Chapter 91 [Coronation]

Chapter 91 [Coronation]

Mela ultimately did not attend Lex's coronation.

While everyone was busy preparing for Lex's coronation, an ordinary-looking, unremarkable carriage slowly drove out of the royal city.

Standing in his study on the second floor, watching the carriage depart, Cherger crossed his arms and looked at Fernando, who was sitting in a chair flipping through documents, and said in an unfriendly tone, "Are you satisfied now?"

"What does this have to do with whether I'm satisfied or not?" Upon hearing this, Fernando didn't even look up. "Do you think I could interfere in their affairs while you're keeping an eye on them?"

In other words, it was all Mela's own choice, and Cherk can't blame Fernandez for her departure.

Although this is indeed the outcome Fernando wanted, it only proves that Fernando's view was correct: Lex couldn't keep Mela, and they were destined not to be together.

Tsk, it's precisely because Chernobog knows this that he feels so unwilling and regretful.

Mela clearly doesn't seem to have no feelings for Lex, so why won't she agree to stay?

Inside the carriage, Mela sat alone on the left bench, while Erica and Yuriel sat together on the right.

In fact, Erica was only knocked unconscious by the church guards and was not injured as Yuriel had feared.

However, the guards were quite heavy-handed, resulting in a large bruise on the back of Erica's head. She remained unconscious for a day and a night before waking up.

Even after waking up, Erica still had a terrible headache and needed help to walk, so she had to stay at the mansion for a few more days.

"That's strange, I thought you weren't planning on leaving."

Erica leaned against the car wall, looking at Mela with a meaningful gaze.

During her days of recuperation, Erica stayed in her room, but that didn't stop her from standing by the window and catching glimpses of Mela chatting happily with the other people in the mansion.

Ultimately, Mela is different from her and Yuriel. Thanks to growing up in Whitepine Town, Mela can easily blend into the crowd if she wants to.

Perhaps Mela is more suited to this kind of life?

"Why would you think that? After being out for so long, I've finally finished dealing with all this trouble, and I can't wait to go home."

As she spoke, Mei stretched lazily, looking rather languid.

In fact, Mela never changed her mind from beginning to end.

She once rejected Erika and planned to stay in Whitepine Town because Whitepine Town was her home; now she rejects Lex and plans to return to the Dark Forest because the Dark Forest is her home.

Erica realized this, chuckled, and admitted, "I misunderstood."

However, Erica couldn't help but appreciate all that Mela had done for her.

She extended an invitation to Mela once again, "Aren't you really going to come and see me? Over the years, I've collected many precious herbal materials. If there's anything you like, I'm not unwilling to part with it."

"We'll see." Mela didn't agree immediately. Even if she really wanted to visit Erica's place, she would have to wait until she got back to the cabin and rested for a while before making a decision.

"By the way, where's Silas?" Yuriel asked, puzzled.

When they left this morning, Yuriel saw Silas standing on Mela's shoulders, but as soon as they got into the carriage, Silas disappeared.

"You mean this? It's not planning to come with us yet, but it will catch up with us later," Mela said vaguely.

"Strange, why do you guys seem so secretive..." Yuriel noticed that Mela seemed to be hiding something from her, and muttered in dissatisfaction, but she didn't really want to pry into it.

Meanwhile, far behind Mela and her companions in the royal city, Silas moved into the palace and curiously observed Lex trying on his robes.

In preparation for tomorrow's coronation ceremony, all the best tailors in the royal city gathered together, working almost day and night to finish making this magnificent robe for Lex.

With gold threads interwoven, all sorts of gemstones were piled up as if they were free. When several maids lifted the robe from the tray, Silas's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

"Huh, what kind of stone is this? The color is exactly the same as Mela's eyes."

Silas's gaze lingered on the design on Lex's chest, and he couldn't help but speak.

However, its opening almost startled the maids in the room.

When did pigeons start talking?

But when they peeked at Lex, they found that the future king's expression remained as indifferent as ever, as if the fact that pigeons could talk was nothing to be surprised about.

“This is a Tsavorite gem.” Lex gazed at himself in the mirror, and couldn’t help but reach out and stroke the pattern on his chest, as if he were touching another pair of eerie green eyes.

They also shimmered with a cunning, subtle light.

Long ago, Lex felt that Mela's eyes resembled this gemstone, so when he had the tailors make the robes, he insisted on changing the tradition of previous kings using rubies and sapphires to embroider the sun and the sea, demanding that they use tsavorite gemstones instead.

“I see,” Silas nodded, feigning composure, as if he recognized this tsavorite gemstone. “Such a beautiful stone, could you give me one later? I’d like to take it back and give it to Mela.”

“Okay,” Lex said.

It's just a gem. Even if Silas asked for dozens of gems, Lex wouldn't refuse it.

However, Lex lowered his eyes and did not tell Silas that he had already given Mela a brooch made of tsavorite gemstones.

This brooch, which had been lying quietly in Lilyles' jewelry box, has finally found a new owner and seen the light of day again.

A day later, Erica and Yuriel parted ways with Mela.

Their lodgings were not on the way to the Dark Forest, and this carriage was specifically sent to take Mela back.

