Chapter 237 The End of the War (2/2)

Huang Zhenhua felt a little nervous watching Huang Taihe rushing around. He was afraid he would hear bad news; there was currently no news about Su Xingran personally.

Seeing his father's expression, Huang Taihe quickly told him, "Dad, there's news. The local troops Xingran went to have sent word that all the doctors on the list dispatched from Beijing have been safely evacuated back into the country. They are now waiting for the troops to arrange their return journey, and the return time is yet to be confirmed. Someone will inform me of their return time later."

Upon hearing the news, Huang Zhenhua finally smiled. "Good, it's good that you've been safely evacuated. You can go home whenever you want, as long as you return safely."

Only Huang Zhenhua knew how worried he was about hearing bad news. If something happened to Xingran, Huang Zhenhua didn't know how he would tell Su Guomin and his wife. He knew that the couple had already lost their daughter once, and losing her again after regaining her would be incredibly painful.

Fortunately, everything went smoothly. The battle was won, and Xingran was safe and sound. Huang Zhenhua was overjoyed. He said to Huang Taihe, "Let's have a drink later to celebrate Xingran's safe return to China."

Huang Taihe wanted to say that he had driven there and would be going back soon, and if he drank, he wouldn't be able to go back. But seeing his father's happy look, Huang Taihe couldn't refuse. Okay, this was indeed something worth celebrating. He could just sleep here tonight if he drank. Anyway, he had already told his wife that he was going home to talk to his father.

The father and son, Huang Zhenhua, had drunk too much. He kept talking to Huang Taihe, "Taihe, do you know why your father took Xingran as his apprentice?"

Huang Tai and he naturally didn't know, but he also wanted to know why his father had taken Xing Ran as his apprentice. "Father, I don't know. Please tell me why you took Xing Ran as your apprentice?"

Huang Zhenhua smiled and said, "Xingran and your mother are the same kind of people. After your mother gave birth to you, she wanted a daughter. Later, she had a second child, but it was a boy, just like you. Qingxiao was a little disappointed, but she felt that a boy was fine too, since they were all her children."

"Qingxiao told me that it would be wonderful if you brothers could give her a granddaughter in the future. She hopes that her granddaughter can be like her, doing what she likes and walking her own path."

Huang Zhenhua hiccuped and continued, "In Xingran, I saw the kind of granddaughter Qingxiao wanted, and I also saw that Xingran and Qingxiao were the same kind of people. At first, I wanted to adopt Xingran as my granddaughter, but her biological grandfather is still alive."

"Later I thought about it and decided that I could take her as my apprentice and teach her medicine. On the very night I made this decision, I dreamed of Qingxiao. In the dream, she told me that she was very satisfied with this girl and asked me to teach Xingran well and make up for her role as his wife."

“Xingran is Qingxiao’s recognized disciple. Perhaps it was Qingxiao who made all of this possible. Father thought countless times about not living and going to find Qingxiao. Anyway, you brothers are all married with children. It was Xingran who made Father give up that idea. I have to risk my old life to live and take good care of the disciple that Qingxiao chose.”

In the end, Huang Zhenhua collapsed onto the table, and Huang Taihe carried him back to his room. Huang Taihe looked at the family photo hanging in the room. How happy the family of four looked in the photo, the woman's smile so gentle.

Huang Taihe understood his father's meaning; he couldn't let go of his mother, and he had always wanted to go with her. It was Xingran who saved him; his father saw in Xingran the image his mother desired. Perhaps Xingran truly was the apprentice his mother had chosen for him, and his mother was afraid he might do something rash and leave with her. Huang Taihe sighed softly and left the room.
