Nan Qu withdrew a thousand yuan and then took Nan Xing to a restaurant. They also took advantage of the restaurant's electricity to charge their phones.
Nan Qu wasn't one to suffer in silence, nor could she bring herself to buy a bowl of noodles and leave her child to drink only the broth. Both of them were exhausted after a long day; she felt she could eat a whole cow, and just drinking broth wouldn't be enough.
So Nanqu readily ordered two bowls of noodles, one large and one small. Not only that, she also added an egg to the noodles, and she even bought a pancake to eat before she was finally satisfied.
Now that she has this money, the first thing Nanqu thinks of is to fix the circuit.
For someone like her, she could call the power company, and they would send someone down to repair it, but that would be much slower. If she wanted something faster, she should just find a private repair company.
Nanqu remembers that there are actually quite a few shops in town, but she doesn't know if there are any that can repair electrical circuits.
"Son, the power went out. After dinner, let's go to the street and see if there's anyone who can fix it. We can replace all the wiring in our house."
Nanxing had been starving all day, and now that she finally had something to eat, she was practically burying her head in it. When she heard Nanqu's words, Nanxing's first reaction was, "Mom, do we have money?"
Nan Qu couldn't help but laugh at the little guy's precocious appearance: "Don't worry, your Aunt Xiao lent Mom 30,000 yuan. We'll get the house sorted out first, then Mom will send you to kindergarten, and then I'll start earning money to pay her back."
Nanxing nodded upon hearing this: "Okay."
After finishing their meal, the two left the noodle shop and walked along the street. Because it was near the high-speed rail station, there was a lot of traffic. Nanqu and the others didn't cross the road, but walked on the sidewalk.
To Nan Qu's surprise, instead of seeing a circuit repair shop, she first saw a house renovation company.
Nan Qu thought for a moment and then led Nan Xing inside.
Nanqu opened the glass door and saw a woman in her forties sitting in front of a counter, looking at her phone. The shelves were stocked with various furniture samples; presumably, she was selling these items while helping with the renovations.
Hearing the door open, the woman looked up and instinctively said, "Come in, come in and see if there's anything you need."
Despite saying that, the woman's eyes never left her phone.
Nan Qu knew how appealing mobile phones were these days, and couldn't help but chuckle: "Hello, excuse me, can you fix a leaky roof in my house?"
Upon hearing this, the woman tapped her phone before looking up at Shang Qu: "What house is leaking? How bad is the leak?"
Nan Qu asked, "A single-story house. How much would it cost to subsidize all four rooms?"
The woman thought for a moment and said, "Well, where is the house you need to replace? My husband will be back soon, and I'll have him go take a look. I'll give you an estimate then."
Nan Qu nodded upon hearing this: "Sure, my house is right behind Xiao Qiao's noodle shop. Just around the corner."
The woman suddenly realized, "You're Xiao Qu from Uncle Nan's family? Oh dear, you don't even recognize your Aunt Ma? I heard you came back a few days ago. Didn't I hear you got married? Why are you renovating your house all of a sudden?"
Nan Qu smiled awkwardly: "Hello Aunt Ma, I'm divorced, I'm not leaving."
Upon hearing this, Aunt Ma immediately stopped talking: "Hey, you wait, your uncle will be back soon. Then you can have him go and take a look at you."
Nan Qu didn't care about the divorce, since it wasn't her who was getting divorced: "Auntie, is there anyone around here who can fix the electrical wiring? The wiring in my house is old and unusable."
Aunt Ma waved her hand: "Your uncle knows how to do this. Just have him go and take a look, and replace everything that needs replacing."
Upon hearing this, Nan Qu immediately became happy: "In that case, I'll trouble you, Auntie. I'll go home now and wait for my uncle to arrive. You don't need to worry about anything else."
Aunt Ma picked up her phone: "I'll call your uncle right now and try to get there as soon as possible."
After discussing the important things on her mind, Nan Qu left the renovation shop and noticed a supermarket nearby. Realizing that she and Nan Xing didn't even have toiletries, she decided to go to the supermarket and buy some. She also bought Nan Xing a carton of milk to take home.
Children are growing, and these things are essential.
As soon as she got home, Nan Qu heard someone knocking on the door. She thought it must be Aunt Ma's husband, Zhao Yi.
Sure enough, when Nan Qu opened the door, she saw Zhao Yi standing outside.
Seeing Nanqu Zhao Yi smiling brightly, he said, "I just heard from your aunt that you're back. Why didn't you tell me beforehand? I could have come and tidied up the house for you, so it would be more convenient for you to stay here."
Nan Qu smiled and said, "I didn't expect it to turn out like this. Uncle, please come in and take a look. There's a lot of space in my house that needs to be renovated."
Zhao Yi was taken aback by Shang Qu's words for a moment, then stopped talking about the previous topic and went straight to work.
After looking around for a while, Zhao Yi said, "As for the house, I'll bring people over to fix it for you tomorrow. As for the electrical wiring, I'll run two wires for you now, so you can at least have lights at night. The rest will be done for you tomorrow."
Nan Qu agreed immediately: "Okay, then I'll trouble you, Uncle."
Zhao Yi checked the wiring and confirmed that not only was the circuit breaker broken, but it also needed to be replaced. Nan Qu wasn't worried about the cost; safety was the priority. They replaced the circuit breaker and added two more wires. They'd use their own power strip and switch for now, and replace them all tomorrow.
In total, the circuit repair cost 300 yuan.
After seeing Zhao Yi off, Nan Qu went next door and bought two bowls of porridge, two pancakes, and some pickled vegetables. She then ate dinner with Nan Xing.
Because burning firewood is now prohibited in the town, cooking at home requires either electric appliances or gas/natural gas. Nanqu's family doesn't have natural gas, so if they want to cook, they have to contact someone to exchange their gas for coal.
Nanqu didn't consider appliances because the rice cooker she uses is five years old and she doesn't know if it still works. That thing is too dangerous; she'd rather go for something better from the start.
But we can think about that later. After dinner, it was already dark. Let's talk about it tomorrow.
Due to limited resources, Nanqu helped Nanxing wash up quickly before going to bed that night.
The bed was covered with the set she had washed that day; the mattress and quilt had been sun-dried and patted, and smelled strongly of sunshine.
Nanxing happily climbed onto the bed and looked at Nanqu lying next to her: "Mom, I'm so happy. I'm so, so happy. Even happier than at home before!"
Nan Qu raised an eyebrow: "Our old home was much better than this one. How come you prefer this place to that place?"
Nanxing seemed worried that Nanqu wouldn't believe her, so she looked at Nanqu with bright eyes and nodded vigorously: "Yes, I really like it here, and I really like my current mom. This is the first time I've ever slept with my mom!"
In Nan Qu's memory, Nan Xing had always slept alone after birth. There was a nanny at home, but the original owner's mind was full of that CEO, and she neglected the child.
Thinking of this, Nan Qu recalled the maturity in the child's eyes when she first saw him today, a stark contrast to the happy little guy she saw now.
Nanqu realized how important a "mother" is to a child.
"Sweetie, go to sleep. We have a lot to do tomorrow."
