Chapter 143 Three members of the Su family died on the same day (2/2)

Doctor Huang was unaware of what had happened. The person who came to him only told him that something had happened to the Su family and asked him to come and take a look. Doctor Huang went to Old Lady Su, took her pulse, and looked into her eyes.

After examining Old Lady Su, Doctor Huang went to take Su Wenli's pulse. "Both are dead. The younger one has been dead for a long time. The older one just passed away. Prepare for her funeral!"

A sudden chorus of weeping erupted from the Su family home. Old Man Su, inside the house, heard the commotion in the yard. He struggled frantically, overcome with emotion. His granddaughter was dead, his wife was dead too. The more agitated he became, the more distressed he felt, his face turning crimson. Suddenly, however, he stopped struggling.

Outside, the Su family members were all kneeling on the ground weeping, and no one noticed the old man's condition. The old man's mouth was wide open, his eyes were open, and he lay motionless on the bed.

In the instant his breath stopped, the image of his father flashed through Old Su's mind. He wondered if it was retribution, if it was divine punishment for him and his wife.

The abandoned son is doing better and better, and the granddaughter he looked down on got into university and became the top scholar in the imperial examination, bringing glory to the family. But all of this has nothing to do with their family; they have severed ties with them.

When Su Wenye went to check on Old Man Su that evening, he found him lying motionless on the bed, eyes wide open and mouth agape. Su Wenye nudged Old Man Su, but there was no response. He touched the back of Old Man Su's hand; it was ice-cold.

Su Wenye stumbled out of the room, crying, "Dad, Grandpa is dead."

Upon hearing Su Wenye's words, Boss Su, who was guarding the courtyard, suddenly stood up, his vision blurred, and he was so dizzy he almost lost his balance. After regaining his footing, he immediately ran into the room.

Three people died in the Su family in one day. One committed a crime that led to his own death, and two others couldn't accept the blow. The whole Su family village was in an uproar.

Su Xingran's graduation banquet on the second day had to be canceled and postponed. When the Su family learned that Old Man Su and Old Woman Su had also died, they weren't particularly affected. Perhaps this was retribution; though late, it still came.

Su Wenli didn't hold funerals when she was young, but Su Laotou and Su Laopo would normally have funerals. The village chief went to the Su family to talk to Su's father about the graduation banquet tomorrow, and casually mentioned the Su family's affairs.

Father Su, Mother Su, and Su Xingran had already discussed it, and now every move the family made was attracting attention. Although the family had severed ties with the old Su family, and now that both Old Man Su and Old Woman Su were dead, Father Su was still their son.

Whether it was for show or out of gratitude for being born, Su's father had to make a statement. He took out three hundred yuan and handed it to the village chief.

“Village chief, I’m giving you the money in exchange for your help with their funeral arrangements. On the day of the funeral, I will bring Huilan and Xingran to offer incense. As for keeping vigil, that’s none of my business; our two families have severed ties. By paying for their funeral, I’m repaying the debt of gratitude they owe me for their kindness in life.”

“My grandparents wouldn’t want to see their son buried with only a tattered mat wrapped in a straw mat. Village chief, you and the brigade leader should find someone to help them find the coffin they kept before they died and bring it up the mountain for a proper burial!”

Nowadays, funerals can't be held in a grand manner. We can only ask villagers to help dig a pit, find people to help carry the coffin up the mountain, put it in the pit, and cover it with soil to make a small mound.

Invite those who helped with the funeral arrangements and have a meal with the relatives in the village, and the funeral will be considered complete.

Throughout the entire conversation, Su's father didn't mention Su Wenli once. He hated this woman who killed his daughter in his past life and who was now trying to harm his daughter again. He could only say "retribution" about Su Wenli's death.
