"So, you believed it?"
Xie Fu sat lazily in a carved rosewood chair.
The old man just liked these carved wooden chairs. He didn't care much about the materials; he just used whatever was expensive, otherwise it wouldn't reflect the status of the Xie family as nobles.
Because of the old man's poor taste, the entire Xie residence, except for his courtyard, was filled with these kinds of chairs, which were uncomfortable to sit on no matter how you sat on them.
Grandpa Xie couldn't stand the boy's unseemly posture. He rolled his eyes and said, "Do you think I can trust your grandpa? Just because of a few words from that little brat?"
Xie Fu bent one leg, while the other leg remained straight, saying, "Then why are you telling me all this?"
Grandpa Xie glanced at his grandson's lazy sitting posture. To be honest, although the boy had no manners, he was very handsome. Even though he was raised in a rough and unruly manner by him, he still had a noble air about him when he sat there with his eyelids drooping.
Just like his mother from the Central Plains.
“I’m holding her in our Xie family mansion,” Old Master Xie said, taking the pipe handed to him by his men and taking a deep drag on the pipe. “You’ve always been clever, kid, and you can judge people right away. I have my doubts, but the men I sent out to investigate all say that there is such a person as her in Xuanwu Mountain. Go and take a look in the back room and see if you can get any information out of her.”
Xie Fu scoffed, giving him a cold glance. "There are plenty of old men in the manor who can interrogate people. Anyone can get her to spill some real information."
"You little brat..."
Xie Fu stood up and straightened his sleeves. "The trip to the desolate ridge was fruitless. Those bandits have long since disappeared. I still have things to do. Don't come to me with things like trying to get women to talk."
Seeing that the young man was really turning to leave, Old Master Xie immediately clutched his chest and leaned back in his chair, coughing so loudly it shook the heavens and the earth.
The steward, who had been guarding the door, scurried in, wailing, "Master, Lord Marquis, what's wrong? Don't scare this servant!"
Here we go again with this trick.
Without stopping, Xie Fu shouted, "I'll go!"
Upon hearing those two words, the ailing old man Xie's chest pain subsided. He straightened his clothes, sat up straight with renewed vigor, and continued smoking his pipe.
"That's right."
Grandpa Xie took a satisfied puff of his cigarette, and as he exhaled the smoke, he looked at his grandson's tall and strong back through the swirling smoke, slowly narrowing his already cloudy eyes.
The background of Shu Yun was not clearly explained. Even though he eventually found out that she had indeed lived in Xuanwu Mountain since childhood, such an identity and background with the fewest witnesses and evidence was the easiest to fabricate, and he always had doubts.
But after Shu Yun asked to be silenced from the public, she said something else to him, and he truly listened to those words.
It was after hearing those words that he decided to keep the woman by Xie Fu's side.
Grandpa Xie leisurely exhaled a smoke ring. Some decisions, you have to be brave enough to take a gamble.
Xie Fu walked along the long corridor of the mansion. The orange-red sunset hung in the sky, half of it hidden in the clouds. The halo of light reflected on his emotionless face, making his eyebrows and eyes appear cold and indifferent.
He came down from the corridor and immediately saw the woman the old man had asked him to get information out of. She was dressed in a spotless white dress and sat by the window, looking out at the swirling clouds in the sky.
This time she wasn't wearing a veil, and the rouge color of the clouds sprinkled on her snow-white skin. Her clean and clear eyes were like a pool of clear spring water, so transparent that you could see right through them, yet they also carried a sense of aloofness. If you looked at them for a long time, you couldn't help but feel that these unmoving eyes were somewhat unapproachable.
Xie Fu's gaze lingered on her profile as she looked towards the horizon for a moment before shifting away, interrupting the tranquil and beautiful scene before him, "What did you say to the old man?"
Shu Yun turned to look at him, her expression natural and composed. She pointed to the chair next to her and said, "Sit down."
Xie Fu glanced at her hand, showing no intention of sitting down for a long talk. "Your ability to persuade the old man has no impact on me. My intuition tells me that nine out of ten of what you said to the old man were probably false, and my intuition is usually very accurate."
She didn't say anything, but mentally prepared herself for a while, trying to get used to his attitude.
Xie Fu stood outside the window, his eyes lowered, a cold arc drawn at the corners of his eyes, looking down at her. "Generally speaking, in this kind of situation, my husband and I would rather kill the innocent than let the guilty go free."
Shu Yun looked up at him and heard the threat in his tone. She found it somewhat amusing. She was, after all, a goddess of the Three Realms, yet she was listening to threats from a mortal, and this mortal was Jiang Yan.
Xie Fu's threats not only failed to elicit fear from her, but also revealed a hint of amusement in her eyes.
This woman seemed unfazed; she appeared to be fearless.
This kind of person is the most troublesome. They don't care about anything or their lives. I don't know if they're faking it or if they really are like that.
“I told your grandfather that I like you, and he was very touched and decided that you should marry me.”
Xie Fu didn't even blink. "What you said to the old man, the old man told me everything."
"Oh, I see," Shu Yun paused, showing no embarrassment at being exposed, "Anyway, your grandfather agreed to let me stay with you. So, how about it, will you give me a proper status?"
Xie Fu frowned as he looked at her. He had never seen such a blatant and straightforward woman. Even the women who ended up in brothels were once daughters of officials, and none of them spoke like this.
Chen Xiaoxiao would just stay quietly to the side. If you didn't let her speak, she would just be a decoration. The person from the dance studio would just stand to one side and talk about dance and music.
