On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Su Xingran didn't have the habit of sleeping in. When she got up, Su Guomin and Zeng Huilan were already up. Seeing that Su Xingran was up, Zeng Huilan prepared a basin of hot water for her to brush her teeth and wash her face.
After brushing her teeth and washing her face, Su Xingran returned to her room just as Zeng Huilan had put breakfast on the table. "Ranran, Happy New Year! Come and have breakfast. There are some dumplings and steamed buns left over from last night. Your dad and I will eat the dumplings and steamed buns. Mom cooked you a bowl of noodles, you can have the noodles."
Su Xingran also said to her parents, "Happy New Year, Dad and Mom!" She walked over to the table, sat down, and started eating noodles.
After breakfast, Zeng Huilan took out two red envelopes and gave them to Su Xingran. "Here, these are your New Year's red envelopes from your parents. These are the gifts you packed last night for visiting relatives today. Check again later to make sure you haven't forgotten anything. Your father said that since you don't need him to deliver them, you must be careful. You should go home early this afternoon; the roads are bad and it will be even harder to walk later."
Su Xingran replied, "Mother, I know. I'll come home as soon as possible. You and Father don't need to worry about me. I'll be careful."
If the road from Sujia Village to town is in good condition, it should take 30 to 40 minutes by bicycle. Even though villagers have cleared the snow to make the road to town easier, the road is still not as good as before. Now, it takes at least an hour to cycle to town.
Su Xingran put most of the things she wanted to take for the New Year's greetings into her spatial storage, leaving only a small portion tied to the back rack of her car. She planned to find a place to take them out when she got to town, otherwise having too many things tied to the back would be too conspicuous.
Su Xingran set off from home at nine o'clock in the morning. The roads were deserted, and she didn't arrive in town until around ten o'clock. She went to Xiao Dingyu's house first. When she got downstairs, she used a bag tied to the back rack of her car to take out the New Year's gifts she wanted to give as a greeting from her spatial storage.
Su Xingran had been to the Xiao family before and knew they were on the second floor. Carrying her gifts, she went up to the second floor and stopped at the Xiao family's door to knock. Xiao Yu opened the door, and his eyes widened slightly when he saw Su Xingran.
Xiao Yu was surprised to see Su Xingran. He quickly greeted her, "Sister Xingran, Happy New Year! Please come in and have a seat."
Su Xingran noticed that Xiao Yu had grown much taller than the last time she saw him. She had a good impression of the boy; he was polite and well-mannered.
Su Xingran smiled slightly, "Xiaoyu, Happy New Year! Are Uncle Dingyu and Aunt Dingyu home?"
Xiao Yu stepped aside to let Su Xingran into the house, without closing the door. "Sister Xingran, my parents are home," Xiao Yu called out to the house. "Father, Mother, Sister Xingran is here."
Xiao Dingyu and Li Mei, who were discussing matters in their room, heard their son calling from the living room outside. They quickly came out of their room and were pleasantly surprised to see Su Xingran and the other woman.
Su Xingran placed the gifts on the table and saw Xiao Dingyu and his wife come out. She greeted them, "Uncle Dingyu, Aunt Dingyu, Happy New Year! I've come to wish you a Happy New Year."
Li Mei quickly walked up to Su Xingran and took her hand. "Xingran, Happy New Year! It's so cold outside, are you cold? Sit down and rest." Then she said to Xiao Yu, "Xiao Yu, quickly pour your sister Xingran a glass of warm water."
Xiao Yu, who was already pouring water, quickly replied, "Mom, I'm pouring it now, it'll be ready soon." Xiao Yu handed the water cup to Su Xingran with both hands, saying, "Sister Xingran, be careful the water is hot."
Su Xingran took the water and said, "Thank you, Xiaoyu." Then she said to Li Mei, who was sitting next to her, "Auntie, I'm not cold. I'm dressed quite warmly."
