Chapter 111 Master and apprentice return home; police report on Zhang Yizhu incident (1/2)

After a week of intensive investigation, it was confirmed that no enemy had remained hidden or escaped. Su Xingran and Doctor Huang were finally able to go home.

Su Xingran and Doctor Huang were driven back to Sujia Village by police officers from the police station. When they returned, it was the time for everyone in the village to go to work in the fields.

"Driver, I'm going home now. You should also go home and get some rest." Su Xingran got out of the car at her doorstep. She felt like she hadn't been home or seen her parents in a long time.

The Su family's front door was locked, but Su Xingran had her own key. Stepping inside, she immediately relaxed.

From the day she met Zhang Yizhu and Sato until just before stepping into her home, Su Xingran's heart was taut with tension, worry, vigilance, discomfort, and exhaustion.

Su Xingran's distress stemmed from the fact that she had shot and killed someone, someone who deserved to die. As a spirit tasked with this mission, Su Xingran was a tool spirit with blood on her hands. However, at thirteen or fourteen years old, Su Xingran was a pure and kind girl.

Fortunately, Su Xingran adjusted her mindset. Even at thirteen, Su Xingran killed someone to save a life—a man who was an enemy of the Chinese people. She did right by herself, her country, and her people.

Su Xingran checked the time; her parents would be able to finish work in about an hour. She went into the kitchen, gathered the ingredients, and began preparing lunch.

When Mr. and Mrs. Su returned home from working in the fields, their eyes lit up as they reached their front door. Mrs. Su pushed open the door and rushed inside.

Su's mother rushed into the house and saw Su Xingran sitting on a stool reading a book. "Ranran, you're back! Quickly, let your mother see if you've lost weight."

"You've lost weight. Ranran, have you been working very hard? How did you lose so much weight? Are you injured?" Su's mother's eyes reddened. Su Xingran, who had finally gained some weight, now had a pointed chin.

"Huilan, slow down! You're running too fast! Ranran's back, right?" Su's father, who followed behind, saw his daughter standing in front of his wife. His eyes also reddened; his daughter had finally returned.

"Father, Mother, I'm back. I'm sorry for making you worry again." Su Xingran knew what her parents were afraid of, and all she could do was return safely.

"It's alright, it's alright, as long as you come back safe and sound. That way, your parents can rest assured." Father Su, a grown man, couldn't bring himself to say anything sentimental.

"Mom and Dad, I've cooked the food. Let's eat first. You must be hungry after working all morning." Su Xingran had already prepared the food and was keeping it warm in a pot in the kitchen.

"Okay, let's eat first. Your father and I will go and bring it out." From the moment she saw her daughter, Su's mother noticed that her eyes were bloodshot.

Su Xingran cooked a meal: stir-fried cured pork with chili peppers, stir-fried greens, and a pot of chicken soup. The family of three, separated for more than a week, could finally have a reunion meal.

At the dinner table, Su's parents put all the chicken legs on Su Xingran's plate. "Mom and Dad, you eat them, I don't want any." Su Xingran didn't want to be given both legs of the chicken.

"Eat up, Ranran. Look how thin you've gotten. There's so much meat in the pot, your parents can eat any of it. Eat more to nourish yourself," Su's mother nagged, wishing Ranran would finish the whole pot of chicken soup.

Unable to resist her parents' insistence, Su Xingran had no choice but to devour the two chicken legs. After lunch, Su Xingran felt completely stuffed. This was the most satisfying meal she had had in over a week.

"Ranran, go back to your room and rest. Your eyes are bloodshot." Su's mother was worried that her daughter would break out from staying up so late.

The family of three had an unspoken understanding: Mr. and Mrs. Su wouldn't ask what Su Xingran had been doing. Su Xingran knew she couldn't say; in a few days, the police might come to the village to report it.
