On the way, they encountered a waiter who brought Zheng Lanxiang and her child up. Xiao Youliang thanked him repeatedly and habitually took his hand to walk back. Jiang Shuyin raised an eyebrow when she saw this.
Zheng Lanxiang flinched and quickly pulled her hand away, her voice barely audible: "So many people are watching."
Xiao Youliang thought to himself: What's the big deal? We're getting married soon.
However, Zheng Lanxiang hid her hand from him, so there was nothing he could do.
Qingwu walked to her mother's side and let the two elderly people whisper to each other from behind.
Back in the private room, the atmosphere really warmed up.
Xiao Youliang acted as the introducer, introducing his own people to Zheng Lanxiang's side one by one. All the old comrades-in-arms who could come had arrived.
Guan Xiaojun's family should be counted on Zheng Lanxiang's side, otherwise the disparity in numbers would be too great and wouldn't look good.
Zheng Meixiang didn't have time. The potatoes in the field were ready for harvest. If she waited a couple of days, the price would be very different. After harvesting the potatoes, she would start planting summer rice. After finishing all the farm work, she wouldn't be able to find time to come to the city for fun for at least half a month.
Xiao Youliang was anxious, so Zheng Lanxiang had no choice but to wait until her second sister came next time and then invite her second sister and Lao Xiao to have a meal together separately.
After everyone was introduced, they said to sit wherever you like, but everyone consciously sat down according to their relationship to each other and their seniority.
Jiang Shu led Xie Yin to her left, and arranged Xiao Yin to accompany her on her right. Her biological mother sat opposite her, with Xiao Youliang as the main host.
"Xiao Yin, may I call you that? I'm older than you, just call me Sister Yin. My dad praised you highly on the phone before, and now that I see you in person, I know it's all true."
Xiao Yin is Lao Xiao's only daughter, born when he was twenty. Now approaching fifty, she is almost a grandparent and speaks with a unique charm that comes with age.
Jiang Shuyin felt comfortable sitting with her: "Sister Yin, you can call me whatever you want. I don't talk much, and I don't mean anything by it. I've always been like this since I was little."
Xiao Yin smiled and said, "I'm the complete opposite of you. Sometimes I talk so much that my dad hits me with the sole of his shoe." As she spoke, she pointed to the two of them across the street, "Look at those two, they're like young people, still shy."
To be cruel to his deceased mother, Lao Xiao has probably found true love this time.
Her biological mother died of illness in her early fifties. Old Xiao did his best and did everything he could, but he still couldn't save her.
Her parents were from the same county and met through a matchmaker. For the first seven years of their marriage, her father held a low-ranking position and was in the military training. He sent half of his allowance to his grandparents and the other half to his mother.
I only get a vacation every few years, and I missed it when my child was born. When I was little, I even wanted to stab a strange man when I saw him in my house.
Later, when he was able to join the army, Lao Xiao was always busy, but at least he could see him every month.
The couple had been estranged for so many years, and had never written letters or kept in touch. There was no affection between them; they were just living together out of convenience.
Old Xiao was home for a day off, and the couple barely exchanged a few words. His mother was afraid that Xiao Youliang would look down on her for only having a daughter, so she never looked up. She did whatever Old Xiao said, accepting everything without getting angry.
When her mother was about to fall ill, the overall situation stabilized, and Lao Xiao's work became relatively less demanding.
However, the couple had long lost the passion and restlessness of youth, and they were not used to sleeping together, so they could only fall asleep in separate rooms.
It wasn't until her mother fell ill that Xiao Youliang started acting like a husband, doing chores like getting medicine and cooking. Xiao Yin, on the other hand, was already married and couldn't contribute financially or physically.
There's really no one to blame but yourself.
Without Zheng Lanxiang, she wouldn't have seen what her father, this young lad, would look like. Everyone has their own fortune; let nature take its course.
"Xiao Yin, Xiao Yin, these two names are quite similar. Why don't you two offer a toast to each other's relatives?" said Guan Xiaojun's mother-in-law, acting as a go-between between the two families. In such situations, it's important to foster closer ties between the two families.
Jiang Shu poured herself a glass and then poured one for Xiao Yin. They walked to their respective parents from opposite sides.
After carefully considering a few kind words, Jiang Shuyin downed her drink in one gulp right in front of Xiao Youliang. Xiao Youliang clapped his hands and said, "I'll have two daughters now, it's double blessing! Cheers!"
The noise was quieter on the other side, and Zheng Lanxiang and Xiao Yin also had a drink.
Dishes were served one after another, in quick succession, so fast that it was hard to keep up. After the meal, we went to Zheng Lanxiang's house, where the two elders would live from now on.
Zheng Lanxiang drove back, and Jiang Shuyin, fearing she would get emotional, asked Qingwu to keep an eye on her.
Back in the residential area, Xiao Yin and Guan Xiaojun were already there, talking outside the courtyard. When they saw them return, they moved aside to make room for their car.
Jiang Shuyin parked the car, opened the door, and invited the person in.
Zheng Lanxiang arrived late and called out, "No need to take off your shoes, it's the first floor anyway."
Xiao Yin also liked the first floor. Look at the flowers in the yard, blooming so beautifully, the soil underneath still damp, and two rows of chili peppers planted in the corner of the wall, with green peppers already hanging from them, looking very pleasing.
There are stone tables outside for drinking tea and eating, which can seat four or five people. At this time, it is still sunny outside, so people go inside to sit.
Xiao Yin's daughter, Yang Chu, is only four years younger than Jiang Shuyin, and her son, Yang Yu, is about the same age as Qing Wu. The little boy likes to play with his peers, and Qing Wu was struck up a conversation with him: "How old are you? I'm twelve, in sixth grade."
Qingwu looked up: "I'm seven years old, in first grade."
"My God! You look older than me, but you're only seven years old. You're sure to grow really tall. I'm so envious of you. My mom is worried I won't grow tall, so she always makes me exercise and take calcium supplements, and even takes me to the hospital for growth hormone injections." Yang Yu could pour out his grievances for three days and three nights. He probably takes after his mother; he talks a lot.
Qingwu was also very talkative, and the two had a good chat.
"These people are so boring. Come to my room and I'll show you something fun."
"Can I bring my sister? She's not fun either."
