Su Xingran didn't mention her dream to anyone, and she couldn't find a single answer. The person in the dream knew she was starting over, and Su Xingran thought she must be tired to have such a dream.
From a place unseen and untouchable by Su Xingran, two voices resounded. One, like a machine's voice, asked, "God, why did you choose Su Xingran in the first place?"
A woman's voice rang out, "Because she is the best choice." After the woman finished speaking, a scene appeared before her eyes.
A little girl was carrying a basket on her back to pick wild vegetables when she met an old man carrying a basket on his back. The little girl offered to help the old man and shared the food she had brought with him. In her childish voice, she said to the old man, "Grandpa, please go home quickly so you don't get too tired. If you need to go up the mountain again, just tell me and I can help you."
The old man patted the little girl's head and said, "Xingran is such a good girl, Grandpa isn't tired. Xingran, you must be careful, there are dangers on the mountain." The old man and the little girl, carrying baskets on their backs, helped each other down the mountain.
The woman smiled as she looked at this, but tears welled up in her eyes. If Su Xingran could hear her, she would recognize the woman's voice—it was the voice of the woman from her dreams.
The day of the awards ceremony arrived, and Huang Ma was even more nervous than Su Xingran herself. Huang Ma had only learned the previous night that Su Xingran was going to the Great Hall of the People to receive an award this morning.
After having breakfast, Su Xingran went back to her room, put on the military uniform the army had given her, and donned her military cap. She then walked out of her room into the living room, where Huang Zhenhua and Huang Taihe were sitting.
They were all relieved to see Su Xingran emerge. Wearing her military uniform, Su Xingran's face looked the same as usual, but her demeanor was vastly different. Normally she possessed a scholarly air, but in uniform she appeared capable and sharp, exuding a commanding presence.
Huang Zhenhua stepped forward and looked at Su Xingran, saying, "Xingran, your elder brother Taihe will take you there. Your master is waiting for you at home. Xingran, don't be nervous. Just remember what your master told you that day."
Su Xingran nodded and said, "Master, I understand. I'll remember what you said. Master, then Brother Taihe and I will be leaving now."
Huang Zhenhua waved his hand and said, "Go on, your master is waiting for you at home. We'll celebrate with you tonight."
Su Xingran followed Huang Taihe to the front gate, where they encountered Huang's mother returning from grocery shopping. Su Xingran called out, "Huang's mother!" Huang's mother was carrying the groceries she had just bought. She smiled and said, "Xingran, you and Taihe can go now! Zhenhua asked me to buy a lot of groceries; we'll celebrate when you get back tonight."
Once in the car, Huang Taihe looked at Su Xingran sitting in the back seat and said, "Xingran, don't be nervous. I'll take you to the door. Just follow the people attending the awards ceremony inside."
Su Xingran replied with an "okay." Even when she was on a mission, Su Xingran had never attended a national commendation ceremony for meritorious service. She felt somewhat nervous, but she had to suppress it.
Upon arriving at the perimeter of the Great Hall of the People, Huang Taihe dropped Su Xingran off and drove to park the car. Su Xingran went to the registration desk, retrieved her identity verification booklet, and handed it to the staff for verification. After confirming her identity was correct, Su Xingran followed the other attendees into the Great Hall of the People.
Su Xingran entered the Great Hall of the People and asked a staff member where award recipients like herself sat. The staff member led her to her seat, and Su Xingran said "thank you." She only sat down after the staff member left.
