After returning home, Baoping relayed the saintess's words to his family, mimicking her expression and tone.
After carefully observing, Zixin only said to Baoping, "Don't go out recently."
Changji looked at his second brother with a worried expression. Baoping knew the importance of the matter and nodded in agreement.
As the Holy Maiden said, the clan's patrols became increasingly tight, with twice as many merfolk patrolling as before. They also restricted merfolk from going out and conducted thorough checks on those entering, allowing no concealment whatsoever.
Li came over and scratched his hair in frustration in front of them: "How am I supposed to fish and make money like this? I don't know how long they're going to keep causing trouble. I'm always being controlled by those two old hags, and they're always trying to cause trouble. I've had enough. I really want to leave the tribe and live outside."
"Watch your words!" Changji warned in a low voice, "There are ears everywhere."
Li sighed heavily and lay helplessly on the sofa: "Lin went out to gather herbs and hasn't come back yet. She definitely won't be able to get in today."
Lin is the only female merman among the nine children who has been separated from her family. She is timid but kind-hearted and has a unique talent for learning pharmacology. She has also cultivated a medicinal field within her tribe. However, after arriving in the new world, the mermen in her tribe are experiencing physical discomfort and more and more difficult diseases. Lin must find new herbs to develop a prescription.
She goes out every three days, so this time it might not be a coincidence.
"Perhaps it's because of Xiang Xie; she is the clan chief's daughter."
Since Lin's medicinal herbs have benefited everyone and received much praise, Xiang Xie felt that her flowers were being noticed by Lin, so she kept making things difficult for Lin.
Li swished his tail on the sofa and snorted coldly: "The clan leader's three good daughters are all no good."
Changji took a deep breath in exasperation. These three were also their own older sisters. What exactly had the clan chief and the high priest taught them?
"Actually, Meng Shen and He Hua aren't that bad, it's just Xiang Xie, he's like a madman." Wen Le suddenly spoke from the window, startling everyone inside.
Zi Xin frowned: "Why are you all here?"
This small, dilapidated house can't even accommodate five mermaids.
Wenle came in: "I saw some merfolk being stopped outside their tribe. They were dragged around and searched before being allowed in. They were all arguing. I think I also saw Lin."
Li and Baoping ran out to look, but they didn't see Lin.
......
“I remember that the Merfolk originally lived around here.”
After swimming back and forth for a long time, Jiang Shuyin still hadn't found a spot, and had exhausted most of her energy, proving that swimming really can help with weight loss.
She relaxed and sank down, sitting on a rock.
Xie Yin gently tapped her forehead: "Use your mental power to see."
Jiang Shuyin suddenly realized, closed her eyes, awakened her mental energy, and urged it to go out and investigate.
She encountered a barrier less than 300 meters away, which her mental energy could not penetrate. She stretched her mental energy into a net and discovered that the barrier extended for hundreds of miles.
After withdrawing her mental energy and calming herself down, Jiang Shuyin looked at Xie Yin: "So the place I'm looking for is right under my nose. I need a way to get in without alerting them."
Xie Yin took her hand, their fingers intertwined, and led her to the barrier to dispel her humanoid form. He then enveloped her and pushed her along.
After entering, the black mist in front of Jiang Shuyin gradually dissipated, and the last bit of black mist in front of him transformed into his hand.
Xie Yin: "They're in."
Jiang Shu looked back and saw that the colorless and transparent barrier was actually a shimmering blue from the inside, with many strange runes engraved on it and light flowing within them.
“Words containing truth can enhance and solidify abilities, but they require bloodline inheritance, which you cannot learn.”
Jiang Shuyin: "......"
The two did not try to conceal themselves after entering, and they did not encounter any lone merfolk along the way, with the seaweed swaying forlornly.
Something felt off, but her intuition gave no warning. Jiang Shuyin walked along by instinct and suddenly heard a clear, melodious cry. The voice was so moving that Jiang Shuyin felt like crying too.
Who's crying inside?
The sound came from inside the cave, and Jiang Shuyin called out towards it.
The crying stopped abruptly, but there seemed to be some panicked noises.
"I am Lin."
It was a young girl. Jiang Shuyin guessed her identity and coaxed her out, "It's too dark inside. Can you come out and talk to me?"
I thought she would have to say a few more words, but she actually came out. She was a female merman with blue hair, blue eyes, and a blue tail. She had the common appearance of a merman, but what made her special was that her face was different from the three-dimensional features of other mermen. Her face was soft and her appearance was delicate.
Jiang Shuyin took a liking to him at first sight: "I am Jiang, and this is Xie. We just arrived here."
Lin stared blankly at her, then his gaze shifted downwards and fell upon two pairs of legs. Startled, he quickly leaned back and exclaimed, "You...you...you're human?"
“Yes, I’ve been here before, but I left because I found something unpleasant. Now I’m here to visit the children I left behind. I heard they’re not doing well.” Jiang Shu answered directly, staring at Lin’s expression, trying to figure out if she was a merman from the clan leader’s side.
Lin had only learned from Li two days ago that her mother was human. Hearing Jiang Shuyin's words, she couldn't help but think more. She looked up several times, but still didn't dare to speak.
Jiang Shu's eyes darkened, and she smiled, "Don't worry, I'm not here to sabotage you, but to join you. Good child, take me with you."
Lin's eyes suddenly reddened, and she nodded obediently, leading the way. Every time she swam a certain distance, she would look back to see if Jiang Shuyin was keeping up. Even when she saw the patrol team, she still felt like she was dreaming.
"Lin! Who's following you?!" The patrol team immediately went on alert, the chieftain's words still echoing in their ears: "If you capture a human, kill them on the spot."
