At dinner time, the kitchen was in an uproar, and people who came downstairs to eat were covering their faces and running outside.
Jiang Shuyin faintly smelled a foul odor in her room. She thought it was the fishy smell she had picked up earlier that day. She took a shower and changed into clean clothes, but the smell was still there. She opened the door, and the stench outside became even stronger.
The chef staggered upstairs, and the two met at the elevator entrance.
The stench that came up with the elevator was so strong that it made it hard to open one's eyes.
Jiang Shu closed her sore eyes, squeezed out two tears, and asked, "What happened?"
"You dare say that? What did you give me? It stinks a million times worse than rotten eggs! My pots are unusable now. Everyone's going out to eat because they think my food is disgusting." The chef was about to burst into tears.
He bought his big pot for 5,000 euros, and now it's really going to break down; the food he cooks in there all rots.
Jiang Shu pinched her nose and said in a low voice, "Take me to see first."
The head chef came to her for help, and the two went straight to the kitchen. There was still one person guarding the kitchen, and when he saw them, he was so disgusted that his eyes wouldn't move.
"Look, it looks and tastes good, but the smell is just indescribable."
The chef scooped a spoonful of soup and handed it to her, but Jiang Shuyin was so overwhelmed by the smell that she kept backing away.
How is this different from the contents of a septic tank?
“I bought this vegetable from a local. The entire ocean is polluted, but this plant is the only one that people can eat without any problems. I bought it to add to my dishes, but I didn’t expect it to smell so awful.” Jiang Shuyin lowered her gaze.
The chef knew she meant well, and pointed to the plate on the cutting board: "You told me it could be eaten raw, so I made a cold salad. It shouldn't have any bad smell."
Jiang Shu led it over and took a bite: "It tastes a lot like seaweed, but this one is a bit crispier."
The chef had already tasted the dish while plating it: "Hmm, this dish is only suitable for eating raw. Cooking it will kill you." As he spoke, he took a few bites in a fit of anger, then looked at the pot that had an unusually strong presence: "Why don't you come and wash the pot with me first? It feels like eating in a toilet. No, even a toilet doesn't smell this bad."
The kitchen's ventilation system was always on, and when people returned from eating out, they could smell the stench from hundreds of meters away. People on the small boat next to them pinched their noses and laughed, "Who's cooking seaweed again? It stinks!"
"Nine times out of ten it's that new big ship. Foreigners don't know anything. Yesterday, a few of them offended that group of thugs and refused to pay protection money. They had two of them dragged into the water and drowned. Later, it was discovered that they were foreigners, which made things even more complicated. Now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also coming over. The next episode will be even more exciting."
"What country were those foreigners who drowned from?"
"I heard it's country A. It might lead to World War III."
"Well, I guess I'll have to stock up on some dried seaweed then."
When Jiang Shu went to meet the political review team, she found that all the small boats around her had disappeared. She thought they had gone home after finishing their market trip.
After saying goodbye to Lisson and his group, she took a sea bus to the nearest land. The two cars of the political review team were parked not far away. She took one of them to get her own car, while the political review team went to the convenience store owner to go through the formalities.
After getting into the car, Jiang Shuyin took out the seaweed and introduced it to the middle-aged man: "This is seaweed that has not been infected by the virus. I want to send it to the research institute in Hangzhou. Could you please wait for me in Hangzhou?"
The middle-aged man nodded: "We're thinking the same thing."
"The leaders ordered people to buy up 40 kilograms of seaweed from local farmers, hoping the research institute could give us a surprise," explained a young juror standing nearby.
Unlike her previous attitude, she even gave Jiang Shuyin a friendly smile.
Jiang Shuyin smiled and said, "The Hangzhou Research Institute is quite responsible. My first mission was to Hangzhou. I was very scared when we were capturing mutants. You could get a container for every mutant you sent to the institute. There were so many people lining up to get one."
It was only half a year ago, but now when I think back on it it feels like it happened several years ago.
"Hangzhou is a famous historical and cultural city, and now it has the advantage of having talents from Shanghai, making its influence among the top in the country." The middle-aged man joined the conversation, and seeing Jiang Shuyin looking at him, he smiled and said, "This is not a work setting, and we are not superior and subordinate. We can talk about anything that is not related to work."
The middle-aged man was a very talkative person. He first introduced himself to Jiang Shuyin: "My surname is Liu, and my given name is Dan, which means New Year's Day. Hangzhou and Anshi are both cities that have risen very quickly. Before, who knew where Anshi was? Now, not only people in China know about it, but people abroad also know about it."
I used to tell my friends that people nowadays aren't lacking in effort, they just lack luck and opportunity. Anshi is a living example; it was all taken over by a flood.
Later, that kid Lu Qiuying desperately tried to secure policies and resources, turning Anshi into a paradise, attracting talented people to settle there with their families... The subsequent actions were even more astonishing. The old and powerful Shangguan family had actually established a presence in Anshi before the apocalypse. Did they have some kind of clairvoyance? Now, the young master of the Shangguan family has risen to the position of vice mayor, with a bright future ahead of him.
Upon hearing the name Shangguan again, Jiang Shuyin was able to remain expressionless.
Admittedly, the other person is an exceptionally talented individual and wouldn't want a girlfriend who knows nothing. It was probably just a fling back then.
Jiang Shuyin didn't take it seriously, and she certainly wouldn't bother him after he had achieved success.
She probably won't turn on that phone with the contact information she added.
If it weren't for this leader surnamed Liu, she wouldn't have known that there were so many stories behind the city she lived in. Before, at home, she had only heard Jiang Jianli mention Mayor Lu as a handsome man, and how many women wanted to get close to him, and so on.
Because no one in my family is involved in politics, I am very isolated from macroeconomic information.
