Chapter 134 Border Patrol (Part Two)

The captain smiled at him in a friendly manner, and ICE immediately turned his face away, clenching his fingers tightly.

Heimei can take care of herself, but Shuining still needs Jiang Shuyin's help. She braids her long hair, which reaches the ground, into two pigtails, and then twists them into two small buns. That completes the task.

The woman, who was eating porridge, said to her husband, "Look at how she dares to bring a child with her, even though she's a woman herself. When are we going to bring the child over here?"

Her husband glared at her and said, "Is this some kind of nice place? The child is studying at home, what are you sending him here to die??"

The woman sighed, her lips drooping. "I just miss my child. What's the point of studying now? If you can't beat mutants, studying a lot is useless. You might as well learn from us and train to earn money to support yourselves as soon as possible."

For some reason, her husband didn't immediately refute her this time.

Team 033's standard breakfast is plain white porridge with peach shortbread. The porridge is made with nothing but water and rice, cooked until thick and creamy. If you find it bland, you can pair it with peach shortbread, one bite of porridge and one bite of shortbread.

Jiang Shuyin arrived late, and the porridge was still piping hot. ICE's hand was burned red, so Jiang Shuyin quickly wrapped it with ice.

Because releasing superpowers doesn't require shouting, when Jiang Shuyin used her ice-type superpower, everyone assumed that ICE had done it himself.

Jiang Shuyin: "If it's hot, chill it before eating."

ICE added ice to the outside of all four bowls. Jiang Shuyin stirred the porridge evenly, took a sip, and said, "It's almost done. It's only slightly warm."

After Heimei and the other two finished their porridge, Jiang Shuyin taught them how to wash the dishes: "Do your own things yourself. Like me, put the bowls in the water to wipe them clean, and then put them back."

All three children did well. Shui Ning was slow, but washed the bowls the cleanest. Jiang Shuyin stacked the bowls and put them back.

The captain had already led his men to assemble on the side. Jiang Shuyin took the child over, and only then did he begin to speak: "Our mission today is to patrol. We currently have 14 people, divided into four teams to patrol the border. Report any situation immediately. Now, let's begin dividing into teams."

Jiang Shuyin's strength was evident to everyone yesterday, and everyone was eager to team up with her.

Secondly, there's the team leader. They are experienced, have strong judgment and decision-making abilities. Everyone wants to survive, so naturally, they want to team up with someone capable.

The team captain looked at Jiang Shuyin: "Who do you want to be on a team with?"

Jiang Shuyin: "Either is fine."

She preferred to act alone, but considering the children's social skills and interpersonal judgment, she still wanted one or two teammates to serve as role models for the children in learning about people.

Seeing that she genuinely didn't care, the captain assigned her the two brothers with the gentlest tempers, one named Zhang Yang and the other Zhang Kai, both of whom were just adults.

These two brothers are the only ones left in the family; they are relatives of martyrs.

The team leader and the couple formed one team, while the two vice-captains each led a team.

After assigning the people, without saying anything more, they immediately moved in two directions, keeping a distance of two or three hundred meters between each other.

Jiang Shu led the group behind, walking at a slower pace, gradually widening the distance between them.

The two brothers were not talkative and remained quiet throughout the journey.

Heimei and Shuining held hands, and when they saw wildflowers and weeds by the roadside, they would reach out and pick them, then show them to their mother: "They smell so good, Mom! What color are they?"

Jiang Shu taught them to identify the colors: "This is a wild chrysanthemum. The petals are yellow and the leaves are green."

Children are just beginning to understand the world, and they have many, many questions.

For example, why do trees grow so tall? Why does grass never grow very tall? Why are flowers yellow?

Jiang Shu answered each question one by one, and for those she couldn't answer, she would look them up for them.

The two brothers following behind almost thought they were on a picnic and were a little confused.

After walking for two hours, the bracelet received a message from the team leader: Rest for half an hour to replenish energy and water.

Jiang Shuyin took out milk bread and drinking water from her backpack, and gave another portion to the two brothers who were eating compressed biscuits. The two brothers looked at each other and neither dared to reach out to take it.

"Eat it, it's not poisonous."

Jiang Shuyin showed the children how normal people eat.

They swallowed both the porridge and the peach shortbread in the morning, which was actually wrong. Porridge can be drunk or swallowed, but the peach shortbread must be chewed.

The compressed biscuits were really hard to eat. The brothers hesitated for a moment, whispered their thanks, and picked up the bread to chew.

ICE and Black Plum followed suit and no longer bypassed the teeth and tongue to make the throat work directly.

Perhaps because they felt obligated to help, the two brothers became less reserved. When Heimei came over with a small stick to ask questions, they would help answer them.

Afterwards, Heimei asked them, "How many fathers do you have?"

The two brothers were stunned. They exchanged a glance and then looked towards Jiang Shuyin, but quickly looked away before they could even see her.

"Well... everyone is different, we only have one father."

Hei Mei seemed to understand, but not quite.

Jiang Shuyin pursed her lips, feeling like a million grass mud horses were galloping through her mind.

Life here is both monotonous and exciting. People sacrifice themselves every day. In the half month that Jiang Shuyin was waiting for, another batch of new people came to replenish the team. The land here is so thick with blood that no grass can grow.

Because the two brothers were quiet and easy-going, they stayed with Jiang Shuyin and survived until the mission ended. With the arrival of this new batch of recruits, they chose to return to their hometown, use the mission points they were rewarded with to buy a house and settle down.

Jiang Shuyin didn't want to go back; the children had changed a lot during this time.

The ICE students' lifestyles and eating habits, not to mention their fighting techniques and moves, led the captain to repeatedly urge him to join the army.

Shui Ning can talk now, and she can even tie her hair up by herself. Jiang Shuyin felt a little regretful that she could no longer play with her hair.
