She had never slept so soundly before.
When she woke up the next morning, the snow that had been falling for two days had finally stopped and the sun was high in the sky. She got up from the bed, feeling as if her whole body was falling apart. Qin Xiao was not at home. There was a note next to her pillow telling Ji Xia that he was going on a training march today. There was millet porridge and steamed buns being heated in the pot, along with a small dish of pickles, for her to eat when she woke up. If it was cold, she could add some firewood to the stove and heat it up.
Ji Xia glanced at the time. It was already past ten o'clock and it would be noon in a while.
She had never slept so late before, and she was almost tormented by that man last night.
After dinner, Ji Xia went out, intending to stroll around and familiarize herself with the surroundings. She saw her neighbor on the right walking out with a basket on her shoulder. She smiled at her kindly, and she nodded in response. After estimating her age, she called out, "Sister-in-law."
"Are you Xiao Qin's wife?" Ye Fengmei was familiar with the sisters-in-law in the army. She had heard some gossip about Ji Xia, all from Sun Yulan, but she also knew how gossipy Sun Yulan was, so she didn't take those words seriously and wanted to make friends with Ji Xia.
"Yes, I'm new here and not familiar with the place. What's your name, sister-in-law?" Ji Xia spoke in a somewhat cold and harsh tone. Her profession had affected her personality. She was not as weak as those girls of her age.
Ye Fengmei just happened to like girls like this. She didn't like girls who spoke in a mosquito-like voice, buzzing and shy.
"My last name is Ye, Fengmei, and Xiao Qin calls me Sister Ye. Are you going to buy vegetables? The supply and marketing cooperative said that a pig has arrived today, and everyone is going there to buy it. Let's go quickly, otherwise we won't be able to get it if we are late." Ye Fengmei pulled Ji Xia over.
Ji Xia was very familiar with the place and nothing happened. She had just left the army gate and saw a donkey cart waiting for her. There were five or six people sitting on the cart, and one of them was Sun Yulan. She was talking to a few military wives and when she saw Ji Xia coming, she nodded at her and the others looked confused.
"Uncle Cheng, we are here. Everyone is here. Let's go!" Ye Fengmei said.
Cheng Bo was sitting in the cart, holding a pipe in his mouth. There was no tobacco in it and it was not lit. He was just doing it to satisfy his craving. After hearing what Ye Fengmei said, he whipped the donkey cart and it started moving.
"Is this Xiao Qin's wife? Oh, no wonder Captain Qin dotes on her so much, she's really cute. What's her name and where is she from?" Sun Yulan's eyes were full of teasing, and she reached out to Ji Xia, wanting to touch her face.
