Chapter 64 [Yuriel's Father]

Chapter 64 [Yuriel's Father]

Yuriel waited for a long time, but Mela didn't ask her any questions about her father.

Even though Mela might not be willing to answer even if she asked, seeing Mela quietly bring Silas in through the car window and lean against the car wall with her eyes closed to rest, Yuriel felt a surge of indescribable frustration.

Mela had no idea what Yuriel was thinking.

Back when Yuriel mentioned that she was raised by her aunt Erica, Mela sensed something that might be difficult to talk about in the past, such as Yuriel's parents being a scar that she couldn't expose.

Although Mela can be a little mischievous at times and likes to tease people, and both Lex and Silas often show her a helpless expression, she hasn't gone so far as to make fun of other people's pain.

This is absolutely despicable behavior.

But Mela never expected that Yuriel would become even more awkward because of her thoughtfulness.

What exactly are you being so stubborn about?

Mela asked the question directly.

These past two days, Yuriel has been looking at her with a hesitant expression, and Mela, who isn't blind, has clearly seen through her strange attitude.

Mela was a little confused. What was it that Yuriel wanted to say to her but couldn't bring herself to say it?

If it were someone as calculating as Lex, it would be one thing. Mela knew he was hiding many secrets from her, but since Lex didn't say anything, Mela didn't bother to ask. After all, what he was secretly planning had nothing to do with her.

But Yuriel's personality is straightforward; she even bluntly expressed her jealousy towards Mela, without any concern that Mela might develop any negative feelings towards her.

So, what exactly is it that Yuriel finds so difficult to talk about?

Mela was a little curious, so she just asked casually.

"...Do you really want to know?"

Here we go again, Yuriel adopting that hesitant, unspoken posture once more.

“Actually, I didn’t think that way.” Mela pondered.

“Even if you don’t want to hear it, I’m going to tell you,” Yuriel said irritably.

Mela's provocation seemed to make the words that were stuck in her throat suddenly slide out smoothly.

Yuriel said, "I was raised by my aunt. I have never met my father or my mother."

As a child, Yuriel unknowingly followed Erica's teachings, calling her "Auntie" repeatedly, but never considered whether she should have other relatives.

Until one day, she secretly slipped down the mountain, hid behind a tree, and watched a little girl about her age tug at a woman's sleeve, calling her "Mother".

"Mother, Mother, I want to raise a little lamb."

The woman said in a very helpless tone, "You wanted to raise ducklings yesterday, why do you want to raise lambs today?"

Yuriel didn't hear the girl's answer, because she was filled with questions and couldn't wait to return to the mountain.

"Yuriel, where have you been all this time? Your cheeks are all flushed. Don't come hugging me when you're all sweaty later," Erica said lazily.

She had just woken up from her afternoon nap and couldn't help but yawn.

"Auntie, do I have a mother too?" Yuriel, contrary to her usual behavior, did not answer Erica's question but asked directly.

This caught Erica completely off guard.

This left Erika speechless for a moment.

She quickly composed herself and said in her usual languid tone, "Of course, if it weren't for your mother, where do you think you were born?"

"Could it be a child sent to me by the stars?" Erica said jokingly.

"If that's the case," Yuriel wondered, "then why have I never seen my mother?"

She is six years old and has only met a handful of people: Erica and Erica's friend, who is also a reclusive witch.

"Because your mother, my sister, has been killed by your father's own hands."

Erica knelt down in front of Yuriel, looking her straight in the eye. Without any hesitation, she told Yuriel the truth.

Even if the truth is so cruel.

And in Erica's amber eyes, a tiny Yuriel was reflected, along with her long, deep red hair that was exactly the same as Erica's.

Erika's sister also has beautiful red hair.

Especially since Erika and her sister are twins, even their mother would hesitate for a while before she could tell who was who just by looking at them from behind.

Now, Erica stroked Yuriel's red hair with deep longing, as if she could remember her sister through Yuriel.

However, after staring into Yuriel's eyes for a long time, Erica took a deep breath before she could help but show a look of disgust.

“Your eyes look exactly like your father’s, but he was a complete scoundrel, a hypocritical schemer, and a disgusting traitor.”

“But you are my sister’s child, you are a born witch, and you are destined to be different from your father.”

