Chapter 144 Zhou Wentong Slays the Tatar Khan at White Wolf Slope

Zhou Wentong, with the 20,000 cavalrymen assigned to him by Li Qin, along with the supplies captured from the Tatars and some of his own, finally made his way around from the north.

They are currently rushing south overnight.

After entering Liaodong, he sent people ahead of time to contact several Liaodong cities that had not yet been captured.

They learned that the reinforcements from above were in a standoff with the Tatar army.

He then immediately ordered his troops to launch a night raid, and the scouts finally returned to report:

"General, a Tatar camp has been discovered at the foot of White Wolf Slope ahead."

Upon hearing the news, Zhou Wentong breathed a sigh of relief; they had finally arrived.

At this moment, he turned his head and glanced at the troops behind him. After a continuous march, many of them were exhausted.

Moreover, along the way, due to the continuous march, many people lost contact and became separated from the troops.

The remaining people were also exhausted.

It's the middle of the night now, the time when I'm most sleepy.

In a normal confrontation, he would definitely let them rest and recover their strength first, while also gathering the stragglers who had broken away from the main force.

But now he's launching a surprise attack; what he wants is the element of surprise.

Especially since it was still night, the Tatars' attention was focused on the large army in the south, and they didn't notice them, and the soldiers were all resting.

This was their best chance to launch a surprise attack on their camp from behind.

He then decisively gave the order.

"Stop the torches, put on your armor, and follow me in a surprise attack on the Tatar camp."

After he finished speaking, the soldiers began to help each other put on their armor and then mount their horses.

After extinguishing the torches, led by Zhou Wentong, they headed south and charged toward the nearest Tatar camp.

At night, the Tatar Khan Lingdan Batur, who had already rested, was suddenly awakened by the sound of horses' hooves.

He then immediately stood up and shouted outside:

Where did that sound of horses' hooves come from?

But no one responded to him, and then a chaotic fighting sound came from outside the tent.

"Southern Dynasty cavalry! How did they manage to break in from the north?"

Southern Dynasty cavalry?

Upon hearing this word, Lingdan Batur immediately rushed out and saw a group of armored cavalry charging into his camp from the north.

The camp was immediately thrown into chaos.

"Cavalry from the north? Aren't the Southern Dynasty's troops in the south?"

How did they bypass the defenses of the southern tribes? And how did I manage to position myself in those southern tribes?

As he spoke, he looked at the guards responsible for protecting him that night.

But none of his guards could answer his questions.

He then turned back to his main tent, intending to retrieve some important items belonging to the Khan before leaving.

But as soon as he entered the tent, he heard sounds of fighting outside.

Several cavalrymen then rode directly into his tent.

Zhou Wentong rushed in and immediately spotted the unarmored Ling Danbatuer inside. Before he could react, Zhou Wentong pierced him to the ground with a spear.

His remaining guards tried to resist, but were killed by the remaining Jurchen and Liaodong cavalry who rushed in.

After dismounting, Zhou Wentong beheaded Lingdan Batur.

He noticed it the moment he stormed into the Tatar camp; this tent was the largest and most luxurious in the entire camp, and he was definitely the chief of this Tatar tribe.

After beheading him, Zhou Wentong wanted to tie his head to a spear to demoralize the Tatar army.

But through the moonlight, he suddenly spotted the Tatar Khan's signature spear.

He then took it and looked at the spear. Sure enough, it was exactly the same as the spear of the Tatar Khan.

Could he be the Great Khan of the Tatars?

Never mind, there's no time. Let's use his head to demoralize the Tatars first.

Zhou Wentong picked up the spear that represented the Great Khan of the Tatars and tied Lingdan Batur's head to it.

He rushed out of the main tent and, together with the cavalry who were killing and setting fires everywhere, continued to harass the Tatar camp, while carrying the Tatar Khan's spear with the head of Lingdan Batur tied to it.

They shouted that the enemy chieftain was dead.

But then he discovered that the Tatars couldn't understand what he was saying.

Then he instructed the people around him to shout, as long as there were Tatars who could speak their Southern Dynasty language, they would be satisfied.

Just as they began shouting, the entire chaotic Tatar camp was filled with the cry that the Tatar chieftain was dead.

This also reached the Tatars who understood the language of the Southern Dynasties.

Then, speaking in Tatar, he broke down as he fled, saying:

"The Great Khan, the Great Khan is dead."

Countless people who heard the news, including the Tatars who were originally prepared to resist, were shocked to learn of the Great Khan's death.

They also lost their will to resist and began to flee.

Those people from the various tribes stationed in the south were the first to notice the chaos in the Khan's camp.

They immediately sent people to see what was going on.

They then learned that Khan Lingdan Batur's camp had been raided.

With the Great Khan Lingdan Batur killed, his forces were in chaos and had fallen apart.

Inside, there were cavalrymen wearing Southern Dynasty armor everywhere.

"What's going on? Did Li Qin launch a surprise attack on Zero-Dan Batur's camp?"

How did he get there? No troops are allowed to go through our jurisdiction.

Moreover, the people monitoring the Southern Dynasty army did not report back.

And is it true that the Great Khan, Lingdan Batur, is dead?

The chieftains of the various Tatar tribes were utterly shocked upon learning of the death of Lingdan Batur and the subsequent chaos in his army.
