Chapter 70 Train Station

When Nan Qu reappeared in the cowshed, Zheng Jianmin, who had been fast asleep nearby, suddenly opened his eyes.

He didn't notice Nanqu's disappearance, but he did notice her reappearance.

Nan Qu knew Zheng Jianmin was wary, but she didn't expect that even though she was so careful, he still found out.

"Dad, I need to go to the toilet."

Zheng Jianmin's guard suddenly relaxed: "Okay, Dad will take you."

Returning from outside, Nanqu laboriously climbed onto the cart by the moonlight.

I've complained to myself more than once about how this body is only two years old.

Zheng Jianmin felt a pang of sadness once again: "Yueyue, how about Dad finds you a mother?"

Knowing that Zheng Jianmin was watching, Nanqu couldn't use her martial arts skills. Climbing the cart was already annoying enough. Hearing this, she rolled her eyes at Zheng Jianmin behind his back.

"Are you having romantic thoughts in the middle of the night?"

Zheng Jianmin was stunned, staring at Nan Qu in disbelief: "You..."

Nan Qu turned around: "That's what Uncle Gao and the others were talking about—things like not being able to find a wife, feeling empty, lonely, and cold in the middle of the night."

Uncle Zhao said he was going through puberty. "Dad, are you in heat too? What should we do? Can you try to hold it in? If it really doesn't work, we can go to..."

Before Nan Qu could say anything more, Zheng Jianmin quickly interrupted, "Alright, that's enough. I won't look for your mother anymore! Now go upstairs to sleep!"

He then lifted Nanqu onto the cart.

He cursed the people at the research institute in his mind. They were all shameless old men who didn't even bother to keep their mouths shut. What kind of nonsense had his precious daughter learned?

Nan Qu got on the cart, a smile playing on his lips. He hadn't actually said anything random; they really had. However, they felt they were just children and wouldn't understand.

Nan Qu successfully dispelled Zheng Jianmin's guilt. The night finally returned to calm.

Nan Qu was naturally not sleepy; her mind was still preoccupied with Wu Di'er. According to the timeline, Wu Di'er should still be in Wushan. However, the accent of Hongxing Village sounded like that of the Central Plains region, and considering she had only taken a nap since arriving from the capital, she should be near the capital.

This undoubtedly made Nan Qu feel that seeing Wu Di'er was even more difficult.

We can't just wait until she grows up here, or until Zheng Jianmin dies and no one cares about her, before she runs away, can we? For Wu Dier's sake, give up the chance to save Zheng Jianmin? But the key point is, by then, Wu Dier will most likely be dead, and the truth she wants will probably be long gone.

Or should she confess and tell Zheng Jianmin about it, and ask Zheng Jianmin to take her there?

Despite not being sleepy, Nan Qu's mind was filled with all sorts of random thoughts, and she somehow fell asleep.

The next morning, everyone got busy. Although it wasn't the busy farming season, all the tools and other equipment were there, so Zheng Jianmin woke his daughter up early because they were taking things out of the house to start working.

Watching them act like zombies, doing things as if they were programmed machines, devoid of any passion, Nan Qu knew that the fire in their hearts had been extinguished.

After being busy until about seven o'clock, Nan Qu wasn't really sure what time it was because Zheng Jianmin's watch wasn't on his wrist.

Breakfast is ready at the cowshed.

Nan Qu stared in astonishment at the crystal-clear vegetable porridge made from greens and cornmeal.

She said that the feed for cows is even thicker than this.

Can this stuff fill you up?

Out of curiosity, Nan Qu took a sip of the porridge in her hand.

It tasted somewhat bitter, astringent, and salty. Clearly, the wild vegetable was dandelion. It's inherently bitter, and the coarse salt only amplified the bitterness. The cornmeal was also coarse and scratchy.

These people ate these things with blank expressions.

She thought it best to let Zheng Jianmin suffer such hardship; she didn't intend to.

After swallowing the small mouthful, Nanqu poured everything in her small bowl into Zheng Jianmin's bowl.

Zheng Jianmin opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing.

That day, Nanqu racked her brains but couldn't figure out how to get to Sichuan Province, because it seemed too unrealistic. Unexpectedly, things took a turn for the better that evening.

At night, Zheng Jianmin looked at Nanqu with pity. His daughter hadn't eaten much all day and had relied entirely on the dry food he had brought. This made him even more determined. Although it wasn't good to trouble others like this, at least his daughter wouldn't have to suffer with him.

"Yueyue, how about Daddy takes you to Uncle Wang's hometown to stay for a while tomorrow? Daddy made a mistake and is being reformed here. But you're too young, and it's too hard here; you won't be able to handle it. Daddy will come pick you up after a while, okay?"

Before Nan Qu could speak, Zheng Jianmin said, "Uncle Wang's hometown is very beautiful, with mountains and rivers. You can hear the sound of water even when you're sleeping at night. You'll definitely like it when you go there."

You haven't eaten properly all day. Dad knows you can't eat this much, but this is all we can eat here, nothing else.

Just as Zheng Jianmin was about to say something, Nan Qu spoke up: "Where is his family from?"

Zheng Jianmin was taken aback, thinking that Nan Qu had agreed, and hurriedly said, "In Sichuan Province, in Ba City, not far from here."

Upon hearing that it was Sichuan Province, Nan Qu agreed without hesitation: "Okay!" Although Ba City is far from Wushan Village, one is in the south of Sichuan Province and the other in the north.

However, she was too eager to find Wu Dier and was too timid and hesitant in front of Zheng Jianmin. This was actually better.

At worst, she can come back to him after she has seen Wu Di'er.

The hope is that Zheng Jianmin has strong enough resilience to accept the fact that his daughter is lost again.

"I'm willing to go, but I want my little black dog to stay!"
