On the last Sunday before returning to work, Jiang Shuyin slept until she naturally woke up. She slipped on her slippers and went out to see that the breakfast left on the table was just plain porridge. She frowned in disgust, changed her clothes, and prepared to go out for a nice meal.
"Mom? Mom?" After calling twice without getting a response, Ms. Zheng Lanxiang was most likely out on a date again.
She's completely smitten with this tall, handsome old man. He hasn't come home yet, even though I knocked on his door this morning to say hello and that I was going to buy groceries.
What vegetables can take all morning to buy?
She went for a walk but didn't see anyone. She wandered around until she reached the entrance of Shaxian Snacks. She was craving the fried rice she had eaten at the stall the day before yesterday. The vendor stayed home to take care of his children on weekends and didn't open until 5 pm. The taste of Shaxian was similar but it was too far away, so she decided to make do with this.
Upon entering the store, I was struck by its unusual nature.
There are even people wearing suits and ties eating wontons in the store, and all the nearby coffee shops have closed down?
After glancing at it twice, I told the owner, "Fried rice plus a steamer of dumplings, please eat here."
At 10 a.m., there were few people in the shop. Jiang Shuyin sat with her back to the people and couldn't see outside. The food at Shaxian was served quickly. The gas stove roared and the stir-fried noodles and steamed dumplings were served together.
She habitually pulls out the novels she's been reading recently to accompany her meals, reading while she eats.
This Shaxian snack shop wasn't big. The owner was alone in the kitchen and didn't like to talk. The only people in the whole shop were whispering behind him. Jiang Shuyin had sharp hearing and stopped when she heard what they were saying.
The more I hear terms like "novel," "author," and "monetization," the more familiar they seem.
"Were we tricked? It's already 10:30 and they still haven't arrived. We even came early on purpose."
“Advertisers don’t have money to advertise, authors can’t keep going because of low earnings, and readers are suffering from a lack of books. It’s a vicious cycle. I have to take this investment. I’ll wait here today, and tomorrow I’ll go into the neighborhood and look for books door to door.”
The person speaking next was very imposing.
Jiang Shuyin was really curious, so she turned around and asked, "What exactly do you do?"
These men had been observing her closely, and when she asked, they adopted a "better to kill a thousand enemies than let one go" mentality and started to lie: "We run a website, a novel website. Do you read it?"
Jiang Shuyin nodded with great interest: "Yes, I can't even eat in peace without novels."
The group exchanged glances and formally introduced themselves: "Here's the thing, I'm Wu Xinyang, the project manager for Tudou Novels. I'm here to discuss business. The other party is staying at Anjiang Mansion, but they might be delayed and haven't arrived yet. We plan to wait here for a while. Have you read anything on Tudou?"
Jiang Shu was startled. She had not only read novels on Tudou, but also written them. Once upon a time, she dreamed of writing masterpieces and being noticed by editors... It was all just a dream.
"I've seen it. What new activities are you planning?"
Upon hearing this, the manager became suspicious: "What activities have you participated in?"
Jiang Shuyin chuckled: "I basically don't participate in activities; I just let things take their course."
"Would you be interested in participating in our new activity to cultivate your favorite authors? If the copyright is sold, you can get 5% of the revenue. During the process, you only need to pay the authors basic living allowances in mission points. You can cultivate multiple authors. Think about it?" The manager immediately came up with an activity on the spot. As long as he could attract investment, he would go back and form a team to work on this project.
Jiang Shuyin was tempted. She was really suffering from a reading slump lately, with no good books to read, and her heart was racing.
Reading novels can be really addictive. She has collected the works of about ten authors and feels she can afford to do so. She picked up where the manager left off and continued, "What if an author stops updating?"
The manager quickly replied, "The basic living allowance task points will be settled next month. If there is a break in updates, we will not issue any more. We will issue it again when we have updated and made up the word count. Don't worry about that."
If the author stubbornly refuses to write, he will hire a ghostwriter to finish the book.
From the perspective of both a reader and an investor, Jiang Shuyin is satisfied.
From the author's perspective, Jiang Shuyin muttered under her breath: "A cunning old fox."
"Then let's exchange contact information. I'm interested."
The manager refused to let the lambs go; getting the wool in his hands was the real goal. After a lot of effort, he successfully got Jiang Shu to give each person 1,800 task points, for a total of 9,000 task points transferred.
Upon hearing the crisp sound of the payment being credited to her account, the manager warmly escorted her to the entrance of the residential complex before stopping and giving her a respectful look.
After Jiang Shu led him around the corner and left, the manager beamed with a big smile and exclaimed, "I'm a genius! This trip was definitely worthwhile."
Just then, someone came out of the residential area. The manager glanced at him and subconsciously labeled the person who caught his eye. The person walking towards him looked exactly like a male protagonist from a period novel—a bit rough and wild, but very loyal.
The other person's long legs moved alternately, his steps were steady, and his speed far surpassed that of others. The manager walked behind, as if he were tailing him, and they walked into Shaxian together.
The manager was startled when he saw the man sit in his seat.
"Mr. Xie?"
Xie Yin: "Manager Wu, 90,000 task points."
Manager Wu was overjoyed. These 90,000 task points were more than the previous 1 million. He could do so much with them.
The client is being so generous with the money; they must have something in mind. Thinking about this, I started to feel uneasy, but I was still happy.
"With this money, we can give you 15% of the shares. We can also organize a separate essay contest for you, how about that?"
Xie Yin paused for a moment, then operated his phone to open his complaint interface and show it to Manager Wu.
Manager Wu scrolled through the comments; they were all reader reviews, clearly intended to protect the author. Given that this novel was a female-oriented romance, was he standing up for his wife?
Xie Yin: "The issues I reported have not been addressed to this day. I am not satisfied with your attitude. Please resolve this issue first."
Manager Wu picked up his phone and contacted his department to have the malicious comments deleted.
Money talks, and efficiency is phenomenal.
Two minutes later, Xie Yin received an in-system text message and then transferred the money.
He hesitated for a moment before signing the agreement and asked, "Will it be valid to put someone else's name on it?"
Manager Wu was stunned: "It's valid if there's a power of attorney."
Xie Yin did not sign the body's name.
After Manager Wu returned, he saw in the backend that the author account maintained by the sponsor had not been logged in for a long time. He originally thought it would be online within a few days, but it never came online.
He was getting a little anxious. If the other party didn't intend to make a living from writing, would Mr. Xie withdraw his investment?
