Chapter Ninety-Five

"Only I can cure your grandfather's illness."

One sentence froze Xie Fu, who was contemplating murder, in place.

Xie Fu gripped the spear tightly with his long, slender, and well-defined hands, then released it, only to grip it again and release it once more.

Her aloof and beautiful features flickered in and out of focus with the firelight outside. Her long neck, not concealed by her white inner garment, and her clearly defined collarbones were both rendered with a casual yet unrestrained air by the interplay of light and shadow.

After a moment, he threw the spear on the ground, glanced at Li Tie sideways, and said, "Get out."

Li Tie swallowed hard, sheathed his sword, and bowed, replying, "Yes, sir."

He glanced quickly at Shu Yun, still shaken. He was incredibly lucky to have witnessed a woman climb into the young master's bed and even manage to make him abandon his murderous intent.

He only dared to glance at it once more before immediately retreating.

"Tell me," Xie Fu stared at her intently, his brows furrowed, clearly indicating that he had reached his limit of patience. "What's wrong with the old man's illness?"

Shu Yun pulled the blanket up to cover herself, as she hadn't been feeling well lately and was a bit sensitive to the cold.

When Xie Fu saw her occupying his bed and covering him with his blankets, he froze. His dark eyelashes, as black as raven feathers, drooped, concealing the growing gloom and restlessness in his eyes.

After covering herself up completely, Shu Yun breathed a sigh of relief and looked at him with a smile, "You're not feeling well, so you should wrap yourself up thickly. Don't mind."

Xie Fu's expression was cold. "Speak quickly."

Shu Yun glanced at his face, turned her head away, her smile fading, and said, "Old Master Xie's illness is a chronic one, deeply ingrained. Coupled with his unrestrained smoking of his pipe, his body is now like a piece of wood riddled with holes, eaten away by termites. Even if a woodpecker removes the termites, the damage to his body can never be repaired..."

Xie Fu interrupted, "If there's no way to cure it, what makes you think you can?"

Shu Yun continued calmly, "Others may not be able to make up for it, but I can."

Xie Fu was deep in thought. Having grown up in a family of military generals, even just standing there with his eyes lowered, he exuded an air of arrogance. His features were exquisite, with sharp lines. He was tall and slender, and even the pure white robes he wore could not help to conceal his arrogance and the noble air that came from his very bones.

Shu Yun twitched the corners of her mouth, smiling on the surface but not in her eyes, her thoughts unreadable. "But during the two weeks I treated Old Master Xie, the changes in his body were best known to the doctors in your Xie family. Even if you don't understand medicine, you must have noticed something just by looking at his mental state."

“I know you and Old Master Xie both suspect me. You can keep sending people to monitor me, but Xie Fu, stop pointing a gun at me. I can die at the hands of anyone else, but I don’t want to see you pointing a gun at me.”

Shu Yun didn't look anywhere else; her clear, bright eyes were fixed on Xie Fu.

She called him Xie Fu.

She didn't get to hear his name from him. He was right; his name was known throughout Xiliang. Even without her deliberately inquiring, she could hear about him in casual conversations among the common people around her.

A hint of sarcasm flashed across Xie Fu's lazy expression. Who did she think she was? Did she really think that just because she knew a little medicine, she could control him based on the old man's affairs?

But when he glanced into Shu Yun's pure and clear eyes, the sarcastic words twirled on his tongue, but he swallowed them back and changed them into something else.

"If you sleep on my spot, where am I supposed to sleep?"

Shu Yun thought about it seriously for a moment, "Sleep on the floor?"

Xie Fu sneered, "You expect me, the dignified young master of the Xie family, to sleep on the floor while you, a mere doctor, sleep in my bed?"

Shu Yun nodded, and as she moved, the purplish marks on her neck clearly came into Xie Fu's view. "I haven't been feeling well lately, and I might catch a cold if I sleep on the floor. You're in good health, so you'll be fine sleeping on the floor for a few days."

Her skin was naturally fair; among all the women Xie Fu had ever seen, none had a complexion as white as hers.

Against the backdrop of pure white, the bluish-purple marks he had made stood out starkly as he stared at her neck, his brows furrowed.

The two had been facing off for a short while when Xie Fu angrily grabbed a spare quilt piled up in the tent, quickly and simply made himself a makeshift "bed," and then lay down with his back to her, fully clothed.

Shu Yun lay on the bed that originally belonged to Xie Fu, wrapped in a quilt, looking at Xie Fu's lean and broad shoulders and back.

She knew he wasn't asleep; he was always very alert, and besides, he had always suspected her, so how could he possibly fall asleep peacefully?

Shu Yun is a celestial being, a thousand-year-old immortal, a ten-thousand-year-old god. The changing seasons of the three realms have no effect on her. Yet now, she can hardly bear even the night wind of early autumn in Xiliang.

If only she had swallowed all the pills that old man Nanpu gave her back then, or at least carried some with her.

She gazed at the familiar figure in the distance, her mind slowly becoming drowsy, and she drifted off to sleep.

Xie Fu closed his eyes and held his breath, pretending to be asleep, carefully guarding against the strange woman behind him. After waiting for a while, he heard even breathing behind him.

She actually died in her sleep.

Xie Fu was speechless. He had been so careful to guard against her, but she had already fallen into a deep sleep.

Some people, in order to carry out assassinations, will specifically study human breathing and train specifically to do so, but Shu Yun's slightly heavy breathing is clearly not the result of such special training.

Xie Fu simply stopped closing his eyes to rest and let his nerves relax. Being highly tense was extremely taxing on his body, so even if he didn't fall into a deep sleep, he deliberately tried to relax his tense mind.

No, Xie Fu frowned and stood up.

Although Shu Yun came from Xuanwu Mountain, she was exceptionally well-mannered in every gesture, unlike the strict and demanding daughters of officials like Chen Xiaoxiao. She walked with very light steps and never spoke in a loud or boisterous voice.

Xie Fu walked to the bedside and saw Shu Yunlu's head outside the blankets. Her fair skin was tinged with an unnatural blush, and her slightly parted, red lips were constantly exhaling hot breath.

He reached out and touched her smooth forehead, feeling the burning heat on the back of his hand.

Xie Fu clicked his tongue inwardly. Dealing with this person was truly a series of troublesome events that never seemed to stop.

He wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight. Xie Fu grabbed his Hu clothes and quickly put them on, then ordered his men to summon the accompanying physician.

After his subordinates left to carry out their orders, Xie Fu glanced at Shu Yun's stunningly beautiful face, which was flushed with rosy hues due to her illness, especially the vibrant red at the corners of her eyes.

She was out in the wind for a short while and suddenly became so sick. She's so delicate.

She even told him not to point the gun at her anymore, like a flower in a greenhouse, unable to withstand any wind or rain.
