Chapter 38
The two helped each other climb to the roof of the main building.
Standing on high ground, Su Yue could see clearly: the main building was L-shaped, and not far from the other end of the L-shape was a small hill, slightly higher than the main building, and behind the hill were towering, continuous mountain ranges.
Daisy said, "People often play sledding on this hill when it snows in winter. I never thought it would save my life."
Su Yue scoffed, "Skiing on this hundred-meter-high hill? It's at best a beginner's slope."
Daisy glanced at him: "You talk like you're so great. I remember you were a complete newbie."
Su Yue retorted, "Someone took me there before, from the top of a real snow mountain, it was wild skiing!" As soon as he said it, he regretted it, the image of that person flashing through his mind, and his heart suddenly ached.
Daisy thought she had hit a nerve, so she scoffed and didn't say anything more.
After coming down from the roof, the two of them, without any instruction, transformed into the most clumsy "monkeys," climbed over three big trees, waded through a low-lying area, and finally stepped onto the small hill.
They thought they could finally relax, but as they stepped onto the slippery mud, they found it difficult to walk—they slipped every three steps, or even took a step backward.
“Oh no…” Daisy’s voice trembled, whether from fear, exhaustion, or cold, it was hard to tell.
This small hill is not natural; it is man-made, with loose soil and rocks underneath. It is fine on ordinary days, but it is extremely easy for the structure to loosen and collapse when it is hit by a once-in-a-century torrential rain and flood.
Su Yue pointed to a platform on higher ground: "You can jump from there to the mountain behind! Only climbing to the real mountain is safe!"
Daisy gritted her teeth and said, "Fine!"
The floodwaters beneath our feet surged forward like a ferocious beast, closing in relentlessly. The torrential rain from the sky was merciless, lashing the hills as if eager to unleash a mudslide.
In the face of life and death, the two worked together, holding hands as they moved forward.
Su Yue took the lead, probing out a safe foothold step by step, before turning back to guide Daisy to follow.
When they were only twenty meters away from the platform, a sudden gust of wind arose, and a large amount of mud and rocks slid down from above, rushing over their ankles like a torrent.
Daisy lost her balance, twisted her ankle, and cried out in pain, about to slide down the muddy path. Su Yue suddenly pulled her back to his side. Daisy lifted her sprained ankle, too painful to put it on the ground. Su Yue glanced at her, gritted his teeth, and scooped her up in his arms.
Immediately, he frowned, his face turning bright red: "Damn... Daisy, how much do you weigh?"
Daisy stared at the constantly sliding mud and rocks around her, her heart pounding with fear. She couldn't care less about keeping secrets anymore: "Ninety pounds, 1.63 meters tall." In her nervousness, she even revealed her height.
Su Yue inwardly groaned. He used to squat at the gym with a maximum weight of 50 pounds. If only he had known this would happen, he should have trained harder and reached 90 pounds!
Unfortunately, there was no time for regrets. He carried Daisy and laboriously made his way towards the platform.
Another gust of wind, accompanied by torrential rain, swept in, and mud and rocks cascaded down from both sides.
The closer Su Yue got to the platform, the more difficult it became to move forward. He could only incline slowly, one step at a time.
He walked a mere twenty meters as if it were the despair and hardship of a three-thousand-meter race!
Perhaps Daisy's foot injury was affecting her thinking; she clung tightly to Su Yue's neck and began to stammer incoherently, "I'm sorry, Su Yue, I've dragged you down, I'm so sorry..."
Su Yue, panting, replied, "It's nothing."
Daisy continued rambling: "Su Yue, you're so nice... So annoying! Ah, watch out over there!... Su Yue, you're so nice, it's annoying! I hate this... Su Yue, why are you a boy?"
Su Yue exclaimed "Huh?" He never expected that all his hard work in carrying her would only earn him a "You're so annoying."
She truly deserves to be called a heroine; she has a straightforward personality.
Even in the face of a critical situation, it didn't stop the top student Su Yue from analyzing her words while dodging the mud and rocks: "You said in the second year of junior high that you liked girls, that you were a lesbian?"
Since she's a yuri (lesbian) and only likes girls, then...
"You hate me because I'm a boy?" Su Yue smiled bitterly. Gender is something he's born with; it's not something he can choose.
“No,” Daisy protested, “actually… I don’t dislike it…”
Su Yue was confused: "Then what exactly do you mean?"
Daisy hugged him tightly, and after a long while, she whispered, "...I like it..."
Finally, he stepped onto the small stone platform, less than two square meters in size. Just two more steps and he could jump into the safe zone!
Su Yue was nearing his physical limit; his arms, waist, and legs were all sore and trembling from overexertion. He stood on the small platform, panting heavily.
Just then, another gust of wind swept in, carrying many times more mud and rocks than before!
Su Yue was startled. He gritted his teeth, grabbed Daisy, and leaped over the wall—he had to jump over; it was a matter of life and death if he missed!
But he overestimated himself.
Normally, he could easily jump three meters in the standing long jump. But now, carrying Daisy who weighed ninety pounds, he was exhausted and couldn't even jump two meters!
The spot where I landed was only five centimeters away from the safety line!
My foot slipped, and I completely lost my balance.
The two screamed in unison and slid rapidly down the mountainside through a crevice.
They quickly crashed into a protrusion, the force of which propelled them both into the air, sending them hurtling straight down into the turbid, surging vortex below!
"Aaaaaaahh ...
The two huddled together, their cries filled with anguish.
Su Yue caught a glimpse of the terrifying vortex and thought in despair: I escaped the rats and climbed onto the roof, but in the end, I'll end up like those two beavers...
Suddenly, my vision blurred, and my body crashed into something soft and cushion-like, before landing in a firm embrace.
He saw an incredibly familiar face—it was Noah?! The Noah he had longed for day and night?!
Noah held a glowing, cushioning cloud in his other hand, gently enveloping Daisy within it. He then released the cloud and settled Daisy in the seat beside him.
Su Yue then noticed that they were standing on a white vehicle with a unique shape, resembling both a boat and a small aircraft.
Noah held him in one arm for a long time before finally letting go, seemingly reluctantly.
Su Yue's ears burned slightly. He noticed that Noah's gaze towards him was more intense than ever before.
Could it be... that he's thinking of me too? Su Yue couldn't help but indulge in wishful thinking for a second.
Daisy, still shaken, looked at Noah curiously: "Who are you?"
Noah smiled slightly, his gaze sweeping over the two of them. When it lingered on Su Yue, the heat was so intense that Su Yue's heart almost raced.
“Hello, let me formally introduce myself,” he said in a steady voice, carrying a reassuring strength. “My surname is Ke, and my given name is Noah.”
