Chapter 208 Wei Xiongwei Under Investigation (2/2)

There was an old man with a rather straightforward temper, a retired soldier like Grandpa Wei, known as Old Han. He looked at Grandpa Wei and sighed, saying, "Old Wei, ask yourself honestly, if your granddaughter were harmed, would you be willing to let the murderer go? Your Wei Zilin has been a troublemaker since he was a child, and you've smoothed things over countless times, both openly and secretly."

Before Old Han could finish speaking, someone walked in. It was the son of another veteran. He greeted everyone present and then called his father out.

The old soldier returned to the house and looked at Old Master Wei, saying, "Old Wei, you're not being fair! Why don't you say whose family your grandson injured? Your Wei Zilin injured the Gu family's new daughter-in-law, and another person was Zhenhua's apprentice, who escaped unharmed."

“Old Wei, I can’t help you with this. You’re going to drag all of us old folks down with you! As your buddy, I advise you to leave this unfilial son alone, or your Wei family and your reputation will be ruined.”

Upon hearing this, the old soldier in the room left without saying a word, simply greeting him. These people didn't know when they'd be going to report to the King of Hell, and they wouldn't risk their own or their descendants' lives for someone else's disobedient grandson.

After Old Master Wei's attempt to sway Huang Taihe failed, his youngest son, Wei Xiongwei, sought Huang Taihe's help to intercede on his behalf. Inside Huang Taihe's office, Wei Xiongwei sat in a chair; he was older than Huang Taihe but held a lower position.

Wei Xiongwei said to Huang Taihe, "Commander Huang, could you please put in a good word for the Gu family and ask them to forgive Zilin this time? I promise he will never dare to do it again. If it happens again, I will personally take action."

Huang Taihe looked at Wei Xiongwei and sighed inwardly. This man was capable, but he just couldn't see things clearly. He had ruined himself for the sake of an immature nephew. Huang Taihe and the other soldiers knew why Wei Xiongwei doted on Wei Zilin so much.

Wei Xiongwei was injured during a mission when he was young, leaving him childless. Wei Xiongjie, not wanting to burden anyone, never married. Wei Xiongjie resembled his grandfather, while Wei Zilin resembled both his grandfather and uncle. Despite having no children, Wei Xiongwei doted on Wei Zilin, thus fulfilling his own regret.

Huang Taihe recalled that the commander had given him a file yesterday, detailing all of Wei Zilin's misdeeds over the years. Any one of these acts would be enough to land Wei Zilin in jail or execute him. Wei Xiongwei had been secretly helping to destroy evidence and evade legal punishment for Wei Zilin.

By abusing his power to commit the crime of harboring a criminal who knowingly violated the law, Wei Xiongwei's position as division commander has come to an end. He is now facing investigation by the military's disciplinary committee and may even be court-martialed.

Wei Xiongwei looked at Huang Taihe, who remained silent and stared at him. Wei Xiongwei had a bad feeling; he sensed that something bad was about to happen.

There was a knock on Huang Taihe's office door. Huang Taihe glanced at Wei Xiongwei and said, "Come in." The door opened and three men in military uniforms walked in.

Three soldiers saluted Huang Taihe, and Huang Taihe returned the salute. The leading soldier walked up to Wei Xiongwei and saluted, "Commander Wei, I'm from the Discipline Inspection Commission. We've received reports that you've repeatedly abused your power to protect your family members and exonerate them. Please come with us."

Wei Xiongwei felt as if he'd been struck by lightning; the deafening roar made him unable to hear anything. He didn't know how he numbly followed the disciplinary committee members out. Wei Xiongwei knew everything was over; he wondered to himself if it was worth it to end up like this for a nephew.
