It was already eleven o'clock when they arrived at Tian He's house. Her parents-in-law opened the door for her. They were taken aback when they saw Jiang Shuyin, but when they noticed what she was carrying, they quickly reached out to help her take it: "You've gone to so much trouble. You can just come next time. You're Tian He's friend, so there's no need for such formalities."
Jiang Shuyin smiled but did not reply.
She brought gifts to make Tian He proud; if she hadn't brought anything, their attitude would have changed within two visits.
Tian He's in-laws wanted to help her take the cardboard box, but Jiang Shu avoided their hands, saying, "This is for Tian He."
They nodded and led her to Tian He. They knocked on the door a few times, but there was no response. The three of them panicked.
Pregnancy presents numerous risks, and fainting and falling to the ground can cause significant harm to both the mother and the baby.
Tian He's in-laws were also worried about their daughter-in-law's unborn child, so they pounded on the door, shouting, "Tian He, Tian He! Open the door if you can hear me!"
Just as Jiang Shuyin raised her foot to kick the door, the lock suddenly clicked.
Her mother-in-law pouted and muttered, "Why lock the door in broad daylight? Really..."
When Tian He came out with her rosy cheeks, her mother-in-law immediately shut her mouth.
When she saw Jiang Shuyin arrive, she was so excited she almost jumped up: "Why are you here? Come in, come in!"
Grandma Tianhe grabbed her and demanded an explanation: "What were you doing in the room just now? We knocked on the door for so long and you didn't answer. You scared us to death, you know?"
Tian He bit his lip: "I was watching a TV series with my headphones on, and the volume was a bit loud, but I came to open the door as soon as I heard the noise, I just walked a little slowly."
Suddenly, Tian He felt a sharp pain in his stomach and quickly covered it with his hand.
Tian He's parents-in-law dared not say anything more and hurriedly ushered them into the room.
Tian He winked at her; it turned out she was faking it.
As soon as Jiang Shu led her into the room and sat down, Grandma Tian He brought over bananas and a sliced pomegranate: "These fruits are really good. Tian He is so lucky to have such a good friend like you."
Jiang Shuyin: "......"
Tian He saw his mother-in-law out, locked the door, and turned around with a grin: "She used to always barge in suddenly, without making a sound, it was so scary, so I locked it."
Jiang Shuyin nodded, leaned back in her chair, and looked her up and down: "Are you walking like Donald Duck now, trying to be cute?"
Tian He covered his mouth and laughed so hard his shoulders twitched: "What? I only look like this because my belly is big and my legs are so thick they don't close properly. Giving birth is really not easy."
When this was mentioned, she lifted her clothes to reveal her belly: "My belly has gotten really big lately, and I only noticed the stretch marks when I looked in the mirror..." Her voice choked up, and her eyes immediately reddened: "They're so ugly, like watermelon rinds. I've been applying cream to prevent stretch marks, but it's still no use."
Jiang Shuyin didn't know how to comfort her, so she raised her hand and patted her shoulder and back lightly: "It will fade slowly. I'll pay for your laser treatment."
Tian He buried his head in his arms and shook his head: "No laser."
Jiang Shuyin asked hesitantly, "Do you have prenatal anxiety? How long until your due date?"
Tian He's belly looks quite big.
“I have two more weeks left. I was supposed to go for my prenatal checkup today, but my in-laws don’t want to come with me. They say it’s a waste of money since I’m about to give birth.” Tian He couldn’t stop crying. “My legs were swollen before, and Cao Jing used up all his leave. Now he doesn’t have any leave, and I don’t dare tell him.”
Jiang Shuyin had never experienced these things before and didn't quite understand: "What's involved in a prenatal checkup?"
Tian He cried and said, "Right now, we'll do an ultrasound to check the amniotic fluid, heartbeat, and whether there's an umbilical cord wrapped around the neck, etc."
Jiang Shuqi stood up and hugged her: "I'll go with you. Don't cry, won't your head hurt if you cry for too long?"
Tian He nodded: "It hurts, my vision is going black, and my stomach is bloated. Is the baby sensing my emotions too?"
Jiang Shuyin: "I heard my mother say that the child will cry too."
Startled, Tian He quickly wiped away her tears, took a few deep breaths to calm herself, and finally stopped crying. She changed into her prenatal checkup clothes, packed her things, and hesitated for a moment: "The doctors are all on break now, so I can only get an appointment for 2 o'clock."
This is only because fewer people are having children now; in a city with nearly ten million people, getting an appointment for the same day is simply wishful thinking.
Two o'clock in the afternoon? Jiang Shuyin raised her wrist and saw that it was only twelve o'clock, there were still two hours left.
Tian He knew it was still early, so he sat down and picked up a banana.
Once she opened her mouth, she couldn't resist and ate all the fruit on the table, still not satisfied: "I really want something flavorful~"
Jiang Shu gestured with her chin toward the door and asked, "When does your mother-in-law cook?"
Tian He pouted: "I bet they're making it now. It's the same two dishes every day. I'm sick of it."
Jiang Shuyin suddenly stood up and pulled her. Tian He looked up, puzzled, and asked, "Huh?"
"Let me take you out for a big meal, my dining buddy, let's go."
Tian He was overjoyed and chuckled, "Xiao Yin~ you're so kind. I'll tell Grandma not to cook for us anymore."
Pushing open the door, Tian He went to the kitchen to speak, while Jiang Shuyin went to the door to change her shoes.
When driving on the road, I always feel like I've forgotten to say something, but I really can't remember it.
On the way, Tian He used his phone to search for restaurants near the hospital: "Hot pot, barbecue, stir-fries, what do you want to eat?"
Jiang Shuyin: "It's up to you."
Tian He wanted to eat hot pot, but she didn't want the clear broth version, and she didn't dare to eat the spicy version either. She usually only had stir-fried dishes at home, and she had developed a physical aversion to them, so she decided to have grilled meat instead.
Coated in a secret barbecue sauce, the pork belly was grilled on a charcoal-heated iron plate until it was charred and fragrant, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Tian He secretly dipped it in chili powder, but Jiang Shuyin pretended not to see it.
There were few people in the restaurant, and the waiters provided one-on-one service. All they had to do was eat, and the waiters would even put the grilled meat on their plates for them.
It was almost 2 PM when they finished eating at the barbecue restaurant, so they had to wait for their number to be called.
Watching Tian He skillfully use the self-service blood pressure monitor, weigh himself, and register for a number, Jiang Shu felt deeply the hardships women face in childbirth.
When his number was called, Tian He went in, chatted with the doctor for a few minutes, and was given an ultrasound examination.
Normally, people need to have a full bladder for an ultrasound, but ultrasounds in late pregnancy are expedited and do not require a full bladder; you can simply wait for your number to be called.
As soon as Tian He arrived, her number was called. She handed the things in her hand to Jiang Shuyin and said, "Just wait for me outside."
The ultrasound room was quite cold. Tian He lay down, enduring the pain of the probe pressing on her stomach. When she heard the doctor say that the baby was fine, the frustration in her heart immediately dissipated: "Okay, thank you, thank you."
"Okay, call the next one in."
