Huang Zhenhua glanced at Su Xingran, knowing this was something he wanted to ask in private. Huang Zhenhua said, "Then you and your master go inside to talk, and let Mo Li stay here and chat with everyone."
Su Xingran followed Huang Zhenhua inside. Huang Zhenhua turned around and asked, "Xingran, is there anything you want to say to your master?"
Su Xingran looked at Huang Zhenhua and said, "Master, I want to see a picture of your wife. Could you please let me see it?"
Huang Zhenhua looked at Su Xingran with suspicion and asked, "Xingran, why do you suddenly want to see your teacher's wife's photo? Is there something wrong?"
Su Xingran took a deep breath and said, "Master, there's something I need to verify, so I must see Master's wife's photo. Once I've seen the photo and found the answer, I'll tell you why."
Seeing the seriousness in Su Xingran's eyes, Huang Zhenhua said nothing more. Instead, he turned and walked towards the room, went back inside, and found Gu Qingxiao's photos. He then took all the photos outside and gave them to Su Xingran.
Su Xingran returned to her old room, where everything was unchanged, the furnishings exactly the same as before her marriage. She sat on the stool in front of the dressing table and flipped through the photo album.
Su Xingran looked through the photos one by one, and finally found a picture of Gu Qingxiao's back at the back of the album. There were photos of her as a girl, as a married woman, during the War of Resistance against Japan, as a mother, in middle age, and finally one of her sitting in a wheelchair.
These figures, each one a matching the one in her dream, confirmed not only the figure in her dream but also something else for Su Xingran. Her ability to start over wasn't a blessing from heaven, but rather something deliberately orchestrated by someone.
It was her master's wife, Gu Qingxiao, who gave her a second chance, which is why she became her master's disciple. She even dreamt of her master's wife and Gu Moli's fate in his previous life. The blessing voice on her wedding night was entirely from her master's wife.
Tears streamed down Su Xingran's face, blurring the images of the people in the photo album, yet remaining vividly etched in her mind. The thought of this complete stranger giving her a second chance made Su Xingran burst into tears.
Huang Zhenhua, who hadn't left, heard Su Xingran crying. His heart tightened; his suspicions had been confirmed. Just as Huang Zhenhua was about to knock on the door, it opened.
Su Xingran came out of the room and saw Huang Zhenhua standing outside. Forgetting all about the distance between men and women, Su Xingran quickly walked to Huang Zhenhua, threw herself into his arms, and burst into tears.
Huang Zhenhua took a step back to steady himself. This was the first time in over a decade that his disciple, Su Xingran, had acted this way. Huang Zhenhua gently patted Su Xingran's back and said, "Xingran, don't cry."
Su Xingran cried and said, "Master...Master, Master...Master's wife, she..." Su Xingran didn't know what to say; her master had no idea.
Unexpectedly, Huang Zhenhua sighed and said, "Xingran, your master knows. Your master knew when you asked him to gather herbs that year, and when you had a nightmare. You were unconscious during the nightmare and kept talking. Your master heard it when he was giving you acupuncture. Your parents also knew that your master had found out. At first, they were very uneasy, but your master told them that he had known all along."
