After resting at home for a few days, Su Xingran was in much better condition than when she first returned. On Monday, Su Xingran officially returned to work at the hospital, walking into the hospital as usual.
As soon as Su Xingran stepped into the outpatient building, applause erupted from inside. The hospital director, other hospital leaders, and Shen Qiu stood at the front, flanked by medical staff.
The hospital director announced loudly, "A warm welcome to our hospital's doctor, Comrade Su Xingran, on her glorious and safe return."
Su Xingran felt completely lost, unsure whether to step inside or turn and run. It was just as embarrassing and awkward as the day she received her acceptance letter.
Fortunately, Su Xingran wasn't one to show her emotions outwardly. Even so, her ears only turned slightly red, and her expression remained the same as usual. Su Xingran forced herself to say "Thank you" to everyone.
Hospitals are places for treating and saving lives, so the welcoming ceremony ended quickly. All staff members returned to their posts and performed their duties.
Su Xingran followed Shen Qiu into the consultation room and looked at Shen Qiu's serious face. Su Xingran first called out, "Director Shen," and seeing that Shen Qiu did not speak, Su Xingran called out again, "Aunt Shen, I'm back."
Shen Qiu reached out and tapped Su Xingran's forehead in an annoyed tone. "Why did you act so impulsively, you're just a kid! You secretly applied and signed up, and then you secretly set off without telling me. If I hadn't realized something was wrong and gone to the dean, the whole hospital would probably know about this, and I would still be in the dark."
Su Xingran stood there silently, listening to whatever Shen Qiu said. Since she was in the wrong anyway, she figured she might as well just obediently listen to the scolding.
After Shen Qiu finished speaking, she looked at Su Xingran, who was standing obediently, and she really wanted to cover her eyes. When she first met Su Xingran, she thought this child was a gentle and weak one. But it turned out that this child was very bold. It was fortunate that she was really a good child who excelled in everything. If she were a naughty and disobedient child, her parents would probably be furious.
Shen Qiu wasn't really blaming Su Xingran; she just felt that the child had kept it a secret from everyone. If it weren't for the dean seeing her off, she would have truly been all alone, carrying her luggage to an unknown and dangerous battlefield. Shen Qiu had studied abroad and received a Western education.
Shen Qiu never believed that girls should be locked up at home, but rather should have the courage to take the first step out of their shackles. Gu Qingxiao was one of the independent and strong women in China that Shen Qiu had met and known. Now, Gu Qingxiao's descendants are following in her footsteps, which makes Shen Qiu very gratified.
Shen Qiu walked up to Su Xingran and gave her a hug. "My dear child, if anything happens to you in the future, tell me. People who support you will support you from behind. Don't carry everything alone, and don't let those who care about you have any regrets. Aunt Shen welcomes you back safely."
Su Xingran knew that those who cared about her truly felt sorry for her. Perhaps she had walked a long road alone in the past, so she seemed unable to express everything.
Su Xingran returned to Beijing and resumed her daily routine of going to work and coming home. She received two letters: one from Gu Moli, and the other from Deng Chenhui, whom she had met once.
Su Xingran was used to Gu Moli's letters, but Deng Chenhui's letter puzzled her. Remembering that Deng Chenhui was Uncle Deng's son, Su Xingran still opened the letter to read it after getting home from work.
