Li Tie and the others were too slow to stop Xie Fu before he arrived, and could only watch helplessly as Xie Fu walked up to the demoness.
Those southern barbarians were torn apart by some unseen force, falling down like wheat under a sickle.
In desperation, Li Tie disregarded the possibility of offending the demoness and could only shout, "Young Master, that's a demoness!"
Xie Fu ignored her and stood quietly in front of Shu Yun, looking at her soft black hair.
She glanced at him once, then lowered her head again, refusing to look at him again.
Xie Fu slowly squatted down, looked up at her, "Shu Yun..."
She leaned against the rock behind her with her head down and eyes closed, her chest rising and falling slightly. When he called her name, her curled eyelashes trembled, proving that she was still awake.
She still held the arrow in her hand, blood seeping from between her fingers, gathering into droplets that fell downwards along the curve of her fingers.
Xie Fuxiu's long, slender hand covered her hand that was covering her abdomen, and slowly tightened.
He could hear the whistling wind and the noise made by Li Tie and the others, but he could clearly hear the sound of every drop of blood from her left hand hitting the ground.
Xie Fu's eyes were filled with sorrow. He didn't know what to do. Even the joy of finding her again was overshadowed by panic and helplessness.
The hand holding hers was trembling.
Shu Yun was stunned for a moment, and subconsciously opened her eyes to look at Xie Fu, but her vision was still a blank white.
She couldn't see what he looked like now.
After a long silence, she softly called out, "Xie Fu."
"Um."
Xie Fu's deep, hoarse voice rang out, very close to her.
Shu Yun felt a bit tired. The little bit of improvement Nanpu had given her over the past few days was probably wasted because of this incident.
She thought for a moment, then dropped the arrow from her left hand, released her hand from her stomach, and grasped Xie Fu's hand in return, interlocking their fingers.
She forced a smile and comforted him, "It doesn't hurt anymore. Don't blame yourself."
Her hands were so cold they had no warmth at all, and the way she gripped his hand was barely perceptible.
Xie Fu stared at her unfocused eyes, then gently wiped away the blood from the corner of her mouth with his fingertips.
He stood up, picked the person up, and strode forward.
"I'll take you to see a doctor."
Shu Yun leaned against the cold iron armor on his body, feeling a chill.
Hearing his words, she smiled and said, "Li Tie called me a witch. What use is a doctor who treats mortals?"
Her voice was very soft, carried by the blood-scented winter wind, barely audible, as if it might suddenly stop at any moment.
Xie Fu pulled her closer, bending his back slightly to shield her from the wind.
He asked gently, "Then what should I do? How should I heal your wounds? Do I need rare and precious herbs, or do I need a human heart?"
She spoke softly from inside his arms, "I'm not a monster..."
Xie Fu glanced at Li Tie and the others who had followed but hesitated to speak, his dark eyes revealing his unspoken meaning.
"Thank you for your help."
He responded softly, "I'm here."
Shu Yun felt dizzy and disoriented, guessing that this time things wouldn't end well, and she wouldn't be allowed to stay awake.
She explained the situation to Xie Fu beforehand, "If I fall asleep later, don't be afraid, and don't waste your energy looking for any rare treasures. Mortal things are useless to me..."
Xie Fu lowered his head and rubbed his chin against the hair on the top of her head. "Then what should I do, hmm?"
Shu Yun closed her eyes, and a golden light flashed from her sleeve. "I'll be fine after a while. You must take good care of yourself during this time and wait for me to wake up... Don't make me face the scene of you being in a life-or-death situation again."
The enormous setting sun in the distance slowly sank below the horizon, its orange-red light illuminating the soldiers in their armor.
Xie Fu took a few breaths, trying his best to keep his voice steady, "You'll wake up, won't you?"
The person in his arms seemed to respond to him, but the voice was too faint, making Xie Fu wonder if he was hallucinating.
——————
"The young master is back!"
The sentries on the city wall spotted people from afar and quickly dispatched several men to report to the Xie residence.
Upon hearing the news from his subordinates, the few people in the Xie residence, whose atmosphere was extremely heavy, all stood up and rushed towards the city gate.
Heaven knows how frustrated they felt, trapped in this royal city because of the young master's order, unable to advance or retreat with him.
Adding to that the sudden appearance of the red-skirted banshee, their hopes were dashed to the lowest point.
Now that the young master has returned safely, their hopes, which had been suppressed to the lowest point, have rebounded, making them extremely excited.
The steward, loyal to the young master's orders, desperately stopped Ma Gan from leading his personal guards to rescue people out of momentary anxiety and impulsiveness.
But his hope for Xie Fu's safety was no less than Ma Gan's.
Upon hearing the news, he adjusted his brocade hat and dashed out of the Xie residence, heading towards the city gate.
Before leaving, he didn't forget to leave Ma Gan with a message: "Stay in the manor and protect the old master's safety. Don't let the Qin family take advantage of any loopholes."
Ma Gan, who had originally gotten up with the steward to rush to see the young master, was frozen in place by his words and could only watch resentfully as the steward's short figure darted out.
Unfortunately, he couldn't refute the butler's arrangements and was forced to accept them.
If he also leaves the Xie family, there will be no one in charge. If the Qin family were to take action against the old master, it would be disastrous.
After instructing the servants to prepare the carriage, the steward quickly headed towards the city gate, while he himself went ahead on foot, leading a group of guards to rush to meet the young master.