Erica patted Yuriel's head and said.

"I understand." Yuriel's face was deathly pale, and from then on she never asked about her parents again.

There was only one thing she hated about her father.

Therefore, when Yuriel overheard the old woman named Sanno telling Mela that her eyes looked exactly like her father's, she dug her nails into her flesh in resentment.

It was as if he didn't feel any pain at all.

If she could, Yuriel would never want to resemble that man in the slightest.

“Anyway, you were raised by Erica, so you had nothing to do with that man,” Silas suddenly said.

They were still sitting in the carriage, about to reach their next destination. Once again, when the coachman wasn't looking, Mela quietly carried Silas back into the carriage.

It also listened to Yuriel's story along with Mela.

During a brief silence from Mela, Silas was the first to extend his wings and pat Yuriel on the shoulder in a comforting gesture.

"Just like I was raised by Mela, I have nothing to do with my crow father and crow mother anymore. I just need to follow Mela wholeheartedly."

Similarly, in Silas's view, Yuriel just needs to live wholeheartedly with Erica.

She needs to care about people who are worth caring about.

Instead of making yourself look so bitter and resentful.

This would be bad for it, because Yuriel is jealous of Mela, and it would be better to openly hate Yuriel.

"...Did you ever hate me before?" Yuriel was stunned for a moment.

How come she didn't notice anything at all?

"Me! Didn't you notice that I've only spoken to Mela the whole way, and haven't said a word to you at all?" Silas snapped.

It wasn't afraid of Yuriel discovering that it disliked her, but it absolutely couldn't accept that Yuriel ignored its dislike.

Ultimately, if the person it dislikes doesn't know that it dislikes them, how can it possibly cause them trouble?

“You’re Mela’s pet, isn’t it only natural that you talk to Mela?” Yuriel retorted.

It is very reasonable and well-founded.

Silas's big, dark eyes seemed to widen in anger.

Just then, the coachman's voice came from ahead: "Who was that talking just now? I heard a gruff voice."

"Really? Maybe you misheard. We were clearly just talking, it was just the two of us." Mela said, quickly shoving Silas out through the open car window again.

Therefore, the carriage stopped without warning the next moment, the door was opened, and Mela and Yuriel were met with the coachman's suspicious gaze without any worry.

The coachman scanned the carriage, and after confirming that no one else was there, he scratched his head in confusion, wondering if he had misheard.

Perhaps he really misheard?

*

A few days later, Mela and Yuriel traveled all over Gardner, leading almost the entire region, before finally getting back on the right track.

Now, guided by the stars, they set off eastward.

It was only a short time after leaving Gardner Territory that even the air seemed different, becoming more vibrant and free.

Yuriel even took several exaggerated deep breaths, as if she couldn't wait to shake off something dirty.

Looking at the bustling city before her, though smaller than Golden Oak, Mela belatedly realized that Furhorst Territory was indeed very wealthy.

What did Lex say back then?

Mela recalled for a moment.

It seems that the territory of Furhorst provided most of the sea salt needed by the kingdom.

The Furhorst family, through this business, accumulated wealth over generations that even the royal family coveted.

If Fernando had been a man, perhaps it wouldn't have been Lilyles who became queen, but him.

I remember Mela curiously asking Lex if there weren't any girls in the Furhorst family suitable to marry Nurenger IX.

Lex glanced at Mela, and everything was understood without a word.

Yes, no. For some reason, each generation of the Furhorst family head only had a handful of children, leaving them pitifully empty-handed.

When it was Fernando's turn to be born, his mother never conceived a second child for more than a decade afterward.

However, the Furhorst children are all very outstanding.

During the years that Fernando left his territory to serve as prime minister in the capital, it was his aunt, Lady Jones, who handled the affairs of his territory.

Mela and Yuriel entered the city, where the sounds of vendors calling out their wares filled the air. Everyone's face was beaming with enthusiasm, and some vendors even invited them to try the fruit they had just picked from the trees, free of charge.

Mela took the plump, round orange. Before she even tore it open, she could already smell its fresh, fruity aroma.

It's hard to imagine that this is just a small town located on the border of the Furhorst Territory. If we were to go to the center of the territory, to a place called White Crystal City, I wonder if it would be a hundred times more bustling than what we are seeing now.
