Chapter 183 Snow Disaster (Part 1)

She missed the first patrol team's turn, so she went in the second.

Upon arriving at the destination, she saw Tian He's husband, Cao Jing, who greeted her first: "Jiang Shuyin." He then introduced her to his brother:

“Fang Dongwei, Lu Cheng, our search team has been transferred here to fully cooperate with you. If you don’t lead the team today, we will do whatever you say.”

Fang Dongwei and Lu Cheng had heard Jiang Shuyin's name more than once. The boss even said that he was able to become the team leader because of Jiang Shuyin's influence.

No matter how you act in public, just be polite to this person.

Since they were acquaintances, Jiang Shuyin decided to play it safe: "You guys do what you want, I'm just here to hang around, Cao Jing, lead the way."

Cao Jing didn't refuse and showed her the route he had planned in advance, as well as emergency response measures, transportation methods, etc. Jiang Shuyin glanced at it and knew that he had put in a lot of effort. His eyes were dark and swollen, probably because he hadn't slept all night for this plan.

Jiang Shuyin feels quite at ease with someone like this, whether he's a teammate or her best friend's husband.

"Let's do it your way. You guys drive, I'm going to sleep a little longer."

The patrol car's passenger seat could seat two people, but Jiang Shuyin had the 1.8-meter-long back seat all to herself. Cao Jing finally felt relieved when he saw that she was really asleep.

Tian He is right, Jiang Shuyin is still the same Jiang Shuyin.

The car was quite quiet. Cao Jing and the other two didn't speak for fear of disturbing her. Only the traffic radio, used to check road conditions, was still on, but the volume was turned down to the minimum, more like a lullaby.

The snow continued to fall heavily as it circled the city.

As the car rounded a bend, the blinding white scene before Cao Jing made his brow furrow, and he slammed on the brakes to stop the car.

As soon as I got off the bus and my feet touched the ground, I realized something was wrong.

When I went out, there was only a thin layer of snow, but now it's up to my ankles and there's no sign of it getting lighter.

This is Anshi.

The last time it snowed like this was in 2008.

That year, a large-scale snowstorm struck southern China, with almost every province experiencing severe damage, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people. The economic losses amounted to 111.1 billion yuan.

Cao Jing still remembers queuing up with his parents to fetch water from a well in a nearby village.

This is troublesome.

Sure enough, by the afternoon, every citizen had received a yellow alert text message.

The people on the farm were so busy they barely had time to breathe, and they were sweating profusely even in sub-zero temperatures.

The task force remains unchanged; it's not yet time for them to play a role.

Jiang Shuyin gets off work at eight o'clock in the evening. The temperature is the same inside and outside. When she gets home, she has to take off her cotton-padded coat and put on a fleece-lined pajama jacket.

Zheng Lanxiang heated up the cold food in the pot and her voice came from the kitchen to the living room: "Will you drive Ace to school tomorrow? When I went to pick him up today, the snow was up to my knees. My old leg couldn't take it and it still hurts."

"Okay." Jiang Shuyin winked at Ace when she saw him secretly glancing over.

The relentless snowfall delayed Mayor Lu's long-awaited high-tech zone project. Anshi City doesn't produce the necessary materials, and railway, highway, and civil aviation transportation were disrupted. In addition, the large population put varying degrees of pressure on electricity, telecommunications, communications, water supply, and heating.

Someone had already sent a message to the mayor's mailbox about the food shortage. Lu Qiuying grabbed a handful of medicine from the table, put it in his mouth, and drank it down with warm water. There was still a handful of medicine left to take after the meal.

Shangguan Chen couldn't stand it anymore and took a stack of documents from the mountain on his desk: "You'd better hold on, or someone will suspect me of poisoning you."

Lu Qiuying is a direct descendant of a top-tier family. He is tough yet courteous, and his presence is pleasant to be around. Shangguan Chen doesn't want to make a move against such a person.

Lu Qiuying was in very bad shape. She had just dyed her hair a couple of days ago, and now a patch of gray hair had grown back. Her face looked much older than her age; she looked like she was in her sixties or seventies even though she was only in her early forties.

She didn't respond to Shangguan Chen's words, but instead half-jokingly asked, "I remember you're not married yet, right? What if you accepted my niece's proposal..."

"It's not appropriate, please stop talking." Shangguan Chen rarely interrupted others. Lu Qiuying smiled and asked, "You have someone you like?"

Shangguan Chen looked down at the document and gave a soft "hmm".

Lu Qiuying, taking a break from his busy schedule, looked up at the young, thick black hair of the man beside him, and his smile deepened. It seems that it is true that a man will not refuse a woman introduced by his elders or superiors if he has no one in his heart.

His deputy mayor was a contradiction; it was hard to guess what kind of person Shangguan liked.

"That project in the High-tech Zone is a pity. No matter how hard we rush it, it will take at least three months to complete. Now that it's snowing heavily, it's hard to say."

"All we can do now is reduce casualties and losses. The farm is the top priority. I'll go there."

Lu Qiuying nodded slightly: "I really can't get away. There are video conferences from the province one after another. After coordinating and reporting, I have to deal with the problems below. Your sister-in-law hasn't seen me for half a month."

Shangguan Chen paused for two seconds, then said calmly, "Those in positions of power should fulfill their responsibilities."

The person he wanted to see was someone he didn't even dare to think about.

————————

The atmosphere must contain relatively cold ice crystal nuclei, and snowfall can only occur after encountering sufficiently strong, moist, and cold air.

Meteorologists studied the cause of this snowfall and found that it could be traced back to the changes and movements of the sun.

Ocean geographers say that this year's ocean currents have also changed, starting from the center of the Pacific Ocean. Warm currents that were originally close to my country have shifted, resulting in a higher chance of snowfall across the country.

The scientific astronomy station also provided research results showing that the sun has undergone three changes this year, twice coming close to Earth and once moving away.

Taking all of the above into account, the conclusion is alarming. This snow is unlikely to stop anytime soon. After discussion, the decision was made to send the information to the public via text message so that everyone can prepare for long-term disaster prevention.

Shangguan Chen also went to the farm in the afternoon, and was so busy that he could only spare one clerk to pick him up.

Even with greenhouses built, the temperature inside the fields kept dropping. Minister Hu temporarily dispatched fire-type ability users to help, and only then did the number of vegetables that had frozen to death slowly decrease.

The public's enthusiasm for stockpiling vegetables remains high. As soon as the vegetables are harvested, people start bagging them and truckloads of them are hauled away.

Shangguan Chen saw this and planned to provide precise planning indicators for each community down to the household level, implementing special policies for special times.

Upon entering the greenhouse, Shangguan Chen immediately spotted Jiang Jianli. The father and daughter didn't look alike at first glance, but from certain angles, they could still see some resemblance.

"That's our Section Chief Jiang, who has water-based abilities. He's heating the water so it won't freeze and damage the roots after being planted." The clerk noticed that the leader was looking in that direction intently and felt she should say something.

Shangguan Chen knew that Jiang Jianli had remarried and had a bad relationship with his ex-wife and daughter. Upon hearing this, he looked away and said, "Go to the aquaculture area."
