The moon was bright and the stars were few. The cool moonlight spread down from the high sky. There were few trees around the earth, and the chirping of unknown insects rose and fell, disturbing the patrolling soldiers.
Shu Yun once again took over Xie Fu's bed as a matter of course. She lay on her side on the edge of the bed, her long black hair hanging down from the bed, her face facing outward, looking at Xie Fu's profile.
He lay on his back on the floor, the jade crown that bound his hair had been removed, and his long black hair was pressed down under his body. His eyelids and lips were very thin and the lines were clear. The way he looked with his eyes closed at this moment was much gentler than his cold and indifferent appearance during the day when he pressed down the corners of his eyes.
Xie Fu seemed annoyed by her staring, so he simply opened his eyes and looked directly at her. "What are you looking at?"
Shu Yun smiled and said, "Because you're pretty."
In the dim light of the night, only one person's eyes shone brightest. She spoke with a smile, her beautiful eyes staring straight at him, shimmering with tenderness.
Xie Fu withdrew his gaze, his face expressionless. "If you're not going to sleep on my bed, then come down and sleep on the floor."
Shu Yun pulled the blanket up, covering her entire shoulders and neck. "I'm going to sleep."
She glanced at Xie Fu's cold expression after he opened his eyes and said in a low voice, "You look better with your eyes closed."
Xie Fu was puzzled and glanced at her. As a result, she really did fall asleep as soon as she said that. She left those words and shrank into the quilt. Soon, even breathing could be heard.
For the past two days, they have been traveling day and night without ever asking to stop. Even when they encountered road conditions where they couldn't ride horses, and her white dress was covered in mud, she silently followed him without uttering a sound.
The mountain path was narrow and difficult to traverse, and it was extremely physically demanding. She never yielded to him or asked for help, and she crossed the mountains and valleys all by herself, just like the other Wind and Thunder Knights.
Li Tie was quite impressed. This level of intensity in their journey was beyond what they, the soldiers trained since childhood, could handle. He never expected that this seemingly beautiful and delicate girl could keep up with their pace on her own.
Knowing martial arts and having the stamina to keep up with the Wind and Thunder Cavalry, he was no ordinary person. Logically, his physical condition should be quite good, so how come he developed a high fever after being exposed to the night wind for a while?
Xie Fu closed her eyes; she was simply a strange person.
The next morning.
"Go up."
Xie Fu raised his chin, gesturing for Shu Yun to mount his horse.
Shu Yun calmly replied, "We can't get up there."
Xie Fu glanced at her sideways and said lazily, "So, what are you up to now?"
Shu Yun laughed and opened her arms, "Carry me up."
Upon hearing Shu Yun's words, Li Tie grinned and naively translated the woman's words to his young master, "Young master, Miss Shu is just being coquettish."
behave in a spoiled manner?
Xie Fu lowered his head and looked at her thoughtfully.
Just when Li Tie thought his young master was about to see the light, he watched helplessly as Xie Fu coldly mounted his horse, sat down casually, looked down at Shu Yun, and remained unmoved by her "coquettishness".
Shu Yun stood on the ground, still reaching out her hand, waiting for him to lift her onto the horse.
Neither of them spoke, their eyes locked in an unspoken battle, then froze in mid-air, waiting to see who would back down first.
Shu Yun had a smile on her lips the whole time, her eyes crinkled as she looked up at him, seemingly not worried at all that Xie Fu would just leave.
Xie Fu stared at her quietly for a while, and finally, in front of the many soldiers who were watching the show, he compromised and bent down to pull the smugly smiling Shu Yun into his arms.
As he pulled her into his arms, Shu Yun's mind was filled with Xie Fu's unwilling yet determined embrace. She gazed at the dawn on the horizon, where white light shone through the dark clouds, telling the people living on earth that a new day was about to begin.
The morning breeze, carrying the earthy scent, brushed against everyone's faces. Xie Fu, sitting behind Shu Yun, clearly heard her soft laughter.
He smirked. "So happy?"
Shu Yun leaned back, not hiding her emotions, "Yes, I'm happy."
Her hair was soft and fine, and when she leaned back, it brushed against his neck, making him feel a little itchy.
Xie Fu chuckled, "Alright."
He rested his chin on Shu Yun's head and could clearly smell the faint fragrance emanating from her. The fragrance was so subtle that it was difficult to detect its origin without careful examination; one might mistake it for a scent that drifted over from somewhere along the roadside on the wind.
Like the fragrance of flowers, he squinted, his expression casual as he watched the dawn break in the distance with her, the first rays of sunlight slowly enveloping the earth.
The Wind and Thunder Cavalry, who mounted their horses one after another, did not disturb the two in front. The usually decisive and efficient Wind and Thunder Cavalry had a rare moment of leisure and, thanks to Miss Shu Yun, were able to take a good look at the dawn in the Western Liang wilderness.
Li Tie watched the two figures moving in harmony from behind and nodded with satisfaction. Watching the sunrise together in the morning was a rare and romantic thing.
After all these years, it's not easy for the young master to find a woman he's willing to put in the effort for.
The Xie family, a powerful clan in Xiliang, had few descendants for some reason. From the patriarch to the heir, each generation had only one son. Fortunately, they were all boys, otherwise the Xie family's fortune would have been ruined by the lack of children and grandchildren.
The young master has never had a close woman by his side for so many years. Not only is the Xie family patriarch worried, but his subordinates are also worried. How can a man not be close to a woman? Over time, they can't help but think of the young master in that direction.
Now, not only has Miss Shu Yun successfully slept in the young master's bed, but he has also taken the initiative to hold her in his arms. This has relieved them. At least the only son of the Xie family has not really become a homosexual.
Xie Fu didn't need to think about it deliberately; he could clearly picture Shu Yun's affectionate eyes in his mind. After all, she always had that expression when she looked at him.
A cool autumn morning breeze swept through Xiliang, bringing a slight chill to everyone's exposed skin. Xie Fu pulled her closer to him; she was so delicate, and the wind would surely make her sick again.
Xie Fu pulled his gaze away from the distant sky, tightened the reins, and gestured for them to set off.
A group of people rode away in a cloud of dust, leaving only some campfire ash, carefully collected and trampled into the mud by the soldiers, as a hint that someone had once stayed here.
The delicate fragrance of the flowers was scattered by the rushing wind, becoming almost imperceptible.
Xie Fu was unaware of the emotions slowly brewing within him, completely oblivious to the fact that a corner of the towering iceberg was beginning to melt away.
He was just thinking that, regardless of whether this woman might be a southern barbarian or a spy sent from the Central Plains, he might be able to let her stay and stay by his side.
