Chapter 19
Back at the stone house, Noah finished informing Matt and started working.
He carefully examined the predicted trajectory of the asteroid entering the atmosphere, selected the optimal detonation point, analyzed image data, marked the cutting line and explosion location, and then searched the arsenal, retrieving a spacecraft capable of carrying a proton cannon.
His expression was focused, and a rare glint of gold occasionally flashed in his eyes—a characteristic of Sentinels when they used their powers.
Fifteen minutes later, the plan was finalized.
Noah sat in front of the main control panel, his golden eyes fixed on the large screen. He connected his consciousness to the system and remotely activated the crystal weapon arsenal somewhere in the Alps.
An oval-shaped aircraft was deployed. It was three meters in diameter, with a black coating that gleamed with a cold metallic luster. On each side was a flat, long wing, seemingly decorative, but actually two medium-powered proton cannons—capable of generating extremely high temperatures and energy upon explosion, with a strong ability to dissolve metals, and minimal pollution to the environment and living organisms, making it ideal for blasting meteorites or mountains.
The aircraft hovered in mid-air, its engines silent.
Everything is ready.
One hour and thirty-seven minutes later, the asteroid streaked across the sky with a fiery tail and reached the predetermined detonation point.
That was 23 kilometers above the Earth's surface, with white clouds drifting all around.
At low altitude, a black aircraft soared through the clouds, hurtling head-on toward the meteorite at a speed of ten kilometers per second.
The underground level of the stone house had automatically sealed off. Noah, human and machine in one, was completely focused, his golden eyes gleaming, his consciousness attached to the aircraft. Wisps of black mist quietly seeped from his body.
The wolf king curled up in the corner, motionless. Sensing its master's focus and tension, it remained as still as a statue.
High in the sky, the spacecraft is about to collide with the meteorite.
The system suddenly sounded an alarm—the meteorite was spinning extremely fast, its surface covered with flames from friction and splashing lava debris, making the explosion point that Noah had previously marked indistinct.
The aircraft could not pinpoint its location and sounded an emergency warning!
On the control panel, Noah clicked his tongue, his golden eyes suddenly sharpening.
Just moments before the collision, the spacecraft suddenly veered and decelerated, narrowly missing the meteorite! It then came to an abrupt stop, made a 180-degree turn, and instantly accelerated to 30 kilometers per second, catching up with the meteorite again and running alongside it.
Beside it, a meteorite, enveloped in intense heat and flames, spun wildly.
The preset cutting lines and explosion points flickered and distorted like snowflakes on the big screen, and the computer program could no longer lock them.
The system continuously beeps a warning: Computational overload, computational overload...
Noah had no choice but to use the superpowers he possessed on the aircraft to "see".
Within that rapidly churning fireball, the point of explosion flickered erratically, like a mischievous child, so random it was infuriating.
Perhaps his abilities have truly deteriorated. After decades of slacking off, his superpowers have been idle for a long time, and it's inevitable that he'll become rusty when he suddenly uses them. In addition, the sluggishness brought by the black mist—which he doesn't usually notice, is extremely cumbersome now that every second counts.
But he must see it clearly!
Noah gritted his teeth and unleashed his full power.
His golden eyes suddenly brightened, like the sun bursting forth, and more energy was injected into the flight system, while black mist surged and rose around him.
The next second, he pushed his superpower to an unprecedented extreme, controlling the spacecraft to accelerate to the limit of 40 kilometers per second, and then pierced through the middle of the asteroid at a 60-degree angle!
The spacecraft was moving too fast; the meteorite, split in two, didn't even have time to disperse before the proton cannons on both sides aimed at the pre-set blast point and struck it with millimeter-level precision.
"boom--!!"
The asteroid exploded violently high in the atmosphere, transforming into a second blazing sun. The blinding white light lasted for several minutes, tracing a dazzling arc across the sky.
All the fragments vaporized in the high temperature, and none fell.
The shockwave reached a resort below, shattering some windows. The residents, belatedly realizing what was happening, looked up at the sky and exchanged bewildered glances.
"Just now...did a shooting star pass by?"
No houses collapsed and no one was injured.
Matt, the manager who had been secretly observing, was dumbfounded. Afterwards, he repeatedly reviewed the video of the aircraft penetrating and detonating, and felt that it was a precise artistic performance.
Honestly, he could never have controlled a meteorite spinning at such a high speed.
"As expected of Manager Number 2," he thought.
What Matt didn't know was that Noah's detonation was not easy; he had overdrawn his powers.
He disconnected from the network as soon as he finished setting up the aircraft to return to home automatically.
Then, consciousness sank into darkness.
As dusk fell, the stone house reached its second floor.
Su Yue glanced at the clock: a little past six. Noah usually called him for dinner at five o'clock sharp. After dinner, he would often take him for a walk—the Wolf King would lead the way, Da Bao would bring up the rear, and the group would wander around the mountains and fields until sunset.
With Noah, Wolf King, and Da Bao around, this survival expert with a negative score never worries about getting lost. Three positives and one negative, the result is always positive, so he's perfectly safe.
Oh……
Su Yue stared blankly at the ceiling.
He wasn't hungry, just... a little sad.
The room had been cleaned. He came with nothing but his injuries. He was still wearing borrowed clothes, and he felt a little reluctant to part with them—as if the fabric carried the scent of its former owner, and the longer he wore them, the more at ease he felt.
His gaze fell on his T-shirt and jeans on the pillow. He hesitated for a moment, then decided to change them tomorrow morning.
Thinking about this made me even sadder.
How could he be so shameless? The other person couldn't wait to kick him out, but he wouldn't even part with a piece of clothing.
Meow!
Suddenly, a mournful howl rang out, and the wolf king rushed into the room, grabbed his trouser leg, and dragged him out the door.
The force was so great that Su Yue staggered and had to lean against the wall to steady herself: "Don't rush, I'll go with you!"
The wolf king loosened its grip somewhat, but continued to howl, its expression anxious.
Su Yue was stunned: "Noah, something happened to you?!"
The wolf king nodded, gazing at him with his large, watery eyes.
Su Yue turned and rushed out of the room, sprinting down the stairs like a hundred-meter dash. The wolf king paused for half a second, then swung its tail to catch up, a hint of relief showing amidst its anxiety.
