Chapter 16 The Army Arrives at Jinzhou

Several days later, in Jinzhou.

You Chu, the garrison commander of Jinzhou, stood on the city wall of Jinzhou and looked out at the Liao army camp in the distance.

A military camp that could accommodate tens of thousands of people, as well as tens of thousands of warhorses and steeds.

He stood on the city wall and looked out, and it truly stretched as far as the eye could see.

After inspecting the city walls, You Chu returned to his temporary residence below the city.

Since Li Qin's army approached the city, he had been living around the city walls.

They continuously organized people to strengthen defenses and prevent attacks from the Liao army.

After returning to his residence, his wife immediately poured him a cup of tea.

You Chu picked up the teacup with a worried expression and took a small sip.

His gaze wasn't on the teacup at all, but rather fixed on the distant city wall.

After taking a sip of tea, he sighed deeply.

When will the imperial army come to quell the rebellion again?

"My lord, are you still hoping for the imperial army?"

But didn't it say that Li Ze had already fallen for his husband's scheme and led a large army south?

Are there not many bandits left outside our Jinzhou city now?

After putting down the teapot, You Chu's wife looked at You Chu in front of her and said...

Upon hearing his wife's words, You Chu slammed his fist on the table in anger and said:

"I originally had two purposes in luring Li to Ningyuan. The first was to reduce the pressure on Jinzhou."

When I saw that Li Ze had fallen into the trap and led his army to Ningyuan, I immediately ordered someone to light the beacon fires to warn Ningyuan.

But who would have thought that those guys would disobey my orders and light the beacon fires?

We're currently besieged, and we have no idea what the situation is in Ningyuan.

Thinking of this, You Chu couldn't help but sigh again.

"I'm more worried about the situation inside Jinzhou than outside."

"Inside Jinzhou?"

Mrs. You was quite surprised to hear her husband say such a thing.

You Chu nodded and said:

"Yes, inside Jinzhou, the bandit Li is coming with great force. In addition, Li and his son have fought in Liaodong for many years and have a great reputation."

There are many people in Jinzhou City who are filled with fear upon hearing that they are going to fight the traitor Li.

To be honest, when Li's army approached Jinzhou, someone in the main hall mentioned that Li's advance was very aggressive.

Jinzhou is unstoppable. We must feign surrender to preserve our strength and wait for the imperial army to arrive to suppress the rebellion, then we can coordinate an attack from within and without to eliminate the traitor Li.

I don't know what they're thinking. They're not just faking their surrender; they're genuinely preparing to surrender.

In the end, I ended up talking to them for a long time.

They said I was entrusted with the mission of the nation to guard Jinzhou, and I dared not fail the court's high expectations.

Let them think about how many years we've known each other.

Continue to hold Jinzhou and wait for the imperial army, while also seeing if Li Zicheng can occupy Ningyuan and Shanhaiguan, thus completely severing the imperial court's connection with the area outside the pass.

I really tried to reason with her and appeal to her emotions.

I said it directly in the lobby.

Tell them to hold Jinzhou with us. If Li Zicheng fails to capture Ningyuan and Shanhaiguan, he will cut off the imperial court's connection with the area outside the pass.

We await the arrival of the imperial army; then we will all be heroes, and they will surely enjoy wealth and glory.

If Li Zicheng occupies Ningyuan and Shanhaiguan, he will cut off the imperial court's reinforcements to them.

They're kidnapping me, the garrison commander of Jinzhou, to exchange for wealth and power with that traitor Li.

In essence, they don't lose out either way.

That calmed them down, and they joined me in defending the city.

This was my second purpose in persuading Li Ze to go to Ningyuan: to appease those guys inside Jinzhou.

I have been doing everything I can to save Jinzhou and hold out for as long as possible.

I never expected that those guys would actually think that in the future, if Li Zicheng were to capture Jinzhou and hold them accountable, they would be held responsible.

No one dared to offend him.

"I ordered them to light the beacon fires to warn Ningyuan City, but not a single one of them did it."

Thinking of this, You Chu couldn't help but sigh.

Shortly after he sighed, a soldier suddenly walked in and said anxiously:

"General, this is terrible! The enemy soldiers outside have made their move!"

"What?"

Upon hearing this news, You Chu immediately stood up from her seat.

He glanced at his wife one last time, and she nodded to him, indicating that he could rest assured about the family. Then he left the house.

You Chu stood on the city wall, watching as Wang Tai and his troops were rapidly assembling in the distant camp.

At this moment, You Chu and the generals defending various locations were all standing on the city wall, their faces tense.

Zhang Qianyan, a centurion standing next to You Chu, began to tremble with nervousness, and finally said in a shaky voice:

"Are the enemy soldiers going to attack the city or retreat?"

Just as everyone was tense, another large army appeared on the distant horizon.

As they drew closer, the crowd came to see the flags being flown by the army.

The flag bearing the character "Li" at the highest point proclaims that this army is its master.

Without a doubt, this unit was one of the units under Li Qin's command.

Under his watchful eye, this newly formed army immediately joined forces with Wang Taihe's army outside the city.

Wang Taihe immediately saw that the commander opposite him was Li Xuanshang, a nephew of Li Qin, and the deputy commander was Zhong Lianqian.

Upon seeing Li Xuanshang, Wang Taihe immediately stepped forward and asked:

"Where are General Li, Deputy General Zhong, and Deputy Commander (Li Wenqi)?"

"General Wang, I am just the vanguard of the army. After receiving the letter from my uncle, my second uncle immediately led the assembled army south."
