Chapter Two

Under such gentle skies, a kind person softly comforted the boy, telling him not to be afraid of being abandoned.

This scene was treasured in the heart of the lonely boy who grew up alone, and he would recall it again and again in the days after Shu Yun left.

The boy's injuries were barely healed after Shu Yun nursed him back to health for a month, but he was left with a chronic condition in his right calf. The once handsome young man had become a cripple at a young age.

Early in the morning, Shu Yun arrived at Feng's residence just in time to translate lecture notes for Feng Zi, laying the foundation for his smooth career in the future. She then returned to the courtyard in the alley just in time.

Upon entering, one sees the young boy raised at home standing on a wooden stool, with his washed sheets and clothes neatly drying in the yard, the entire courtyard filled with the scent of soapberries.

"Why are you out again?"

When the boy saw her return, he ran over in a few steps and skillfully took the book from Shu Yun's hands. "My injuries are fully healed, and I can work again."

"Really?" Shu Yun squatted down and lifted his trouser leg. "Let me see."

The swelling had subsided, and the boy's slender, pale legs looked no different from those of an ordinary person. Only when he walked could one see the difference.

The boy stood quietly in place, letting everyone examine him.

Shu Yun pulled down her trouser leg and smiled gently, "It's really healed."

The boy's handsome eyes lit up. "What would you like to eat tonight, everyone? I'll cook."

“No rush,” Shu Yun pointed to the back of the courtyard, “You’ve always been curious about what the study looks like, right? I’ll take you to see it.”

Although the boy never told her and always stayed obediently in the front yard, she occasionally saw him quietly looking out the window of the side room at the study in the back yard.

The boy's gaze fell on the book that Shu Dajia had brought back, but he didn't recognize a single word written on it.

His expression dimmed. "May I go in...?"

"Why not?"

Shu Yun bent down slightly, took the boy's cold, damp hand, and led him around the courtyard, giving him a basic understanding of the place.

Shu Yun pointed to a path behind the master bedroom, "This path leads to the study. I wanted you to rest quietly for the past month, so I told you not to move around. Now that you're better, you can stroll around the courtyard more."

She led the boy onto the slightly narrow marble path, tightened her grip on his hand slightly, and whispered a reminder, "Be careful, it's easy to slip here."

The boy obediently followed beside her, stepping carefully on the marble floor, occasionally stealing a glance at Shu Dajia holding his hand.

Those hands were more beautiful than any hands he had ever seen; the five fingers were fair and slender, even more beautiful than the hands of Sister Liu'er from the Washing Silk Pavilion.

Before entering the building, Sister Liu'er worked in a farmhouse. Even after her calluses were worn down, her hands, no matter how well she took care of them, never had a smooth, delicate texture.

Shu Dajia's hands are soft and warm, with lines so faint they are almost invisible; these are truly hands that have been pampered.

Now, such a pair of soft, beautiful hands, with their fingers slightly parted, held the hand of a man whose life was as insignificant as grass in their palms, and the warmth of their bodies traveled from Shu Dajia's fingertips to the back of his hand.

All of this came too suddenly. Is this the fate he deserves?

The boy followed closely behind Shu Yun, his thin frame close to the man in the green robe beside him, his small, cold hands clenching back to tightly grasp one of Shu Yun's fingers.

If Heaven truly takes pity on him, then please bless him so that he can stay by Shu Dajia's side forever.
