"Are we really not going to worry about Miss Shuyun?"
Li Tie glanced back, but there was no trace of white.
They were supposed to return to the capital in a few days, but because Shu Yun suddenly caught a cold and the doctor said she was weak and needed some herbs to neutralize the effects of the medicine, they had to travel to the nearest town and stay overnight.
Xie Fu ignored Li Tie completely, focusing intently on the mountain road ahead. His clean-cut profile remained as nonchalant as ever, showing no sign of concern.
Li Tie looked back again, "Why can't I see Miss Shu Yun anymore?"
Xie Fu then turned around and looked, and the white figure that had been riding behind them was indeed gone.
"Stop."
Once the order was given, the team stopped in an orderly fashion from front to back.
Xie Fu coldly searched again carefully, and Shu Yun was indeed gone.
He rode his horse around to the back and asked the Wind and Thunder Riders in the back, "Where are they?"
The soldiers also looked bewildered. "We don't know, it was still there at first..."
The girl in the white dress rode her horse silently behind them, and they didn't notice when she disappeared.
She disappeared in the desolate wilderness, and no one knew when she vanished.
Xie Fu made a quick decision: "Return along the route, pay attention to your surroundings, and report any unusual activity immediately."
"yes!"
Xie Fu took the lead, his tied-up black hair fluttering in the wind. His usually nonchalant expression was replaced by a rare seriousness.
No matter how much he doubted Shu Yun, her medical skills were undoubtedly superb, and the old man's illness only showed improvement in her care.
He had made up his mind that even if she might be a spy from the Southern Barbarians or the Central Plains, he had to keep her alive. They had plenty of ways to control someone.
Xie Fu led the Wind and Thunder Cavalry back, searching all the way. Before long, they found Shu Yun walking slowly with her horse on the main road they had been on.
He dismounted, came to her, pulled her closer, and, suppressing his anger, asked, "What are you doing? Taking the horse for a walk?"
The man's warm breath fell on her hair. Shu Yun was caught off guard and pulled closer by him. She was overwhelmed by his scent, which was indescribably cool but very pleasant.
It smells a lot like the crisp, pine-like scent that Jiang Yan carries.
Even after reincarnation, his soul remained the same; he was still Jiang Yan.
Shu Yun was lost in thought and did not respond immediately.
Xie Fu reached out and pinched her cheek, forcing her to look up at him. "Speak."
His brows furrowed deeply, and his beautiful eyes were filled with frustration and gloom; he had clearly reached his limit of patience with her.
Shu Yun looked at Xie Fu and Jiang Yan's identical faces. They were clearly the same, one gentle and obedient, the other cold and aloof.
They are different; Xie Fu is not Jiang Yan.
She misunderstood.
It was that same look in her eyes again. The first time Xie Fu met her at the Xie residence, she wasn't wearing a veil, and she looked at him with the same gaze.
It seemed as if countless strands of sorrow were contained within her eyes, interwoven and coalescing, filling her dark eyes, which were as cold and clear as ice and snow.
Every time Xie Fu saw that look in her eyes, he would remember her words about her feelings for him, which would upset him.
He firmly believed that there was no such thing as sudden affection in this world.
But Shu Yun's expression as she looked at him was so deep and genuine, without a single flaw, that he was convinced that she was just lying and playing tricks.
Her delicate, perfect nose was flushed red, and the face he was pinching was cool, probably from being blown by the wind while riding the horse.
She caught a cold from being outside in the night breeze before, and now that she's been exposed to the wind, I wonder if she'll get sick again and delay their trip.
Shu Yun didn't like being forced to look up, so she struggled slightly, and the other person released her on their own.
"The horse was just bought casually in town, so its speed can't compare to the prized horses that Feng Lei has carefully selected."
Her phone call served as an explanation for why she fell behind.
Li Tie realized, "That's right, Miss Shu Yun's horse was bought casually in that small town, and it can't compare to their horses."
Xie Fu thought for a moment, then stepped onto the saddle with his long legs, climbed onto the horse's back, leaned down towards Shu Yun, and stretched out his hand, "Get on."
Shu Yun was stunned. Did this mean he wanted to take her riding with him?
The soldiers behind him exchanged a series of winks and glares.
This was the first time he had taken the initiative with her since she found him.
She couldn't help but loosen the reins, step forward, and reach out to place her hand on his fair and slender hand.
Shu Yun's mount seemed to sense something, snorted uneasily, and pawed at the soil below with its front hooves.
Shu Yun paused, her hand reaching out to Xie Fu, and asked hesitantly, "What about this horse?"
Xie Fu flipped his hand and grabbed her wrist. With his strong, thin arm, he pulled her up a little, then bent down and wrapped his arms around her waist, forcibly lifting her onto the horse's back.
A series of powerful movements drew frivolous whistles from the Wind and Thunder Knights behind him.
After lifting Shu Yun onto the back of the horse, Xie Fu released her wrists and waist, and instead took the reins.
He glanced down at her fair and delicate nape of the neck, his fingers curling slightly uncomfortably.
You wouldn't know until you touch her; her wrists and waist are so thin, it looks like he could break them if he used just a little more force.
Shu Yun sensed unease in the horse's eyes. She hesitated for a moment, wanting to get off, but Xie Fu held her tightly in his arms.
His deep voice came from above, "Don't move."
She pointed to the horse that was circling around in circles. "What should we do with it?"
Xie Fu ignored her and led the group back towards the capital of Xiliang.
