Before the Lunar New Year, Su Guomin and Zeng Huilan exchanged some meat coupons. They also had their own meat coupons, as well as the meat coupons that Su Xingran had asked Xiao Dingyu to bring back. They went to the town's supply and marketing cooperative to buy meat and cured it into bacon.
Now, the entire batch of cured meat is being taken to Beijing for Su Xingran, as well as to the Huang and Gu families. They originally made the cured meat specifically for Su Xingran's trip to Beijing. They didn't have much else to bring, so the cured meat was the only option. Huang Tai'an used connections to buy the tickets; all three were sleeper tickets, but they weren't consecutive. Su Xingran and Guan Xiaoyan were together so they could look after each other, while Huang Tai'an was alone.
The train smelled unpleasant, and Su Xingran couldn't even eat. She ate the steamed buns she had brought from home and drank some warm water to tide her over. Zeng Huilan had made a lot of steamed buns, which she packed into three bags. Before boarding the train, Su Xingran shared them with Huang Tai'an and his wife.
After a train journey of dozens of hours, they finally arrived in Beijing. The person who came to pick them up was none other than Duan Yuming. Su Xingran immediately greeted him upon seeing him, "Uncle Duan, Happy New Year! You're back!"

Huang Zhenhua sat in the living room waiting, while his mother busied herself in the kitchen. Huang Zhenhua glanced at his watch and calculated that they should have arrived in Beijing by now.
About half an hour later, there was a knock on the door. Huang Zhenhua heard the noise and quickly went to open it. When the door opened, Huang Zhenhua saw Su Xingran standing in the doorway carrying a backpack.