Therefore, when they reached a fork in the road where they needed to part ways, the carriage stopped, and Erica and Yuriel got off one after the other.

"Alright, let's part ways here. Goodbye, Mela, have a safe journey ahead."

It wasn't a matter of life and death, so Erika's farewell was far too simple.

Yuriel, on the other hand, stared intently at Mela and said a long string of words about how she would work even harder when she got back, telling Mela not to rely on her talent and think that she would always be the most powerful witch.

Mela waved lazily at them, "Okay, I got it. Goodbye, Yuriel. I'll be waiting for your good news."

It seems he didn't take Yuriel's words to heart at all.

As the carriage continued on its way until it disappeared from sight, Yuriel was still a little sullen, which made Erica chuckle.

She patted Yuriel's shoulder and comforted her, "If you're reluctant, just say so next time. It's not shameful."

"Who, who can't bear to part with it?" Yuri immediately dodged Erica's hand like a cat with its fur standing on end, almost jumping up.

"Oh? Isn't that right? I thought you cherished Mela as a friend. She must have been your first friend, right?" Erica pondered, seemingly genuinely believing Yuriel's insincerity, while secretly glancing at Yuriel's flushed face out of the corner of her eye.

"No, she probably doesn't even consider me a friend," Yuriel said guiltily.

Then, as if to cover up her guilty conscience, Yuriel shouted, "Yes! She definitely doesn't consider me a friend!"

“Oh—” Erica deliberately dragged out the last syllable, looking at Yuriel thoughtfully, “So you considered Mela a friend, but she didn’t consider you a friend.”

Hearing Erica's words, Yuriel seemed even angrier. "Who knows what she's thinking!"

If Mela considers her a friend, shouldn't friends hug when saying goodbye? Yuriel thought awkwardly.

She once secretly hid behind a tree and watched two girls in the village say goodbye, clinging to each other with reluctance, unwilling to part.

But Mela didn't seem reluctant at all.

However, Yuriel had already planned it all out. Once she developed the new potion, she would be able to go to Mela legitimately.

Seeing Yuriel's expression suddenly relax again, Erica stopped teasing her mischievously. Her niece had lived in the mountains since she was a child, and her personality was as simple as that of a sixteen or seventeen-year-old girl in town.

Erica was genuinely afraid that if she teased her any further, Erica would get really angry.

Thinking of this, Erica shrugged and took the lead. "Let's go, Yuriel, we need to get to the next town before dark."

"Understood." Yuriel quickly followed Erica, no longer looking back at the tracks left by the carriage.

Meanwhile, Meera rested her hand on the carriage window, letting the slowly flowing wind brush against her face, caress her hair, and then slip away uncontrollably.

The next second, a dark shadow suddenly pounced on Mela's face. Mela instinctively fell backward, causing Silas to miss and almost crash into the car wall.

"Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!" Silas cried out in protest against Mela, but he couldn't speak because he had a gem in his mouth.

"Hey, is this a gift from Lex?" Melanie reached out her hand, letting Silas place the familiar-looking gem in her hand first.

"No, I asked him for it myself. It's called a tsavorite gem. Of course, the name doesn't matter. What matters is how much this gem looks like your eyes."

Upon hearing this, Silas instantly forgot his earlier unpleasantness and excitedly introduced it to Mela.

“Thank you, Silas, I love it.” Mela smiled and held the gem in the air, letting the light pass through it and freely refract its beautiful brilliance.

"But where did you see this gemstone?"

Mela knew Silas very well; if she hadn't seen a similar gem, she would never have known that such a stone existed in the world.

"It's on Lex's clothes, I think it's called a robe, the pattern embroidered on the chest uses this kind of gemstone," Silas said, scratching his head with his wing.

"Speaking of which, when Lex walked step by step toward the throne in this magnificent robe, everyone was stunned. It wasn't until Lex put the crown on his own head that they said something like 'No,' 'How can the king put the crown on himself?'"

At that moment, Silas, who witnessed all of this, watched as a group of people instinctively tried to remove Lex's crown, but then reluctantly withdrew their hands under Lex's cold gaze, and immediately burst into uncontrollable laughter.

"Quack quack," Silas said, "Since it's the king's crown, why can't the king wear it, and why does the pope have to put it on him?"

Anyway, that pope doesn't seem like a good person.

Especially after hearing Lex say that he was Raod, Silas suddenly hated the man who pretended to be holy and harmless even more. It turned out that he was the villain who hurt Yuriel's mother.

It would be truly disgusting if he were to actually crown Lex.

"Oh, right, there were other things that happened at the coronation..." Silas told Mela about all the interesting things he had seen at the coronation, while feeling a little regretful.

It's worth noting that Lex looked truly unique when he wore a crown, held a scepter, and the brilliance of his ring and the jewels on his robes complemented each other.

It was as if Lex in Silas's memory had become a completely different person.

If Silas had met Lex like this from the beginning, he certainly wouldn't have dared to breathe.

However, no matter what Lex becomes, he will always listen to Mela.

Feeling that he was relying on someone else's power, Silas puffed out his chest and thought he was invincible again.
