what she was going to say, and said with a cold face, "Don't be so self-indulgent. I'm just afraid that you will fall to the ground and have to trouble me again."

Although he said it cruelly, Lin Su knew that it was not true.

Qin Yao is a little guy with a tough mouth but a soft heart.

So cute.

Seeing that Lin Su was not angry but smiled with relief, Qin Yao turned his head speechlessly and didn't look at her.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Qin Ni and Qin Keke secretly looked at Lin Su.

She is so weak and yet so strong. She is really a strange stepmother.

After they walked away, the neighbors who were watching started to talk about it.

Some say that Qin's mother is a cruel person who forced her newly married daughter-in-law to go back to her parents' home. Others say that Qin's mother is so cruel that she doesn't even want her own grandchildren.

A small number of people said that Lin Su seemed to be a good stepmother and that Qin Sui made the right choice by marrying her. However, there were also discordant voices, some saying that Lin Su was too weak and could be bullied, and that she was sickly and would not live long.

Lin Su didn't know that she was being talked about. At this moment, she was feeling lucky that she met an old man from the same village passing by with a bullock cart, and they could just get a ride.

Otherwise, if she walked back on her own two feet, she would definitely be seriously exhausted again.

After saying goodbye to the uncle who sent them home, Lin Su opened the gate and happened to meet Grandma Lin who came to open the door.

Seeing them coming back, Grandma Lin asked in surprise: "What's going on?"

"We had a quarrel over there. Grandma, can you take us in for a few days?" Lin Su said with a smile.

Grandma Lin patted her arm affectionately and said, "This is your home. Why are you talking about taking me in or not?"

Lin Su smiled and asked, "Where are you going, grandma?"

"There are a lot of wild vegetables growing at the foot of the mountain. I want to pick some to eat."

Seeing that Lin Su looked a little unwell, Grandma Lin said, "Are you tired? Go lie down quickly."

Lin Su no longer forced herself to stay awake, nodded, and went in to rest.

After Qin Yao put down what he was holding, he asked Qin Ni to look after Qin Keke while he and Grandma Lin went to pick wild vegetables.

Grandma Lin didn't want him to get tired, but the child was very stubborn and insisted on following her without saying a word.

Grandma Lin had no choice but to give up. She met a fellow villager on the way and greeted him. When she saw Qin Yao behind her, she specifically asked who he was.

Grandma Lin answered without hesitation, "My great-grandson."

The villagers immediately understood that the child was from the man her granddaughter had married. When they heard Grandma Lin change her words so quickly, they smiled meaningfully.

Qin Yao had been looking indifferent, but when he suddenly heard Grandma Lin addressing him, his breathing seemed to stop for a moment.

He subconsciously clenched his hands in his pockets and resisted the urge to look at Grandma Lin. He just lowered his head and stared at the ground, as if he wanted to stare a hole in it.

Lin Su drank a few drops of the spiritual spring before resting. After waking up, she felt her breathing was smoother. Seeing that there were still a few drops left, she mixed them in the water tank, thinking that the whole family could drink it to improve their physical fitness.

At this time, Grandma Lin just came back, followed by Qin Yao holding a basket of wild vegetables.

Seeing that he actually took the initiative to carry the basket, Lin Su raised her eyebrows.

Did this kid get it today?

"The wild vegetables are growing well this year. Grandma will make you some cold wild vegetables later." Grandma Lin said happily.

Thinking of the bitter and astringent wild vegetables that grandma prepared, without any seasoning, Lin Su quickly said, "Grandma, I'm feeling better now. Let me prepare the wild vegetables. I've learned a new wild vegetable dish. How about letting you try it?"

Seeing that her face was indeed a little rosier, Grandma Lin agreed, but she was determined not to let Lin Su touch the vegetables.

Lin Su didn't insist either.

After washing the vegetables, Lin Su went to the kitchen to look for ingredients. Seeing that there was still flour, she decided to make wild vegetable dumplings.

First, use the water in the water tank to mix the noodles into a thick paste, put a little salt in the pot, blanch the washed wild vegetables, then take them out, chop them and mix them with the seasonings, and finally put the mixed wild vegetables into the thick noodles and stir.
